I have put together a list of McMaster-Carr parts number list because I know many of you do not know how to navigate through the search engine because it is very specific. If you have any part numbers that you believe to be useful in Nerf mods or homemades, PM me with the part number and what section you believe it to be useful in. Please do not clutter the thread. Thanks.

95% of this is copy-pasted from the +bow diy thread, 99% total between that and the dartsmithing thread.
Anyway, anyone competent enough to make a custom homemade should be able to find something on Mcmaster-carr.

I wouldn't mind this thread if you had actually put a lot of effort on how to find different types of parts or what's useful when, but this really just seems like Slug did all the work on this one.

I don't need a thread like this. But I also don't see how that could excuse thread-crapping. I thought that sharing information was the point of even having a community.

Here are a few mcmaster items I've had some fun with. A couple of them were initially suggestions shared in a writeup by Splitlip. Imagine that.

9245K25 Clear PETG Tube 5/8" OD, 1/2" ID, Lengths of 6 Ft.
2987K21 FDA-Compliant Nylon Check Valve for 1/8" Tube ID, 1-5/16" End-to-End Length
7757K41 Polypropylene Spring-Loaded Ball Check Valve Buna-N Seat, 1/8" Barb X 1/8" Barb (Same as 7757K11)
50265K23 Brass Adjustable-Pressure Pop-Safety Valve Multi Range, 1/4" NPT Male, 25-200 PSI
8627K57 White Delrin Tube 5/8" OD X 1/2" ID, 5' Length
8573K13 White Delrin Sheet 1/8" Thick, 12" X 12"
8573K14 White Delrin Sheet 3/16" Thick, 12" X 12"
55095A33 Maxi-Grip Screwdriver with Antislip Tip Phillips Round Blade, #1 Tip, 6" Long
1658T49 Architectural Aluminum Tube (Alloy 6063) 5/8" OD, .527" ID, 8' Length
38105K31 Miniature Gauge - 5% Full-Scale Accuracy 29/32" Dial, 1/8" NPT Center Back, 0 - 60 PSI (Same as 38105K51)
5121K511 White Polypropylene Barbed Tube Fitting Adapter for 1/8" Tube ID X 1/8" NPT Female Pipe, Packs of 10
5121K941 White Polypropylene Barbed Tube Fitting Branch Tee for 1/8" Tube X 1/8" NPT Male Pipe, Packs of 10
53415K143 White Polypro Single-Barbed Tube Fitting Wye for 1/8" Tube ID, Packs of 10
85635K462 Fluorescent Cast Acrylic Sheet .118" Thick, 12" X 12", Amber (Same as 85635K421)

*Sigh*, Bob's right.

Here's some useful stuff (you may already have some of this):
5006K533 - 1/8" ID, 1/4" OD vinyl tubing (fairly standard for our uses, it's all I use)
62475K11 - cheap DCV, VERY useful in semi-auto setups
51525K213, 51525K123 - cheapest way to make a quick disconnect coupler of sorts (female, male respectively)

Also, I strongly recommend dividing this stuff up more (ie have a sheet plastic section, rubber washer section, plunger tube section, barrel material section, etc etc)

And 50% of the posts on NH consist of people telling people that their threads suck. Gets fucking old.

This is a good starting point for a compendium and I personally would like to see it grow. Mcmaster can be an intimidating place at first.

Edit: I like TantumBull's idea.

Some of these parts are used for specific purposes. It might be a good idea to put a short list of some potential uses of each item, or this page will become as cluttered as the actual McMaster site.

And 50% of your posts you complain, or they are pointless, but no one is complaining.

I actually think this thread is helpful, but we'll see.
I often find myself searching Nerfhaven for part #s. Anyway, useful things I have used lately:

9562K46 - Stretch-fit Rotary-shaft Ring Seal, 1" Shaft Diameter, 0.95" To 1.07" Shaft Diameter (Split's +bow plunger head)
8747K114 - GRAY PVC (TYPE I) SHEET, 1/4" THICK, 12" X 12" (Great for barrel spacers)
5116K18 - FDA WHITE NYLON SINGLE-BARBED TUBE FITTING, COUPLING FOR 1/8" TUBE ID
8660K31 - GRAY PVC (TYPE I) SQUARE BAR, 3/8" SQUARE (Great for plunger rod replacements)
6790T41 - Brass Push-button Valve, 10-32 Unf, Normally Closed, Projecting Style (Valve I used for the 4k)
5047K13 - Moisture-resistant Acetal Sngl-barb Fitting, Adapter For 1/8" Tube Id X 10-32 Unf Male Thread (Need two of these for the push-button valve)
8722K922 - Tear-resistant Fda Polyethylene Foam, 1/4" Thick, 24" X 24" Sheet, Plain Back, Black (Foam used for between +bow grip)
87225K21 - Tinted Polycarbonate Sheet 1/8" Thick, 12" X 12" (slightly cheaper polycarbonate than clear stuff)
87225K61 - Tinted Polycarbonate Sheet 1/4" Thick, 12" X 12"
8859K33 - 1/2" OD Brass tubing
8859K34 - 17/32" OD Brass tubing
8859K35 - 9/16" OD Brass tubing
8859K38 - 21/32" OD Brass tubing (fits perfectly over stub on back of 1500 turret)

There is a lot more. But I agree with Split, I think this needs to be organized better.

Springs:
9657K82 - Catch springs
9637K19 - K19, nests over [k26]

Instead though, you should post a tutorial on how to browse mcmaster. There's way too much stuff for homemades to list, such as various thicknesses of plastic sheet, of various materials, in various LxW dimensions. If you want all of them you might as well just post the pdf of their catalog.

I was referring to the NIC overall. This thread actually is being worked in parallel on more than one site.

But since you bring it up, I am aware of the "haven" aspect, and I'm sorry you've had to deal with all the hardship of becoming by far the most popular nerf site on the net. I know that it's been more work to keep up with than you probably intended to volunteer for.

If you want to navigate McMaster for something you're not entirely sure the correct term for it helps to start with the most generic search term possible (like "Plastic Pipe" or "Aluminum").
You can even navigate through their sorting system from the categories on their start page that now include pictures.

If you can't manage to find what you want, then you're giving up too quickly.
I see a thread like this bordering into the territory of "tell me what I should use because I don't know how to make decisions for myself", also know as "Wut iz best".

The only item I can imagine is hell to shop for through their catalog is springs. There are just so many variables to take into account when trying to select one that's appropriate for the intended use.
For everything else, the descriptions or mechanical drawings they provide for many items are more than sufficient.

I am currently in the process of adding more part numbers and reformatting the entire list so the categories are more specific and helpful to the person reading it. It will be up before the end of the day.

~Nrg

EDIT: The list is taking a while because I am adding a lot of things so it will probably be up tomorrow not today.

I love this simply because I suck at navigating mcmaster, having the #'s will really help to find some things. Some people who are going to start a new mod and need hard to find parts, and really have no clue about homemades or replacing parts, so this thread will give them a good start. I am posting all of this because I am in this boat.

I really like where this thread is going. Not so much listing +bow parts, but listing parts people have gotten in their hands and possibly have pictures of working for certain applications, such as plunger tubes that fit nicely in whatever blaster, good material for plunger rods for whatever blaster, and just all around useful parts for whatever blaster.

I say get rid of the +bow parts list, and we slowly build a list of things for common/popular blasters

a set up something like

NF Plunger Tubes:

######### (same dimensions as stock plunger tube)
######## (slightly bigger, requires minor sanding/dremeling to fit)
####### (much larger than stock, requires much reinforcement, cutting, and fitting)

I don't know, that's my two cents.

Or, you can learn how to measure and figure out what materials and dimensions you need. Because if you can't do those two, you should give up on homemades.

Why reinvent the wheel? Why not get people more easily to the point where they have the ability to make tried-and-true homemade and innovate from there?

I just benefited greatly from all of the 3 useful posts because doing the fine measurements and tests and experiments to find the best/ideal/optimal/better-than-most parts is just not my strength. Never will be. Sorry.

But now I can take your guys’ hard work and use it to contribute in different ways. Might be a little as a post or two in the pics thread, but I’ll never even get that far if I have to start from scratch with every build.

The Difference:
-Guns shoot bullets that kill people
-Blasters shoot darts that tag people

I do not play with guns.

Because if you have to be spoon-fed the materials, then you clearly don't understand why they were chosen, and consequently the product is going to be sub-par.

Also, see:

I see a thread like this bordering into the territory of "tell me what I should use because I don't know how to make decisions for myself", also know as "Wut iz best".

If you don't find this thread useful, then don't post in it. Others do find this thread and the information in it useful.

Take a look at that. Draw some conclusions.

But we have like 30 directories. It would be hard pressed to say any one of them has made us weaker. Seems like this thread idea here is more helpfull than hurtfull if your forte is not buying part after part to find the right one.

Shit, I think I'm in the Special Olympics...almost got sucked in. We can cover more over beerce next war we be at.

Then why should we share any information with each other? Why has anyone ever made a tutorial or write-up for others to learn from?
The purpose of a forum (whether or not it's "elite" to avoid some people) is to share information, communicate new ideas, and to learn from each other. I'm not a fan of "spoon feeding" when the information is easily accessible, but fine measurements to Nerf blasters aren't easy to get without the right tools. I see no problem with this thread since there is someone willing to maintain it and people willing to help update it.

It doesn't negatively effect you, so why do you even care? Is it because... oh noez... someone can replicate your work without fully understanding it, deteriorating the "awesome-ness" of your skillz in the eyes of the NIC? Is this whole "don't spoon feed" concept just to make you and your other unholy 2 appear even better than everyone else? That's what it seems like to me.

If you think putting all the information in a single location is "spoon feeding" then we should get rid of all the directories, write-ups and hell, even this forum. Because their purpose is the same: Bring information together to make it more accessible.

On the other hand, the guy who posted before me used the word 'fuck' a lot so he probably knows what he's talking about.

Can you guys please take this to PMs or the IRC? This is really getting annoying and cluttering up my thread.... For all those who commented and provided information, thank you.
