Ive been working on modding the Scout. Once I removed the air restrictors, this thing is getting in the 40-50 foot range, firing stefans (Note: I have yet to actually measure that range, but its a pretty good estimate).

I wanted to do more to it, so I took one of the main springs from a DoubleShot I have dismantled and put itinto the Scout. This was very effective, and added a ton of power to the gun. However, I could only get the gun to successfully cock once out of maybe every five tries.

I now have to go through a complex series of motions to get the damn gun to stay cocked. If I could only do that, it would be a formidable side-arm. As of now, however, its completely impractical to actually use when nerfing.

Anyone run into a similar situation or know how to deal with this problem?

Try replacing the spring on the catch; a spring from a pen might work.

The catch srping is too weak and on guns with the slide, the metal bar that pushes it back can not take the stress of new srpings very well. I found this out with a Mav. Even with the stock spring, it will eventually bend to much rendering it uselless.

Take a .2" (1/5") steel rod and replace the cocking rod (Carbon's inner 4th-grader is infectious). Then, find a Bic click-pen and replace the catch spring with the one from the pen tip. You may also want to reinforce the catch and the catch face on the reverse plunger.

That must've been a pain in the butt to put back together. I was only able to put a crossfire spring into my scout, the DS's spring was a tad too big. Do you mind telling us how you managed to put it in with out the plumger assembly exploding? I would really appreciate it, and you could even go on my list of the most awesome NH members.

Everyone covered what the problem most likely is, so there's no need for me to repeat it.

EDIT: Nevermind. i'm an idiot. What a migraine can do to a guy...

Well I just attempted to replace that spring using the spring I took out of the tip of a pen. Im not sure if it is the "bic pen" SHADOW mentioned (is that a brand name?).

I firstly found it hard to put the pen spring on the metal cocking rod...what the fuck. I just said metal cocking rod. But anyway, I pushed and bent the spring to try and make it fit, cut it when that didnt work, but it still looks something like this Posted Image

Do I just have the wrong spring, or did I mess it up? Or something else?

Bic is a brand name. But what the hell is that thing connecting the cocking rod on the slide to the inside of the gun shell? If that's a spring, then it isn't the right one. It also looks like you don't have a catch spring at all. See that orange ring around your primary spring? The peg in back of that is where you need to stick the pen spring (if you can find one).

In short, the pen spring needs to go on the catch (red circled piece, the actual spring goes where jwasko indicates in his next post). The original extension spring (the one that snaps back when you pull the ends apart) that was on the cocking rod (green square) should have stayed there.

Gunpowder: Yeah, you really messed up there. That wasn't the location we were talking about.

SHA: I'm pretty sure that peg is what gets pressed down by the side button on the Titan, which then fires the Scout. So, no, that's not where you would want to put an extension spring.

I'm 80% sure that that's where you want to replace the spring at.

Yeah, jwasko's got it. I haven't touched my Scout in a few months. That, and the fact that it operates differently than half of the inverse-plunger guns in my arsenal. But I do know that the green-squared area was completely off.

While we're taking about Scout problems, I was recently modding a friend's Scout, the Tech Target one, and I put an Ace Hardware spring in it (I don't know what gauge or anything so don't ask). After a few days, I fire it, and the back of the plunger busts inwards. Does anyone know how to repair it, or am I screwed?

No, you're screwed. If you busted in the back of the plunger tube (or in this case, inverse plunger), then you'll have to replace it or have to be godly with epoxy and precision. Even after repairs, it will be a weak point and not be perfectly aligned, which isn't ideal for the spot that has to support the force of a spring.

Haha guess thats a whoops. But I managed to get the original spring back onto the cocking rod, and I think ive found a pen spring that will work in the place jwasko suggested. Thanks for the help guys.

I think I'll try to etape the end of the plunger to try to create a seal.

Great minds think alike. The back of my plunger on my scout exploded too, and then I taped the back of it. Dissapointingly it only got about 20' flat after that (It got around 40' before), so don't get your hopes up about it shooting as well as it did before

Never mind, I fixed it. I had a busted Scout lying around, so I removed the end of the plunger and epoxed it into the busted plunger.
