I'm in a sort of a dilemma here, and I figured some of you on here would have the answer. I don't go to major wars as often as some of you guys do. I tend to have lots of mini wars with friends that usually only consist of 2 or 3 people (myself included).
For 2 people:
We've pretty much been playing one-hit deathmatch as 4/20 or 3/15 wouldn't work to well with 2 1-person teams. This has been getting kind of bland, even with changes of location. Anyone have any gametypes that would work well with 2 people other than your standard deathmatch?
For 3 people:
We don't even know what to do when there's three. Usually what happens is one person sits out while the other people do the deathmatch variant outlined above, and then we rotate.
Any and all help is appreciated.

You give the guy alone a certain amount of time to hide in the dark area/rooms. Then, it's basically like a tactical nerf team, sweeping rooms and stuff. when you start the countdown the poeple with the guns must be in an area with light so their eyes aren't accustomed to the light at the beginning of the round. Generally, we have the recon laser lights to use during the actual mission, but not the green ones because that is just too cheap. The lights give you a dim look in the area so you barely see, but still see little of what you need to see.
Its really fun the first many times you do it, because it will all be quite, and kinda spooky for everyone, and then at some moment there will be the clatter of sword against gun and everything becomes hectic XD. Everyone will be running into each other and firing in every direction in panic. One time I got shot by my own guy XD. But seriously whenever I do this and I hear the guy smacking the sword against someone's gun, or I have gotten a glimpse of the enemy, I just fire off my clip nonstop. Of course, by that time it's generally over.
This game mode is great fun cause you get crazy moments and dodges/moves that you'll remember for a long time.

You can also do traitor, but you need at least 4 people (its funner with more people). One person, usually the one being hunted, whispers to the three, or more, man team "safe" or "traitor." The traitor can reveal himself whenever, but the team must still hunt down the person who said safe or traitor.

One game type I've found to be fun with 2-5 people is a little night game. Basically, you got whatever indoor location with rooms, with one bad guy equipped with a plastic knife or sword, and the rest with nerf guns, generally unmodded. All the lights have to be out except for at the "good guy" area where they start off.

That sounds pretty cool. I've done something similar at a friend's house. Definitely something to try out with mav's. Thanks for the idea, however I'm more kind of looking for outdoor stuff with heavily modified blasters. Something to consider, though.
That sounds incredibly awesome. Thanks a ton for the idea. I can't wait to try that out with three people. I've tried two on one, the one person having a better gun, and it was still unfair to the gu who was by himself. A bunker should definitely even out the playing field. For 3 people I usually do bunker, were two people attempt to kill the one guy in the bunker (who gets a vulcan or a magstrike with backup weapons). simple, right? Well you can put a twist to it. The two man team attacks the bunker, but whoever shoots the man in the bunker becomes the "bunker guy," and the eliminated player joins the other attacker.
You can also do traitor, but you need at least 4 people (its funner with more people). One person, usually the one being hunted, whispers to the three, or more, man team "safe" or "traitor." Thanks for the reply. For 1 on 1, I'm trying to find some new gamtypes that have bigger objectives then just eliminate the enemy, or even keeping that and throwing in twists. Also, I've tried free for all and it sucks for where I play. I generally like rounds I play in to be as fair as possible, especially when its just a few people. When I have mini wars with my dad/my friend, we usually play a "whoever gets 10 hits first wins" kind of game. For three people, try a free for all with the 3/15 or "whoever gets 10 hits first wins" rules.

capture the flag
Thanks for your one of the most generic games on the planet, which most of the time is better suited for larger battles with more then 2-3 players.
Anyways, My friends and I like to also play the bunker game. Instead of having each player have one life, we give the attackers three lives, and the defender, two lives (as in the attackers can be shot three times and the defender twice). When an attacker is shot he has to go a certain distance from base, once he 'respawns' he is now fair game, which allows the defender to try and pick him off as he rushes the bunker. This game works well with three people, but can also work with up to five, but that would take a little tweaking of the rules. O and we also set up the bunker with the better, farther shooting weapons with more capacity, and the attackers with the crappier guns. The attackers however, get a couple smaller shelters to hide behind.

We've as to also played President, where one person on a team has to get to a certain spot but that person can only use a pistol.
Finally we tried hostage, but I think you know what that is.

Me and my friends have played Search and Retrieve games where one team has to retrieve an object while the other team tried to eliminate them.
We've as to also played President, where one person on a team has to get to a certain spot but that person can only use a pistol.
Finally we tried hostage, but I think you know what that is.
I really like the sound of those games.
On to being semi-useful.
My wars are also usually small affairs, played on a baseball field, all of us being newbies. We generally play last man standing with 5 HP. If your group likes, you can add extra lives, but our rounds are usually fast paced enough to permit one life without excessive boredom.

I usually found that three person rounds turned into standoffs rather quickly unless the blasters were near-stock and had similar characteristics; Range and ROF wise (Mavericks, Fireflys, Recons, etc.). This allowed for full use of the area (in this case my yard) and lots of dodging.
Longer ranged weapons resulted in three-way standoffs that were boring.
Also we used two types of "grenades"(half filled water bottles or tennis balls); concussion that would hit you within 10' even if you were behind cover and frag that was the same except that it couldn't penetrate cover (lawn chairs and table thingies).
This worked because we had a rule that the third player would judge whether or not the "grenade" was within 10' of the target, because generally the thrower would say they were within 10' and the target would disagree.
Limiting the number of darts a person has to twice the blaster's capacity forces all players to eventually move out from cover to retrieve darts, this keeps the game moving and also helps dart loss.

We made it fair/un-ghey by limiting the amount of ammo you can have to one shot loaded and one in hand and by negating barrel-taps or melee outs. It was a giant Charlie Foxtrot but that was part of the fun.
-Guns shoot bullets that kill people
-Blasters shoot darts that tag people
I do not play with guns.

Normandy: Attacker must make it from spawn point to a set location with a timer inside. Defender must stop him, shoot him and make him return to spawnpoint as many times as possible, delaying his arriving at stopping the timer. Defender has one life. Switch, and see who can get to the timer the fastest.

Two people-
1) Dark Close Quarters Battle - Turn the lights completely off and sneak around with a small flashlight and an automatic / high rate of fire weapon. You try to hunt down the other player first without getting hit. Its really fun if you have automatics because it scares the shit out of you when you get owned by a magstrike.
2) Free For All - Usually indoors, we use all different guns and other off-weapons like rubber band guns and low-powered airsoft rifles. This one isn't really nerfy, but its one of the funnest game types because you have your standard nerf weapons, but you get to use makeshift and other ridiculous weapons as well. There are infinite lives.
Three people-
1) Standard Death Match - Indoors or Outdoors
Four people-
1) Trench Warfare - In a large room with lots of cover, you create a "trench" out of random crap and you try to duke it out WWI style. To win, you need to eliminate the entire enemy team. This can be done by fighting from the trench, or braving "no man's land" (the land in between the trenches) to jump into their trench and mow them down.
2) CTF - Self-Explanatory
3) Team Death Match
I hope I helped out. That is all the game types that I can think of as of right now.

I've played this game type with my wife's younger siblings. We set up two opposing "forts" in their large basement, using chairs, couch cushions, the pool table, etc. We played simple 3-hits = you're out (no count-outs, but multiple hits within a short span of time was deemed to be one hit). We played for nearly two hours, switching up teams and playing various rounds. To keep things sane, we limited ourselves to Mavs, Recons and Nite Finders / Disc Shots, as it was fairly close-quarters.

(makes you think....)
They say, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." What?!?!?!?!
I say, "Screw that! Give me a bigger gun!"

Last weekend me and two of my friends set up some elaborate cover in my front yard and tried switching off on quick one-on-one rounds. We were using heavily modded pistols, but quickly realized that the pistols just shot too far. They cleared the whole yard easily, so moving up through the cover was pointless. Then my friend, who has an obsession with doubleshots, broke one out. To make it fair, I brought out a mav. I didn't have any extra shells, and you all know how much of a pain in the ass it is to reload a maverick, so it was basically whoever runs out first loses. It was insanely fun, definately one of the best nerfing experiences I've ever had. The person with the DS was at a major range and ROF disadvantage, yet everyone loved using it the most. Why, you may ask? Watch the Bourne Identity and you'll know. At one point I pretended to have a limp.
Moral of the story is that sucky guns by the NIC's standards are crazy fun to play with when there's just a few people. I'll now probably be ordering a bunch of doubleshots and shells off amazon or something.

Ghost- can be used if ffa or team basically it is when you kill someone they are out, and they have to remember who shot them when the person who shot them dies they are back in so the game doesn't end til either you kill everyone or an entire team has been wiped out (example with three people all three start Person A hit person B. B sits out, but person C Hits person A, meaning person A sits out and person b is able to spawn, then person C hits person B and both A and B are out at the same time making C the winner)
