I got a sonic bazooka a while ago, and I thought I could find a way to make the coupler accessible without cutting off half the shell.

So, without further ado,

Coupler Extension

Tools needed:

Dremmel

Hotglue gun

bandsaw/hacksaw

Supplies needed:

Plumbers goop

19/32nds brass

1/2 in. Sch 40 CPVC

OMC PETG

Two 1/2 in. CPVC Couplers

One Sonic Bazooka

Ok, First take the gun and open it up. Set aside the pump. Take the airtank and hacksaw off the stock barrel, and then sand down the inside of the nub that is left over. Stick about a two inch peice of 19/32nds brass inside the nub of the airtank and hotglue it in. Then when the hotglue is dry, plumbers goop it. The brass shouldn't fit all the way inside of the nub though. just a little bit. Sand down the inside of the brass that is sticking out.
When you are finished with these steps here is what it should look like.

Then put one 1/2 inch CPVC couple on the airtank and goop it on. Then take a small segment of CPVC and hotglue that to the coupler, and then glue another coupler onto the CPVC. It should all be assembled so that the brass fits just under the top coupler, and the top coupler sticks about an inch out from the gun.
Done with that? Good. It should look like this.

You could stabilize the "coupler" with something like cardboard or something, but I chose not to. It is plenty solid.

In the finished project I have a 6 in barrel, but thats not getting much range, so I would suggest a 5 or even 4 inch barrel, as the range get higher as you go down.

This mod could probably also be done with a BBBB or a LBB. Just differences in lengths.

Ranges: I used a 4 inch barrel, and 6 random stefans with 2 brass BBs as weights.

1.54 ft.
2 56 ft.
3 59 ft
4 61 ft
5 57 ft
6 60 ft

A little disappointed with the results, but oh well. An interesting blaster, and I like it.

I'd like to thank bamblack2000 for his complete understanding of my noobishness in our trading buisness.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, if you want any pics of specific parts or explanations I would be happy to oblige.

Questions? Comments? Flames?

Thanks

I used to have that problem until I got circumcised. 15 pounds later I was able to stand up straight.

If it's as good as a LBB you can get high 80's, low 90's flat and about 100 to 110 ft angled with an 8 inch barrel very nice mod.

Mine, with a coupler right at the airsource, gets 80-90 easily. So you might want to look into how you load it (instead of putting it in the barrel shove it down the coupler)

I, too "have recon," as they say. I get him in old country. Then I realize he sucks like bog. So I trade him for potato.

If you don't want the coupler to be inside the gun and you want better performance cut it like this along the wall:

Yeah, I wanted to do that without hacking up the shell. It just looks ugly when you do that IMO.

Timmytown: the barrel that I have is very short, and when I load it in the front of the barrel, it doesn't get as much range as when I put the dart in the back of the barrel.

JustSomeBob: Thank you for your input, I will try and not mash the trigger as much. That might be why i'm not getting the ranges I expected

Ranges later today.

Hehe I'm glad to see that my Sonic Bazooka has gone to a good use.

Does the couplers add any dead space? Other than that its a great mod. When I had gotten them i bought 3. One 1 broke the air tank. One I sold to you. And the last a did the same thing except the put the coupler directly onto the air tank. I had to saw the shell though, looks "awkward" to say the least. I would probably do this if I get another again.

Nice mod.

One 1 broke the air tank.

Any chance you'll cut it open and post pictures? I'm probably not the only one who'd like a look inside.

Yea if you want pictures I can show you. Theres like a hole in the air tank where the barrel would come out. It snapped I think. I don't even know how to fix it.

What? 60 ft max? I got WAY more on mine, and I did this mod, which is basically the same thing. My barrel is longer though, try making a longer barrel, as I find air guns need longer barrels then spring guns.

How well do your darts fit into cpvc though? If it is a tight fit then that is probably way your range is a bit less. If you have a looser barrel there will be less friction and more distance. I generally use thin petg in PVC or Sch 80 for my high power air guns such as the big blast.

mrcrouse1: my darts are loose enough, I use 1/2 in. PETG inside my CPVC barrel, and I don't have to push dart in that much.

bamblack2000: yeah, I was kinda disappointed with the results, I'm gonna do some tinkering over the today, hopefully I'll squeeze a couple more feet out of this.

JSB: The darts that I use are not that loose that don't have to push them in at all, put they are loose enough that I don't have to force them in. That seems the optimal texture for darts in this perticular blaster. Ane yeah, I was a little surprised at the air output myself. I still really like the feel of the gun though.

Yeah, me too. There was a time in our office wars when I carried four at once. (that didn't work out real well, but only because my shoulder strap idea was terrible. I've improved it since then)

Also, you can "wedge" the pump. See my OPRV topic. I should get back to that thread some day and explain my LSB "trick" for higher pressures while retaining OP protection.

You can actually see two or three coils of the OPRV spring in this stock LSB pump. I put a shim under that spring.

JSB: I would be very interested in that explenation, for I would love for this thing to get the ranges I wanted in the first place.
