To SchizophrenicMC, No harm done. I understand what you were getting at with your edits. I dont post here all that often but I try to make what I say not only germane but easy to read for everyone. I want to remain in the good graces of everyone here because you're all quite helpful from the admins on down.
Anyway I do think that Halo-style games certainly could work under the right circumstances. Id certainly like to try a Slayer-type game either on my own or at another Nerf war.

I've always wanted to try a 3/3/15 match. Three hits a life, 3 lifes, 15 second count off between the lives. I've never had a big enough war to try it though.

I wasn't thinking of a large number of small teams, I was thinking the opposite. A couple 4-5 person teams wouldn't work that well, too big of a problem with cheating and/or anger because somebody screws up the entire team.

I had been kicking around this idea for a while for a deathmatch style game here at LU (or somewhere in Lynchburg)
Its a combination of Nerf rules and some body rules we use in the campus sword fight club.
If you get hit in the arm you lose the arm. If you get hit in the leg you lose the leg. If you get hit in the same arm or leg it is considered a torso shot and you are automatically dead. If you get hit in the torso regardless of the number of limbs you have you are automatically dead. Hits to a hand or wrist when the hand is holding a weapon do not count. Hits to the ankle or foot do not count unless the foot or ankle is off the ground (say you jump or dive to evade). I was planning for the second floor of one of our academic buildings which led to these other rules:
Everyone begins with three lives. If a limb is hit you cannot use that limb but you may go to designated "safe areas" and respawn that limb after a count of 30. If you are killed you return to the starting point and your death is recorded and you turn in one of your lives (signified by large red X's on pieces of paper given to each player before the start of the game). If you are dead you cannot pick up any ammunition NOR can you fire at anyone. If another player asks if you are alive or dead you must answer truthfully BUT the other player cannot then immediately shoot you. Once a player loses all their lives they must return to the starting area and report to a game marshal and be recorded as "out". There are "extra lives" spread over the game area and everyone can gain up to two additional "lives" over the course of the match. Also spread throughout the area are "restores" If you have one, and you lose your last life, you can return to the start area, turn that in and you will be given one life and 10 seconds of invulnerability upon reentering the battle area after reporting to the marshal. Finally, last man standing wins.
