Very Easy Big Blast Modification

06 April 2008 - 05:52 PM

EDIT: Just want to point out, again, that this is a simple modification directed at beginners. I have already moved onto a more advanced mod for it by replacing the barrel.

Well, I just got the Buzzbee Big Blast.

And like I do with about any gun, I first looked to make a simple mod at first and then move onto more difficult mods. I haven't seen a write-up on this, but I think a few people have done it.

EDIT: As the below replies show, this has been done before and I apologize for posting the idea again.

Stuff you need:
Big Blast
Screwdriver
Hacksaw or other implement of destruction

To start off with, open up the gun. You will need to pry off the front orange piece with a flathead screwdriver. Other than that, it's pretty simple.

Then take out the pump/tank/barrel unit.

At the end of the barrel there are 2 holes and an orange piece. Saw off the barrel, right behind the holes.

Screw it back up, and you are done. How easy was that?
I left the orange piece on because I like to keep my guns halfway legal.
The barrel has a slightly larger diameter than medium walled PETG, but fires stefans pretty well.

Range is 55' flat, with a stefan. Also note that the over pressure release valve has not been plugged. It can still shoot the stock missile, about 35-40 ft.

I plan on replacing the barrel and doing other work, but this mod is for the inexperienced modder, or for one that has few materials and tools.

Buzzbee Plungers

24 March 2008 - 11:01 PM

I don't get it, I just don't get it. For some reason all of my BuzzBee plungers are snapping and I don't know what to do. I've glued them back together, but then Either it breaks again, or a different one breaks, or the glue keeps it from cocking at the farthest notch and I end up with half of the power. I've had this happen in my RFR, in one barrel of my doubleshot, and in both of my single teks. I would like to prevent the disease from spreading to my tek 10's.
So has anyone else encountered this problem? And what did you do to fix/prevent it? When I searched I came up with a few things for the crossbow, but I don't think I can fit a metal rod in these small plunger tubes.

Thanks,

Any Tsa Members Out There?

22 March 2008 - 12:06 PM

Well, just like the topic says, shout out if you are a TSA member. About 5 of us in our chapter nerf regularly and we always bring our guns to state and nationals. I know that there probably aren't any of you from Missouri, but I figure that I could maybe find a few of you online and we could get together at nationals. Odds are it will be contained to our hotel rooms or hopefully at a conference room that we can sneak into. Since we will be fighting indoors, limit the amount of firepower you bring. I am talking mainly just nightfinders and mavericks.

And for those of you that don't know, TSA is just a student organization that is involved and competes in technology related events.

Easy Airtech 2k Barrel Replacement

20 March 2008 - 10:25 PM

To start off, I would like to say that after searching I did not see any posts on this, so to the best of my knowledge this hasn't been done before. And this is also my first posted mod.

This week I received my PETG order from OMC. I had ordered mainly thick walled, but I also ordered some medium walled to experiment with. I started replacing barrels on my guns with thick walled, but when I got to my second Airtech 2000, I decided to use the medium walled. I discovered a very unique thing about the medium walled PETG and my Airtech.

EDIT: After extensive testing, I have decided that this is not a viable long term mod. It is good for experimenting, but once you have decided on a barrel length, glue it in and put a coupler on.

What you need:
Airtech 2000
Screwdriver
Medium walled PETG (any length) (I used 2 barrels: a 6" barrel and a 1' barrel)
Electrical tape
Hot glue or other type of glue (only if you want to plug the overrelease valve)
(Told you this would be very easy)

Ok, start off by opening your Airtech, not too difficult.
Then take off the turret.

See the small barrel-type thing that used to attach to your turret? Slide your PETG over it. Perfect fit, right? I'm not talking about the thin long piece, I am talking about the base of it where it widens out. Medium walled PETG is a perfect snug fit over it.
To add stability, wrap E-tape around the end of the skinny tube until it is about the size of the inside diameter of the PETG.

Once you have your E-tape just right, slide your PETG over.

Now plug the over release valve, put it back together, and it's done!

The cool thing about this is that you can replace the barrel without glue and you can even put in different lengths of barrel without opening up the gun.

Now onto what I feel might be a bit controversial.

The ranges that I got with this gun are ridiculous (at least to me) and that is why I am skeptical even myself about them. According to my memory (which isn't that good), I think most airtechs get around 100'. Please correct me if I am wrong. But I got 150 feet.

I tested level, with a streamliner that had been filled with hot glue. It flew very straight, and went about 20' farther than my crappy stefans. There was a small, steady breeze and I fired both with the wind and against the wind. When fired with the wind, they got 170', and when fired against the wind they got 130'. This is how I got the figure of 150'.

I also fired at a mountain dew 12 pack box to test the sheer power of it. I fired 3 stefans into it from 10' away. The BB's in all three broke off and punched right through the first side. One of the BB's actually lodged itself into the other side. This is more power than I have ever seen, but please correct me if this power is standard of a modified airtech.
Here are some pics of the box:

Sorry about the crappy pics

All in all I like the setup and easiness of this mod. It allows for instant changing of barrels and seems to get incredible ranges. Tomorrow I am going to test again and make sure that the ranges are accurate. Please tell me if you think these ranges are reasonable.

Need Help With Split Stock Dart Repair

07 March 2008 - 01:23 AM

I have been having problems recently with my darts breaking/splitting. This mainly occurs in my air powered guns, specifically my airtechs and titan. After a recent war with friends we broke about 20% of our supply. Currently we are using just plain stock darts (taggers, suction cups, whistlers, streamliners, etc.) in cpvc barrels. I feel that the current size of barrels that I use is too small, but I just ordered some PETG from OMC and that should help there. Currently, our stefans haven't been reliable enough to replace our stock darts, so we really need to find a way to repair these.

So, what can I do to repair these shredded darts? Most just have a small rip about a 1/2" long in the middle. I suppose advice on how to avoid this situation would be useful to, but I would like to point out again that we are not ready to completely convert to using stefans and that PETG is on the way.
