A youth group I work with is in need of a fundraiser and I've been thinking, why not modify and sell nerf guns? The adults in charge approve of it and there is plenty of talent on the team. I'm telling you this because I need to know what project to do. Please post projects you've worked on and net profits.

I've been hired to do a few mods before. I usually don't ask much, just enough to cover the costs of materials and a little extra for my time, maybe $10 or $15. I'll usually waive the extra cost for my time when I'm modding one of my friends' guns. It's nice, because I get more chances to work on things and make a little money as well. In any case, you probably won't make too much off of it, because I doubt there's a lot of demand for modified Nerf guns, and if you do a really nice mod you'll have to charge more than people are willing to pay just to cover costs.

ok first off thats not a bad idea, i have profited almost 50 bucks from my mods, i would advise starting with mavericks and selling them. sell them on ebay but you have to paint them for any one to want them, thats the hardest part and if your youth group likes it the you guys could host wars even as a fundraiser.

(dont take this to hearth though, practice makes perfect)

seems like a good idea, but I can't imagine parents being happy about you turning their harmless toy guns into "dangerous" weapons. Sure, modified nerf guns aren't life threatening or anything, but a stefan in the face or eye from a well modded gun hurts like a bitch.

I'd stick with the bake sale.

Modded nerf guns is a limited market with already way too many players in it.

Buying 2ks in bulk then reselling would be your best bet. Modding for money, very tough market.

To actually even make a profit the most you could is probably slap a peice of PETG on the barrel and sell some stefans with it (i.e buy bulk amounts of nite finders and do this)

So stop with all the "new Recon" crap. This thing definately isn't a Recon, I'll wager my soul. Someone can quote me on that if they'd like

Sell modded/painted black Longshots or Vulcans to air soft/milsim/paint ball jockeys and earn money. I tried it once, and I had people paying 50 dollars for a really nicely painted LS.

The 3 steps to Nerf profit -

1. Start a Nerf video channel where you can post your ads.
2. Gain a large fan base of Nerf kids.
3. Hope that some of those kids have rich parents who will buy your guns for an incredible amount.

It seemed to work for Ice and others, I guess it depends on luck too.

Gah! That's a lot of money to be made off of toys. I have been doing this for a little over a year and haven't spent that much on all of the over 100 blasters that I own.

if you have that much time, you may think about not only modding blasters, but setting up wars with a small entrance fee. Your youth pastor may be able to set up something periodic and regular. Maybe as extensive as a squad league or something. The key there is to have reliable, schedulable location and advertise the crap out of it with other kids. Not only should you be able to bring in more funding, but the more people you get to the wars, the larger audience you have for your modded blasters.

I'm not sure the group leaders will approve of hosting wars because it's BSA but I'll speak to them about it. Also, I admit that this won't take care of all of the funds but I want it to take up as much as possible.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

I agree with slug. You can't really go wrong with manual labor type deals. Modifying nerf guns for money doesn't work that well, for the most part. My friend and I put weeks of work into my Lancer, and it cost ~$260 to make, and it only went to $280 on ebay. You probably could make money off of the 2Ks though.
