DartGirl, I feel like you're missing the point of the DPCI codes existing. They're about supply chain management and monitoring inventory as it moves from distribution to sale floor.
The codes existing tells us that at minimum these blasters are somewhere within the Target supply chain. More than likely, given that they're a few days old, it means that Target has purchased a shipment of Nerf products, including these new blasters, which has now left Shenzhen, China, where most Nerf products are made.
It also provides a way for us as consumers to start looking for them. That's a useful thing. I've got a script hooked into the Target DPCI database (Hooray for web based non-verified APIs) that is checking whether they're available every morning. As they start to hit Target's major distribution centers throughout the US, we'll be able to notice.
In general, I don't understand the anger at having more information? It's not like it costs you anything to know the DPCI codes exist.
