Thanks everyone! I will try all of this stuff, can I ask where y'all get the dye?

As LordGiratia said, you can find vinyl dye at most automotive stores (Advanced Auto Parts, etc.). You may also be able to find automotive vinyl dye in a store such as Walmart/Meijer/etc. depending on the store.

Also how do you use it?

Vinyl dye comes in a spray can... in other words, follow basic spray painting procedures such as applying multiple light coats vs. one heavy coat, etc. etc. You can find plenty of painting tutorials with the proper techniques on YouTube, such as Coop772's painting guide.

Brushless motors spin a lot faster so mor stress would be put on the gears. Also they take a lot less voltage to go fast so you can save some money on batteries. Hope this helps!

More or less, ALL Nerf electronic blasters (flywheel or AEG style like the Stampede)feature brushed (or traditional) motors. For those of you who don't exactly know what a brushed motor is, it is simply your basic motor that comes in small hand held fans, cheap toy cars, etc. So, what's the big difference?

A brushless motor has far less friction compared to a brushed motor; therefore, you will be able to revolve at higher velocities/torque with less heat build up, less friction resistance, and less sound. If you want to know why, Wikipedia is out there for you.

However, in order to even use a brushless motor and reap its benefits, you need an electronic speed control. You can't just replace a brushed motor with a brushless motor and expect it to work like a charm. Though I am not an expert, my father's been tinkering around with RC air planes for quite a while and I can safely tell you that it's simply not possible.

On another note, as an owner of a gear-shredded Stampede, I can also tell you that if your problem is shredded gears, switching motors is NOT going to help. You are going to either want to reduce the load on your gears (ie toning down the voltage, spring, etc.) OR get some custom gears more durable than the Nylon or whatever type of flimsy plastic Hasbro made their gears out of.

Just to clarify, is the black section (of the internals) the air tank? I'm just asking because for the SSPB, the air tank is located where the white "U" shaped section is.

On topic: Just to justify a $70 price, you also need to consider all the labor + materials going into this. You're not just paying for x ounces of stainless steel, but also covering the time and hardware invested into this product.

Off topic: About NSE vs. Longshots: Just look at the plunger volume. Whatever you do to your Retaliator, if you do the same to the LongShot, you will be rewarded with far more.

And if you value a blaster just by some form of a Performance/Cost ratio, that's cool by me, but there are so many other aspects that make a blaster valuable and worthy of being owned. For example, you could go out to the store and buy am awkward BBUMB and have fun making dents in walls or you could spend a lot more on a Crossbow, which may not perform as well for even the hefty price, but is "valuable" in other aspects, such as vintage (collector) value, comfort, aesthetics, sentimental value, etc.

On the other hand, I do understand that for $70 you could buy a lot of fun (or at least 1-2 Longshots).

Would you mind posting a picture of the motor setup on the Stockade? Because of the cited drastic reduction of noise, I'm starting to think that in order to have increased ranges and reduced sound at the same time (while at same voltage levels), they might have a different motor in both the Hailfire and Stockade. I really doubt that just the smooth (un-toothed) flywheels, new darts, and different dart pusher are enough to increase its ranges so much. Perhaps they might even have a brushless motor, but as much as I would hope for that, it's pretty unlikely.
