I finally broke down and bought a Recon this afternoon and I would like to say that there is no dead space.
If you undo the screw in the very back of the plunger rod a cosmetic piece comes out and you can see this.
The plunger actually pushes against the opposite face. There's no real dead-space in the functioning section of the plunger rod.

Yeah, thats more or less what I found out. Can't help but think there aren't more ways to increase power in this gun though.I finally broke down and bought a Recon this afternoon and I would like to say that there is no dead space.

I don't think Nerf is actively trying to make their blasters unmoddable, if they were they wouldn't have contacts at this site.
As a community, we can come up with something to make this blaster better. The crossbow was released over a decade ago and people are still finding ways to improve it. The spring additions/replacements/whatever are working fairly well until we find something that works even better.

"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Firstly, I really recommend you read the Code of Conduct, I swear it's in your best interest. Secondly, if you look, you can see that there are tight tolerances for the inner and outer diameter of the spring, as it must fit around the 'Armed' portion and inside of it's 'sleeve' in the blaster.i was just wondering if you could put another spring in there instead of the wire like in the night finder mod i forget who did it but i think it might work... let me know what u think

Yes, I know that is a Maverick, but I mean the whole foaming for a more efficient pressure dealio.<-Edit

There is no real way to implement this, in addition I tend to believe multiple changes in diameter does nothing but slow the flow of air.Since I don't personally have a Recon, I have no idea if this will work, but it might help. Linkage!

First off thanks for the tip on the Code of Conduct. Second, if you could get a spring to fit though do you think it would work? I have a spring i think will fit so im just wondering if it would work in theory at least.Firstly, I really recommend you read the Code of Conduct, I swear it's in your best interest. If you can find a spring that fits inside the case, yeah it will work. Good luck buying a fitting spring though, the ones I was looking at were $9 with minimum purchase of 10, so $90USD.

That was my thought but there are a couple problems here. First, startup money. Second, the springs are totally untested, therefore, maybe they don't fit exactly right, degrade performance instead, break parts of the gun, etc...so really I (or we) could end up getting screwed anyway. I don't think I can get them to send me a sample either.Make a thread where people can sign up to order one from you. When you have at least 9 other people who want one order them and then sell them to each person for like 1 dollar more to cover your initial shipping.

That's a pretty good idea, I'd jump right in if I had money to spare.
Ever think they might have made it harder to modify the recon because of the crazy longshot mods out there? I didn't even mod mine full out, just took out the air restrictors and modified the darts. Even with felt tips, all my victims gripe over the sting for a few minutes, quite funny sometimes...

With a recon they complain? Who are you shooting, cute and easily breakable puppies? Small children? And this is good news, I didn't think that too many people would want to blindly give me $10+ with no guarantee. I'll start the thread in a day or so when I have time to determine what prices would be, shipping, etc.

Sorry I wasn't specific about which gun I modified, it was the longshot, not the recon, and it was a few college friends that I shot, though even with a well-modified recon I can't imagine it being powerful enough to get the complaints I've gotten with even the longshot. I don't have a recon yet, but judging by the pictures I've seen, it just doesn't look like it has much room for mods. I'll probably only know for sure when I get one and open it myself, and see what I can come up with.
