I'm not saying it wouldn't be awesome. And I guess the trade off is the massive number of pumps it takes to to refill the hard tank/bladder, but still it could make the game unbalanced. That's all I'm sayin.
One more question: Is the tank/valve opening bigger, smaller, or roughly the same size as the airtech 3000? It kinda looks like it's about the same, and if that is the case then how do you account for the lower ranges?

It's pretty much the same dimensions as the AT3K tank. Same valve opening too. The reason why ranges are less than what an overhauled 3K would be, is because I have yet to replace the pump. I can achieve higher pressures with the Hornet pump because it's roughly half as wide as an SM3K pump. So theoretically I can get the same ranges as my AT3K, if I replace the pump. We'll see.

Update time!
I ripped out the stock pump and added a Hornet pump. I also wanted to reinforce the pump handle. The plastic was already starting to get very weak from only a few shots. I also wanted a bigger rear-loading hole, and of course finish the barrels.
Cut down the tank, like so.
Take your Hornet pump, wrap some e-tape around the pump tube until the 3K's trigger rests over it nicely.
I cut down the plastic where the screw port used to be. I also cut down the Hornet pump to fit it in the shell.
Here's what it looks like all glued in. The vinyl tubing coming out the back and goes back into the faux tank. I can still open and close the shell now.
All done.

I noticed quite a bit more range added while doing this. It's now firing 100-110' with Slug darts. It's performing only a little bit under what my AT3K shoots but I have two more shots. I'm going to play around with the trigger a bit more and get a better trigger pull to hopefully release the air faster. These things are definitely on par with the AT3Ks.
The new rear-loading slot makes things a lot easier. I can easily load two darts at a time before advancing the turret. The pump handle is now stronger than ever. It feels a lot more solid than it first did.
I love air guns.
Video Write-up.
