Depends on what you like. Its good for close-medium range and small.

Nope. Don't get it. It was a waste of my time and money. I want my $20 back to buy more Nf's dammit!!

The AR was easy to get out using Slug's method. Spring replacements hardly increase range. Mine performs worse now that I've removed the AR.

Someone on ebay claimed "100 feet' with it, but I don't see how that's possible.

Ignore XNFx 37. He likely modified it wrong. Get it. If nothing else, it's fun.

I'll agree it's fun, but not useful for anything.

You are wrong. It's good for plenty of things. Defense, for one. It's compact, and you can run an extended 12 round magazine on it. make two, and you've got 20 decent range shots from a compact gun. You can easily squeeze 50 out of it.

I disagree, my Recon is a great gun. With proper modding it can get you 60+ feet. It's trickier to mod than your average Nerf gun, but for its size it's totally worth it.

All I did was drill out the Ar's from the back using SLug's Method, then I plugged the hole in the bolt.

Maybe something crapped out, but mine now performs worse than stock.

Unplug the hole, the plug's just creating friction.

Honestly, the Recon is no beast, but it is extremely fun. The different parts make it flexible and the clip system makes it fairly useful, but to me, the main draw is that it is plain fun. It sort of brings me back to my nerf roots, where nerf products had wonky add ons that made the gun look cool even if they were fairly useless.

I would suggest buying one. It's fun!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Mine performed excellently this past Friday night indoors, with myself scoring 2, 3, then 4 kills in successive rounds. xnf37x whatever, you should try a barrel replacement/addition. I placed a small section of 17/32" brass inside the bolt itself, and mine gets very good ranges, and the darts come out extremely fast at close range. You can add all the power you want to a gun, but if you can't harness it with the proper barrel then it's useless.

For anyone else who is considering the recon, here's my two cents:

In my opinion, for those who use stock guns, the recon is one of the best to come along in a long time. While it lacks the range of some other guns on the market, it more than compensates for this with its excellent rate of fire and reload time, not to mention its inherent adaptability.

It's hard to describe exactly how valuable the recon's modular design is. The majority of my opponents are friends of mine at my university, and for a long time i've been looking for the ideal blaster to carry with me on campus. The maverick was my weapon of choice for a long time, but is risky because of its slow reload time. The recon, in its most basic form, remedies this, as it has a similar size as the maverick, with the same capacity and a far better reload time. I also keep the "laser" in my backpack's side compartment, as it is surprisingly useful in indoor environments, like, say, dorms. However, there are times when more firepower is necessary. It is during these times that I find the barrel extension, combined with my crossfire, to be very useful. Though the extension itself can cause more variability in the recon's range, the utility of an underslung crossfire more than makes up for it, especially when your opponent tries to take advantage of the ever so precious window open to him while you're reloading. On top of this, the recon also gives you the option of a shoulder stock and an adjustable sight, which, with practice, is surprisingly useful for angled shots.

As soon as the target near me gets one i am going to get it. It seams that every time a new gun comes out it takes a month for them to get it in stock.

Are you SURE you really meant this? I can't think of very many other methods that are slower or more awkward to reload in the middle of a firefight than a plastic box magazine. Unless of course you are carrying a bunch of them preloaded around with you, which just eats up more space than simply carrying just darts.

I did what BPSO did. I shoved 17/32" brass into the bolt, and dremeled to the shape of the bolt so it still grabs the dart. I get 40 feet with streamlines. Haven't tried with stefans. Oh yeah, the AR was drilled out.

Good gun for so little work.

CaptainSlug How do you feel about this gun?
I was also interested in this gun, I just saw a couple at the local walmart. However I from what I feel, it seems to lack fire power to be a primary. The attachments seem to be quite ineffective. the set costs $25 up here, for another $15, you could get the LS. IMHO there are other side arms out there which are more effective albiet the recon has good capacity.

However there is a mod with a recon/nitefinder in the mod section, seems to have promising potential.

When on campus, I carry two spare mags in my backpack. When i'm raiding houses or in a war, I have a custom harness that allows me to hold up to three spare magazines comfortably. I have nothing but praise for clip-fed nerf guns.

In the space it takes to carry 3 or 4 box magazines holding 6 darts each (for a total of 18-24 darts) I can carry 40-50 darts.
If I were using a Recon in a war, not only could I not shoot as far and would be carrying fewer darts, but I also couldn't pick up anyone elses ammunition and use it if I needed to. And that's the underlying theme of my complaint with the current Nerf brand guns that use box magazines.

It's quaint and novel and it does at the very least perform much better than all of the other previous blasters that used an inverted plunger. However I'm not inclined to recommend it nor do I particularly like it.

It's just not a very effective weapon for wars (in my opinion) because.
1. It's too bulky to be used as a side arm
2. It doesn't shoot far enough nor is it accurate enough to be a primary
3. It uses box magazines, which I'm not a fan of because they're cumbersome
4. You really can only use streamlines with it, which are pretty terrible in terms of accuracy, durability, and price
5. You can't use a wide variety of stefans with it

To me it's just a neutered Longshot. I'm not really fond of the Longshot either because it too has the box magazine, is overly bulky, and isn't at all accurate. But at least the Longshot shoots far enough (when it's not jammed).

This made me laugh a little. Anyway. Yes, the Recon is a decent weapon. For an indoor primary, it can be excellent. Outdoors as a defense weapon, it can be excellent. In terms of range though, my mav consistently beats it by a few feet, and was half the price for the same amount of power and ROF.

That's an excellent review Slug, made me think a little harder about the impulse to get one. I can't help but think that this thing might have more potential than what we've already seen.

Are there any fans of Box Magazines and Longshots that can offer a rebuttal?

Also, would this be allowed in a Pistols Only war?
