Plastic primer is available almost anywhere now, and a few layers of Crytal Clear Enamel never hurts(it actually makes it look a lot better). I've found that the Rustoleum Metallics dry really fast and very well, they don't look that bad either. Put a flat coat of gun metal then of silver, scrape the silver a bit whilst still drying with a copper sponge, mmm battle damage.
