Yeah, he brought it to the last war we had and it worked awesome. I am still willing to give you that SSPB for intergation purposes, I still call it a carbine.

Yeah well I still call you a piece of crap. Naw, just kidding. And the AT2K is air powered, whereas this is spring powered, thats the difference.

Yeah, exactly. The whole purpose is to have something I could hold with one hand that has crazy power. Rover, here's that size comparison:



Not that big, but weighty at the front. Also, the barrel in that pic is one that I built so I could back-load Nerf Micros, because the other barrel was not at all effective with them, and biofreak2 said he wouldn't play at our local wars if I used stefans.

EDIT: The barrel is not crooked, it just looks like it because of the way the gun is sitting.

This is the major update that my sig was talking about. In the style of the original post, nothing will be written up step by step. This is more of a photo essay.

Revision 1: Replace plunger head with rubber washer/polycarbonate style

Revision 2: +bow spring addition and polycarb plunger rod

Revision 3: Use hex adapter and 1" coupler as plunger face

Revision 4: Use 6-32 screws to attach plunger tube

Revision 5: Eyes of fire inspired red led (just for fun)


Final product:


The E-tape is there to make certain that the plunger tube doesn't move. It's not totally necessary, but I like it. The new plunger tube will be painted flat black again, and lettered like it was at APOC. I would do it now but its dark and raining.

This isn't really a night finder anymore. It's more of a beast than NF. Great work! The trigger and the shell are the only stock parts of the gun left right?

I don't think there's even a contest any more. The only thing that even comes close is the triple NF, but yours is much more repeateble, plus it's fairly cheap/simple to make.

@JSB: I repainted and reused the second. Langley's doorfucker was actually the inspiration for the use of spring. I read his thread, then days later my parents replaced one of the doorclosers in our house. I promptly snatched up the old one, and was going to try to make something out of it, but ended up just gutting it for the spring.

@Splitlip: Ranges have improved a little since then, believe it or not. Can't wait till APOC '09.

@Wes: Yes, the only stock parts are the trigger, catch, and shell. I did replace the stock catch spring with a stronger one, but it wasn't really necessary, I just prefer a stiff trigger pull on my blasters.

What size rod did you use for the plunger? It appears to be 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch, but it's difficult to discern size from pictures sometimes.

The dimensions of the stock rod are 3/8" square. That rod is 4 strips of 0.093" polycarbonate glued together. 0.093*4=0.372" which is almost 0.375" or 3/8"

Its rock solid, no bending at all. Yes, the plunger head is attached with a screw, I drilled a hole in the plunger rod for it to go through. For the tee, I filed down the corners on the rod, hammered CPVC onto it, glued it there, then glued the tee to the CPVC, all using CA glue.

Take an actual tape measure to your "roughly 100 feet" some day. I think you'll find it's under 60.

You're wrong there bob. This thing is basically a +bow with a slightly shorter plunger pull. The second one got a very solid 100; I can't imagine the upgrade does 40+% worse.

The trellis that you see is not what I was referring to. That trellis is maybe 30ft away. The fence goes back past that, and I know its ~100' because there is a support post every 8 feet along the fence, and there are 12 posts. 8*12=96 ft. Sorry for the confusion, I probably should have taken this vid tomorrow, it gets dark here at like 5:00pm now .

Could a similar effect be achieved by gluing two Nf Plunger tubes together, extending the stock plunger, getting an equally killer spring, and using the stock barrel parts to lead into whatever barrel material?

That's what he originally did until he realized that it needed reinforcement, like a xbow.

Its been done, and it does indeed work. I was looking for a little more out of that mod, therefore I chose to use a larger plunger tube for more air volume. Stock tubes are 3-3/4" long with an inner diameter of 15/16". So 3.75" * 2 = 7.5" long. 1" thinwall has an inner diameter of 1.169". If you calculate out the volumes, you get ~5.2 inches cubed for 2 stock tubes glued together, and ~8.0 inches cubed for the 1" thinwall tube.
