So I've had this Halo laser tag pistol for a while now, (it was my birthday present to myself last year), and have been wanting to convert it to foam ever since I first tried it out as a laser pistol. The rate of fire was a bit too low for my tastes, and the sounds it made were reminiscent of a sad Sci-Fi channel movie. It's taken so long, because I wasn't sure as to what gun to use for the firing duties. Then it hit me. That 2K in the corner should do the trick!! So, anyway on with the write-up.

Materials Needed:
1 Air Tech 2000
1 Jasman 2-Player Laser Pursuit Covenant Halo # Plasma Pistol Set (You've gotta get the 2 player one, the single pistol has much more internal components such as motors, and springs, and other stuff I don't know 'cause I've never opened one up)
1' Airline tubing ( 1/4")
1 Piece of 19/32 brass
1 Piece of 9/16 brass
Heavy Duty Fishing Line, or similar strong thin wire

Alright, so here you have your Plasma Pistol,
Posted Image

Crack 'er open and remove the internal components (you can either toss 'um, or save them for another project like I did, I couldn't find a way to fit them inside with my 2K). This is what you should get;
Posted Image

Now, take your 2k, take out the pump, and blast chamber. Get rid of that short yellow tubing (I used an X-acto knife and made a small slit in the tubing so I could grab it with my pliers to get it off), and all the rest of the gun, we only want the pump and chamber. Chop off the goo gauge, right where it connects to the orange/red disk shaped thingy. Just look at the picture.
Posted Image

Also, to get it to fit, just right, you'll need to trim the shell down a bit.
Posted Image

Now, we're going to need a place to put the pump. I figured the best spot would be in the bottom battery compartment. I had to cut about 2.3"-3" off of the pump housing to get it to fit inside the shell correctly, without cutting into any of the screw posts. You're also going to want to make a small + shaped open ing in the back of the battery compartment to allow the pump handle to be used. You don't want to make a big hole in the back, or else while you're feverishly pumping in the heat of battle you're going to pull too hard and yank the pump apart, and then have to fiddle with as you're being pelted with foam. Once again the picture should explain if I haven't.
Posted Image

Now on to the blast chamber and barrel area. Take this nifty green piece;
Posted Image
and cut it so that your 19/32 brass can fit through it, like so....
Posted Image

Ok... just to make it a little easier, in this picture I circled all the areas you'll need to trim in red.
Posted Image

Now, take your 19/32 brass and flair out one end a bit, so that it'll fit over the larger nub at the tip of your 2K tank. Once you know it'll fit all the way down, goop it up a bit (not too much) and jam it on. Attach the tank and the pump using you 1/4" airline tubing.
Next tie your fishing line ( I like to use the heavy stuff, 50lbs test) to the trigger pin on that 2K tank. Now take the little red re-load button and drill a very small hole in it like I did.
Posted Image
Now thread your line through.
Posted Image

Now put all that stuff in side the shell, make sure you've trimmed everything right and you've centered everything. A dab of hot glue here and there to make sure nothing going to move around too much, and this is what you should get.
Posted Image

That should be it for the insides, screw it back up, and grab your piece of 9/16, throw a few tightening rings on one end and there you have it, a dart firing Plasma Pistol.
Enjoy!!

Wow I love it. My only greivance is that the pump and barrel are still visible. Not that you could do anything about it.

Finally somewhen went out and did it! I posted a thread about those Halo guns before, but not many people seemed to like their price tag. How much did the set cost you?

Once again, a job well done. Is the pump placement awkward at all? The plasma pistol looks as if it is very comfortable.

Dang, that's a sweet-looking 2k. Now all it needs is a great dry-brushed metallic PJ (in the original colors, of course.) Nice job Saladin. And is this the really expensive, but amazingly cool, Plasma Pistol replica sold at Hot Topic? If that's the case, I probably wouldn't have messed it up.
EDIT: Crap, I really need to learn to read.

I just want to say sir, that this is one nice modification.

May I also add that if you do the original scheme, use v10 Ultra Green glow for the taser part, and a nicely colored neon green under it (Glow paint is clear in the daytime!) That would look SO killer in the dark, v10 paint is VERY, VERY bright! Perfect for this application!

I'd like to see this again with a pocket blaster instead. Would conceal the pump more, and you could most likely keep the sound internals, plus you wouldn't have to use a cord. Just run some vinyl tubing from the end of the pocket blasters tank to the from of the barrel.

At any rate, good stuff my man, keep it up.

Wow, great job, that might fetch a decent price on Ebay. For your next project, you could use the Plasma rifle and put at2k internals in it.

veginator- I hear ya on that one. That's why it took me so long to get this thing done (I've had it since Dec. 29) I couldn't find a gun that would fit better.

rokor- Actually, there are two pistol models. The expensive one does all sorts of crazy shit. It recoils, opens up to cool down if it overheats(like in the game), has an ammo counter, and some other stuff that this one doesn't. I think that one was like $50-$60 US. The ones I got were the dumbed down version. None of that spiffy stuff, just lights and sound. The good part is I got two for like $14.99 I think. I got them on Amazon.com.

durka durka- Nope. The pumps not too bad. you can just point the gun at the ground and pump it rather easily. But, I must admit, the first few times without even thinking about it I just grabbed the gun around the middle.

twenty4-That's what the fishing line is for. Most people will put a keying on these makeshift triggers. I just tied it in a loop, so that it wasn't as noticeable.

Salmon- Thank you much, sir. And that's what I'm thinking. The stock paint-job leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Merzlin-Thanks! And I think I'm going to have to take your advice to heart. That stuff is pretty slick!

Soothsayer- <slaps myself dutifuly in the head> You know what? I have one of those in one of my parts bins. On the bright side though, I do have that second player one left to still tinker with. But anyway, thanks.

Disturbed-Thanks, and hell yeah the plasma rifle would be pretty sweet Nerfed out.

Wow, looks great Saladin. The only complaint I have (like veginator) is that you can still see the barrel, which ruins the complete Halo experience (which is what you were aiming for in the first place) for me. The pump showing is understandable, but maybe you could put the AT2K tank farther back up at the top and have the barrel inside the gun itself, not sticking out.

Or maybe that's not possible and I'm throwing bad ideas out there. But nontheless, good work.

People, stop trashing him just because you can see the barrel in the pump. Unless if you can make it yourself so that you don't see either I wouldn't be talking.

Salindin, good job on it. I'm confused why you used brass (the 19/32) instead of a coupler or something, but it works either way. Nice job.

Yeah, that does get to me a bit too. I though of that too, (placing the tank farther back), but there aren't any decent internal walls to go off of, for setting the tank and barrel securely. That's why I left the bottom of the goo gauge on there too, instead of cutting that part out too. I'm not sure how easy it is to see in the pictures, but it sits in one of the few niches in the side of the shell. Maybe I could have used epoxy, and made my own hard points to go off of, but I didn't really want to risk it. And as far as the barrel, I was disappointed that the brass was too thick to actually sit in the green emitter thing, and that I had to cut that section out. I didn't want it to sit back too far from the opening, because I wasn't sure that the darts wouldn't bounce off the sides of the shell.
But anyway, thank you.

bamblack2000- Thanks, I couldn't really find a way around it. I used the brass just because I like the look and feel of brass over PCVC. No real reason other than looks.

What I find hilarious is that I was just looking at my Plasma Pistol 2 days ago and was wondering what it would look like nerf'd. And here we go, here is one right here.

Looks great.

It fires off of that clear wire I'm pretty sure.

Naz, I don't play Halo, so I'm likely to be wrong, but doesn't the gun fire from through the gap in the c shape, where the "plasma" is? It's hard to tell from the pictures how large it is, but comparing it to the tank, it seems tiny. Could we possibly get a comparison pic?

Anyway, as for stiff points to attach the tank to, "Great Stuff" expanding foam is an awesome material to work with if you have the time. You can fill in the whole area and carve out the perfect niche for the tank. Cut too much? Just foam 'er up. Easy to cut through, yet stiff and rigid. Perfect for that application.

Were I doing this, I have no idea what I'd exactly do, but I'd try to make it fire through the plasma (if that is in fact where the gun shoots from in the game) with the tank in the center part. A straight keyring would mean one handed firing, and a petg barrel would be less conspicuous. If there wasn't enough space for the tank there, I'd cut those parts out and relocate them outwards to have enough space. I do really like it though. With a tight fitting dart, does the 9/16" barrel come out when you fire?

Split- Yup you got it. That pull that wire back and you fire the gun. And you are also right about where the actual gun discharges. And it's about the size of a Recon.
Posted Image
As for making it fire from the center, you probably would need to move that area outward, it's only around a half/three quarter inch thick. And thanks for the tip about using Great Stuff. That shit's like Duct Tape, it holds (or seals) the world together.
And as far as the barrel flying out, it hasn't happened to me yet, but my darts (I use either streamlines or wieghted stock darts. <Ducks under the flying shoe> I know that's pretty lame, but I suck at making darts.) are a bit loose, that's why I use tightening rings. They slowly fall out of the 9/16 but they get stuck in 17/32.

Nice work Salindin!
Integrations are a bitch.
But you have done it.
If anything I would just shorten the pump handle.
Other than that it looks wicked.

Forsaken_angel24- Thanks! Yeah it did take a bit of thinking to get it working/fitting right, and looking at the write-up is seams pretty easy for the time I spent figuring it out. Just a few small cuts here and there. What I really wanted to accomplish was getting the real trigger to fire the gun, but the trigger's stroke is only like an 1/8 inch, and it wasn't enough to get the tank to fire. Just some practice for something bigger and better, what that is I've yet to find out.

That is a very nice job. Your creativeness never ceases to amaze me.

Perhaps you can hook a rumble motor from an old game controller to a pressure gauge, that way when you have a bunch of pressure from pumping the whole gun begins to shake.

Nice work, I really love the idea of this integration looks clean and efficient. The barrel could serve as a possible 'what if' if the humans got their hands on a plasma pistol.

Some neon green stefans/darts would be very useful right now.

I was actually bought one of these while back. I've been debating with myself whether or not i should integrate a 2 or 3k in it  . Glad to see someone finally did it! I also have a Halo plasma rifle... To integrate or not to integrate-that is the question!
