Try le clothespin trigger. Never failed me as long as a thick enough nail was used.
the thing is that the area where you can put the nail through is to far back to work with the closepin, but maybe if I made some string come from the closepin to the trigger it would work but it would be tough to integrate a pivoting trigger. Look at this picture, see how it wouldn't work well.

Hmm, I was looking at the parts list, and saw 1" thin wall PVC. Could I use regular 1" PVC for that, or would I have to sand it? Also, I added all the expenses up and it's over $200. I don't know if I'll do this, all they sell the PVC is in lengths of 10'.
El-Cheapo your sort of right. It is a zurg action figure with a 3 round revolver on it. I think it is spring powered and shot small yellow balls.
I went in my basement and looked through al this old stuff and found the Zurg and a Buzz Lightyear. i think I must have the old- school version, it shot a plastic thing that was yellow but it's gone somewhere...
