The Merits Of A Maverick

10 July 2007 - 06:24 PM

I am fearful of many newbies on this forum getting the wrong idea about mavs, because of how often people bash them. Mavs are definitely not great guns, but I'm going to explain some good things about them to attempt to convince newbies to think about getting them as one of their first weapons.

1. The maverick is cheap. $8 is not a lot of money. It's not the cheapest gun out there, but it's a hell of a lot better than forking over $30 for a long shot if you're new to nerf.

2. The maverick is easy to mod. Lots of people say they're hard to mod, which I don't get. There are many mods for the mav out there, with very detailed write-ups. They're really not that hard, even with zero modding experience.

3. For an indoor war, mavs end up being perfect. You never need to shoot farther than the 20ft you can get with a mav if you're in someone's basement, and anything more powerful would be overkill, and also piss people off.

4. Mav have great ROF. I can get off six shots in about four seconds. That's real good. Unlike clip guns, It's almost impossible to get the mav to jam from fast firing.

5. They look awesome. Even stock, the mav looks good and with a great paint-job, the thing looks wicked. There's something about revolvers.

Now I don't want anyone to say "I know this already" because this is to help out newer members. This is 5 good reasons for a newbie to get a mav, not bad, eh?

What Is This Gun?

15 June 2007 - 05:42 PM

My friend has a bunch of old guns, SSI, Warthog, etc. but there is one that looks pretty good.
I have no idea what it's called.
It has 4 barrels, but they don't rotate. They just fire in succession, so apparently the plunger moves around or something. It's green and gray. Its a spring gun, and it gets about 30ft stock with stock darts.
So I have two questions.
1. What is it?
2. Is it moddable?
If I could get some help here, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Maverick Shotty

Let me start by saying this is not a modification of the mav. If it were, I'd post it in the mod section.
I got a new mav today, because my other one was shittily modded. I did some basic mods, nothing special. I was monkeying around with shooting multiple darts at one time from my BBB, which my nerfing friends and I call shotgunning, and I saw my new mav, so peaceful...
So I whipped up some fresh Stefans (For some reason I had a bunch of blanks lying around) and lo and behold...
Two of my Stefans (around 1.5'' long) fit perfectly each barrel of the mav turret. I tried it out, and although the range is decreased a bit (It sucks normally, anyway) shottyshelling in the mav works great.
This helps me out a lot, because the only thing I use my mav for anyway is really close range, when my BBB isn't loaded (I haven't done a clip mod) this technique brings out the best in my mav.
Instead of being able to fire off six darts in four seconds, which is great, I can fire off twelve.
Hopefully there are those of you out there who will find this technique useful.
