#20934 Yet Another Ss1 Mod
Posted by Grinch on 08 March 2004 - 09:11 PM in Modifications
Just to let you know, people, there are going to be a LOT of pictures on this page.
First off, in an SS1, the plunger tube has an orange triangular piece that provides a locking mechanism (because the gun could previously switch between one and two barrels). However, I did away with this function, as well as the whole triangle piece itself. For people who are curious, this is what this triangular piece looks like:
Originally, for my brassed SS1, I had bored out the plunger tube so that its ID would be the same as a 1/2" piece of PVC's OD, so I could squeeze the PVC inside the plunger tube (the PVC was nesting the brass). There are two reasons why this was not a good idea. First of all, the plunger would hit the PVC before it could reach the end of the shaft. Second, after countless rams with the PVC, the plunger was probably weakened dramatically.
The concept is a bit hard to understand, but here's a picture that may help. Props to Yakman.
As you can see, the plunger tube is widened. All I did was shove a piece of PVC inside.
Anyways, once all was good and done, I had the gun looking like this, covered in electrical tape goodness:
The above modification I did back in December. I didn't get good results at all. This is because there are no air restrictors in the plunger tube. This makes it so that the plunger does not build up much pressure. On top of that, I used a brass barrel, which does not have much friction, and doesn't allow much pressure to built up inside of it.
Okay. A few days ago I took my Secret Shot apart again to re-examine it. I completely scrapped the whole PVC/brass barrel, and started over. Using hot glue, I glued a 1/2" CPVC coupler to the top of the plunger tube, without pushing it inside. For people that don't know, a 1/2" CPVC coupler has an OD that is roughly equivalent to the OD of a normal piece of 1/2" PVC pice. I added several layers of glue and wrapped the whole deal in plenty of electrical tape to achieve a tight fit back in the case.
The electrical tape is so tight and supportive that the coupler can barely budge when it is protruding from the SS1 case. I also stuck some foam backer rod in there for even extra support.
I cut myself a 1/2" CPVC barrel about 4" long, and pushed it into the coupler. The gun itself shot at least 55 feet, but I'm guessing it went over 60. Either way, the SS1 outdistances my Lock 'n Load.
The reason this mod gets so much better range than the brass one is because CPVC has a smaller ID, which allows the dart to built up more pressure.
By the way, the reason the case is partially cut off is because the gun was previously tri-barreled, like I said. Oh, and by the way, Secret Shots and Eagle Eyes should be the overrated guns, not the Lock 'n Load and the Tech Target.
Comments, questions? Enjoy the breach loaded SS1.

Doesn't he have like, the highest I.Q. in the US?Jesus god I want to shoot you.Hey, Hawkings is just in a wheelchair and he talks through a computer. Besides, I hear he's very popular with the ladies but yeah besides that he is a moron.
Obviously you know jack shit about Stephen Hawking and his work on space-time theories. To call him a moron in a wheelchair who talks to a computer is insulting.

My high school time is going to rock.Happy birthday to both.
And jumping into high school's a doozie. Or doobie. Whichever path your choose. Lots of nice (looking) chicks too.
I'm attending a magnet that focuses on graphic design and architexture. Last week, Pixar was examining the school for recruits that may be worth a full scholarship.
Oh, and, have a good one, Cobbs.

It only took about an hour, mainly because of the animated ones. I didn't get around to doing the rolling eye one.
Whatever, upload them onto the NH server if you wish.

Anyway, Janga, the mod I did to my Whiptail Scorpion was this: Take the tail, and remove the green things. Hot glue the tube down onto the gun, so that it points forward. It's alot more accurate now. And, if you want, you can stretch the spring.
#21762 Whats Better A Crowsbow Or A Blast Fire 500?

NinjaYoshi: When you want to add something to your post, just edit it, rather than making a whole new one.
Also, the "Xbow" and the "Crossbow" are the same thing.
Either a BF or an Xbow is good, but I would get the Xbow. They aren't too easy to come by.

#10727 What's Up With Nhq?
Posted by Grinch on 29 September 2003 - 06:52 PM in Off Topic
The problem is bandwidth. Every time someone views a thread, it eats up bandwidth. And NerfHQ is, without saying, the most populous Nerf forum on the net, so Spanky's wee 5 GB bandwidth limit isn't sufficient--especially when combined with the portion that is used up with his dad's site.
To get NerfHQ up faster, you can help. Spanky needs 5 gigabytes more bandwidth, which is a painfully high fee of $79. Donations are greatly appreciated. To make a donation, contact The Infinite Shindig or me (mgrinch_nm).
Now, this topic has already been discussed several times on numerous boards (especially NerfEvolved), so stop asking about it.

It's not supposed to be anything. Hasbro makes guns colorful and cool looking to attract little kids. I doubt Hasbro looked at the FastBlast and gave a shit whether or not it's accurate. The fact is, it'll shoot foam darts, and little kids won't care how good it shoots.like I said it's not soupoesed to be accurete.
By the way, BlackBlade, please try to use correct grammar/sp/punctuation.

Really? I think the AT2k is much, much harder to mod compared to the SM1500. It takes forever to open. That stupid cap on the pump prevents it.AT2k.
Cheap, available gun so if you screw it up it's not so bad.
Huge improvement - adds at least 50 feet to the range.

#17434 What Is Petg?
Posted by Grinch on 28 January 2004 - 06:43 PM in General Nerf
No it's not. Copper sucks.Brass is really expensive though. I prefer copper.
Yeah...and like I said, I prefer brass as well. It's much easier to work with. With brass, you can telescope, sand, polish, and it's very durable. PETG is very flimsy, can't be sanded without scratching it, and it's not as durable as brass is. Besides, brass actually has a different texture than PETG, and I seem to like the smoothness of it better.
I pick up my brass at local hobby shops for $2 a foot. That's pretty cheap. Hey, it's not 10' of PVC for a buck, but brass is good stuff.

#10203 What Do You Think About It:
Posted by Grinch on 22 September 2003 - 05:58 PM in Off Topic
I don't feel like they have much talent. They have auditions that they judge almost 90% on looks, and then they make the singing part using studio magic.
I think bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41 shouldn't be considered "pop". Blink started as a garage band in San Diego, and the same goes for Sum 41, 'cept in Canada. Same with Green Day. You can't fake knowing how to play a guitar, man. That does take practice and skills. These guys worked their way to the top, unlike these new boy-bands that have an instant hit.
