NCNO (nik'-noh) n. A gathering of Nerfers in Northern California dedicated to spreading the joys of summer...and darts.

For a while a few of us NorCal folks have been kicking around the idea for a local war. Well, here it is! Just in time to vent frustration before heading back to school, we (Black Blade and I) proudly present the Northern California Nerf-Off.

*Zombie Dart Tag Game
If you have any stock micro-dart blasters or stock Dart Tag darts that you can donate for the game, that would be very appreciated. PM me please. You will get them back after the game.
If you want to make your own Dart Tag Vests, I have a tutorial here on NerfHaven, and it can be found here. I'll provide the Zombie Dart Tag add-ons for it. If you plan on bringing your own vest, please say so, so I know how many extra add-ons to make. Right now I have 6 vests, which is enough for a small game. I might make more, but I'll be busy, so I wont swear by that.

If you dont have any guns we'll be renting some out for $3.

So far, the list of participants includes myself, Black Blade, and BB's 6-person clan.

Edited to change Rule number 1.
Edited to change Date.

Dart Tag Vests

27 February 2006 - 04:15 AM

I feel kind of stupid posting these, especially after seeing the cool and innovative stuff that other people have come up with. But, I figured some good discussions/ideas could come out of it.

Anyway, I made some Dart Tag vests for a game I am running. I wanted to use the DT system, but didnt want people to have to spend $30+ on the basic set just to get the vests.

I threw these together in about 15 minutes, and so far they work really really well. Im definately going to try to make some nicer ones this week, since my hours were cut at work.

The cloth part is just a rectangle of felt, hole cut for the head, and slits in the side for the buckle mechanism. The buckle/strap part on each side consists of a plastic buckle (Jo-ann fabrics; $2-3), and two 12" sections of strapping. If you know how to thread a buckle, it's pretty self explanitory. I can post a more complete how-to if needed. The felt is easily replacible if it gets torn. One of the best parts about this design is that it requires no sewing what so-ever, for those who hate doing that.

You can also make different temporary add-ons for them, depending on what type of game you are going to play. The game i'm running is a zombie survival horror themed one. If players die, they become zombies and put on white squares. To kill a zombie, you have to hit the white square.

Any (constructive) suggestions on how I can improve them, besides making them not butt ugly?

My Game

02 April 2005 - 02:42 AM

Ive talked about it a couple times on this forum, so I thought I would post a link to the game I've been working on.

The game is called "They Walk Among Us". Its a modern sci-fi Live Action RolePlaying game (LARP). A LARP is basically a roleplaying game in which the players look like and act out what their character is doing, kind of like scenario paintball/airsoft with more depth and an ongoing story. Most LARPs use airsoft, but I decided I wanted to go with Nerf (stock guns and ammo), because its more financially accessible, and I just wanted to try something different. Im currently working on the project by myself, so progress is pretty slow. Im hoping to have the rules ready and playtested by the end of the summer, and run my first event by Halloween.

The story has alot of horror cliche to it, with a few twists. In a nutshell, a virus was discovered that has the ability to bring the dead back to life. The only problem is that the brain's wiring gets messed up during reanimation, and the primary instincts of searching for food and searching out other people gets merged. The dead begin to search out living humans as a source of food.
The reanimated dead also act as a sort of viral factory, producing a non-lethal form of the virus that is spread through the air. So, 99.9% of the living population is infected with the non-lethal version. The only catch to it is when they die, they automatically reanimate.
The game's story line begins a few weeks after all of the rescue stations set up by the government have collapsed, signaling the end of society as we know it. Some people have grouped themselves into encampments, others have formed maurading gangs or death cults.

If you are interested in playing or helping to write the rules, feel free to stop by the forums (they're a little inactive right now). Constructive criticism is always welcome.
