Ls-dtg Integration

31 May 2008 - 12:51 PM

I've been thirsting for a new project for a while, so I decided to do a mod to my DTG. The rotation mech is totally broken (and currently lost, too) and I don't like the look of it. I figured I'd do a mod like OfAllTheNerf's Finesse, except without the ten barrel awesomeness. I spent a lot of time sawing and gluing cardboard on, and it became the SA-03 "Heavy Metal" (although maybe it should be "heavy cardboard" due to how much of it I used).

I did mostly use hot glue and I know that's bad, but I did attach the front handle area of the DTG with Gorilla Glue and put all that cardboard on. I also don't use my guns much and practically never war so it should be fine. Oh, and I'll spraypaint it soon (the same way as my SA-02 Pitbull).

EDIT: I did the paintjob today! Unfortunately I didn't have enough silver paint to do the weathering style, so I just went with 2 coats of flat black. I think it turned out pretty well:

Sa-02 Handgun Pdw

19 April 2008 - 02:33 PM

Do you hate your Maverick for it's bad ranges?
Did you try to mod it and you screwed up the turret and/or rotation mech?
Do you have nothing to do on a Saturday and you want a paintjob guinea pig?

If you said "yes" to any or all of the above, this mod is right for you!

Anyway, a long while ago my friend trusted me to mod his Mav. That was a bad decision. I did the straw mod (with hot glue :D ) and we found that I masterfully increased the range by negative 15 feet, not to mention the turret had to be manually operated. So he just gave me the Mav. Just today I was feeling bored (as I haven't been allowed to open Star Wars: Empire at War yet) so I decided to single it like I've been planning to for months.

First I cut off all that pesky stuff at the front, including the quarter-spherical things on the sides. Then I recycled a barrel from the original turret and drilled out the thick part in the back with a 1/2 inch bit. I used Longshot box cardboard to cover the holes, and finished it off with a classic Spectre666 weathering paintjob.

Here it is, the SA-02 Pitbull Handgun.

EDIT: Gets about 35 feet consitently with taggers, but for some reason normal CDTS's fishtail after about 15 feet.

Singled Shotgun Titan Modification

13 April 2008 - 05:22 PM

Well, I joined a year ago with the intention of helping and being helped by the NIC. Unfortunately, my efforts were stymied by my underqualifying age. I take no offense to that as I fully understand why there is an age minimum. So, with all that sentimental crap out of the way, it's time for my first original modification!

First off, I would like to say that this mod was heavily influenced by Gengar 003's awesome Shotgun cartrige add-on and ompa's original Titan singling mod. I thought they were both great mods, so I decided to put them together with my own little twist (having practically no commonly utilized materials).

I always like a little incentive in write-ups, so here's a picture of the finished product:

"Where's the shotgun add-on?" Patience young padawan. Actually you're almost definately older than me, but that's irrelevant.

WARNING: Read the whole write-up before attempting.

Materials

(top to bottom, left to right in the first picture)
1) Hacksaw
2) Krazy Glue pen ,or super glue
3) Gorilla Glue
4) Metal file (wood works just as well, but my metal file has 4 different levels of coarseness, not to mention I cant find the wood file)
5) Carpenter's square
6) 3 crayola, PETG, or 9/16 brass barrels, 3 inches long (not shown)
7) 9 inch piece of PETG, 9/16 brass, or thinwall sch 80 CPVC (not shown)
8) Longshot front gun extension barrel (not shown)
9) 3 pieces of 3 inch long FBR (not shown)
10) Hot glue (not shown)

Shotgun Stage
First step, cut off the front half inch or so of the Titan barrel. YOU MUST DO THIS, or the shotgun part will not work. Take the three 3 inch barrels and arrange them inside of the very front of the stock barrel. If they don't fit, either you didn't cut enough off the front or your barrels' walls are too thick. now stuff FBR or anything similar in the 3 outer cracks and hotglue it all to death. It may look a little sloppy, but if you lined up the barrels right and the whole thing's airtight, then it should work wonderfully.

Single Barrel Stage
Now, take the Longshot extension and remove the big, long, orange barrel at the top. Starting at the back, cut it off at about 3 inches. I advise that you mark the flat end (the part you didn't cut). Use the file to shorten the end you did cut, if necessary, and to remove the pieces of plastic sticking into the barrle that result from cutting. Also use the file very carefully to rough up the uncut end. Make sure you don't file so much that it ceases to be level. Then just Gorilla Glue it in place inside the small nub that the stock Titan barrel screws on to. I also used the Krazy Glue on the outside to add stability and to act as a "clamp" while the Gorilla Glue dried. All you have to do now is cross-drill holes in your 9 inch barrel (possible with a pocket knife). Use the carpenter's square to make sure it's level.

Operation
To fire the single shot, load your dart in the back of the long barrel. Simply insert it into the LS barrel, pump, and fire. For the shotgun or missile, take out the long barrel and screw on the stock Titan barrel. The best thing is, this requires no internal mods whatsoever and still achieves great performance.

Ranges
All ranges are flat, and all darts shoot in an almost perfect line

CDTS, 16 pumps:
114 feet
Streamline, 16 pumps: 68 feet
Custom Piercing dart: 117 feet
3 Custom piercing darts: ____#1: 40 ft____ #2: 53 ft____ #3: 57 ft____ about 3 foot spread

Here concludes the write-up for the Stryker arms SA-01B Prometheus.

Bolt Operated Titan Write-up

15 June 2007 - 01:36 PM

Ok first of all I will admit I haven't done this all the way yet. However, this is not just a "Concept-Idea" thread. I've already done the major part of it but I don't have a Titan yet :) . I just need some feedback for when I get it: ditch the idea and why, some improvements any why, etc.

Materials
--SCH-40 PVC (about 1/2" shorter than the stock titan barrel)
--9/16ths brass (9 and 1/2" long)
--Coping saw (or dremel, but you don't need it)
--Pocket knife
--Hammer
--Circular file
--Hot glue
--Pencil

Barrel
Now, take the PVC and make a mark 2" from the back. Make another about 4" from the back. Now make a cut with the coping saw that goes about 3/8ths of the way down into the PVC. Now cut along the PVC and make the two cuts meet (so that a 2" section of the top falls off). If you didn't figure out yet, this is our ammo loading slot.

Next we make the slot for the bolt. Make a mark just over 1" away from the end of the ammo slot (we're moving away from the back this whole time). Make a second mark 4 and 1/4th" away from that. Now make cuts down into the PVC like last time, except go 1/4th of the way instead of 3/8ths. Connect the two cuts with another cut, just like last time (again). You may want to make a cut halfway between the main two cuts to make it two shorter sawing intervals instead of one long one. Now take the file, which should be about one centimeter wide, and file into the side of your second slot. This part is a place to put the bolt when it is pulled back. Now insert the brass into the PVC and slide it forward so that the back of the brass is just in front of the front of the ammo slot. cut off a centimeter or so of a pencil and shave it down so it fits in the bolt sliding hole (if necessary). now glue this "bolt" to the brass at a position very close to the end of the bolt slide hole.

After I Get My Titan
After I get my Titan, I will take some measurements to see how much of the stock barrel to cut off and some other things. If it turns out that this could work, just hammer the PVC into the place that is sticking off the Titan once it's barrel is removed. If it doesnt fit, sand and file accordingly.

This is how it works: you insert the dart into the ammo slot. Then you pull back the bolt, pulling back the brass. the dart is right next to the second set of air restrictors so it can't go back, and the brass slides back and chambers the dart in itself. Then you turn the bolt into the little extra hole you made so the whole brass barrel isn't shot out when you fire. Then you pump it up and BAM. Now just take the bolt out of it's extra hole, slide it forward, and repeat. Pretty cool, huh? :D

By the way, I have tested this as a blowgun and it shoots about 20' very accurately (and I'm only 12, not very big lungs)

Accessories

Ok, this topic is where I will put links and descriptions of useful accessories.

#1. http://nerfhaven.com...?showtopic=8497 This is a bracelet that you can keep ammo on, and is easy to make (as said in the post)

#2. http://nerfhaven.com...4100&hl=Holster This holster is very sturdy and helpful in wars (not to mention it's awesome-looking).

#3. http://nerfhaven.com...wtopic=6964&hl= A cool ladder sight that is actually useful.

#4. This one isn't a link, it's a design by me inspired by some other post I can't remember. Basically you need a flashlight, a female slider off of a crossfire, and some cardboard. Cut the cardboard to the dimensions of the slider piece, glue it on, then tape+glue the flashlight on top of that. Good for night wars.

#5. http://nerfhaven.com...=Umbrella stock This one is another accessory topic, but only for gun accessories. It's got some cool stuff like the umbrella stock (thanks Retiate for reminding me :D )

#6. http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?show...e+grenade\? This parachute grenade is a personal favorite. It is great for getting people behind obstacles or just throwing around. EDIT: Scroll down to post #15 for the write-up.

I will add to this as I find more cool stuff. This is my first thread, how is it?
