First of all, I'd like to say Hi, this is my first post.
I hope I don't seem too ambitious starting a whole new topic, but my searches brought up nothing.

So, here's my problem;
I was looking for something fun to do this summer and I came across an dart from some old Nerf gun and then it hit me. I could have a Nerf war! (a term which I later learned wasn't my original creation). Now before I started meeting local people over the internet, I wanted to know any way to get my friends involved in Nerfing. My main question basically is how am I supposed to approach people in order to get them interested in Nerf without sounding like an obsessed nerd (no offense).

Shoot them with a high powered Nerf gun, like a singled Titan.

They'll think your gun is so cool, they'll want to get one, and pretty soon, you'll be having wars every Saturday.

Give it a try.

I have the same issue but a little different. My friends, two of them, have unmodded nerf guns and they like to have wars but they don't seem to want to mod them. So I have a gun that is shooting 70+ feet and they have some that are shooting 20ft. give or take a little.
Obsessed nerd, that one made me laugh.
NerfFreak, I did that and they thought the gun was freakin sweet but they still aren't modding. :D

To get my friends into the game without thinking of it as childish or stupid, I'd just invite 4 or 5 to my house, and when we had nothing better to do, Id ask them if they wanted to try a nerf war. They'd be a little reluctant at first, but once we got the game going, everyone had a great time. Try this.

Accept the fact that modding Nerf guns is nerdy; therein lies the path to inner peace.

You need to have enough guns to supply a few people to start. If you have a war with 4 people in your basement or backyard, and everyone has a blast, they'll wanna do it again, right? So they'll be coming over next weekend to have a war, and when people ask them what they have on tap for Saturday, they say, I'm going over to Supercraft 99's house to have a nerf war.
Nerf war? What's that?
You shoot each other with these nerf guns supercraft99 has that are really powerful, its fun.
Can I come?
Sure, but make sure you bring the French Fries and Gravy.

That's how things get started.

I got my friends into it just by having my guns around and working on them all the time, and pretty soon they just asked "What's a nerf gun?"

And thus was born the Nerd Squad.
(so no, since my clan is called the Nerd Squad, I don't take offense to that :D)

Pretty much just casually introduce it to them and if they're interested, they'll ask questions; if they're not, they won't. Then go ahead and invite them all over at once for a war. And yes, having enough guns is a good thing.

The way my clan started out was a bunch of my friends bought Mavericks and had a nerf war. So tell your friends about this, invite them to come to a war, and then go from there.

My clan started with three or four people shooting each other across a dorm room for fun. No winners, losers or even a tally of who hit whom how often.

Now we have around 30 people in the clan and have pretty regular wars during the school year.

I've found that an effective strategy is to buy extra guns to loan out, and then sell those extras to people who tend to use them more frequently. I crept up to thirteen guns at one point, sold all but four or five, and now I'm back up to thirteen to fifteen. There will be another sale once school starts back up.

This is exactly what I did.

I started modding guns and shooting my friends and they would get pissed and leave. Then next time 2 of them came back and wanted to shoot at me. So then I showed them my LBB and how far it could shoot. They then fell in love. And just 2 days ago I was tellin' my other friends and they said to me thats so fucking nerdy. So I said oh yeah? Come to my house check out my longshot. They saw my awesome paintjob and screamed HOLY SH**! So I have about 6-8 people just in my town from just this year. Hope to have more to have assassin my senior year.

Hell, sometimes unmodded guns are enough. Just attacking my friend with my day old love child....err...maverick got him to go out and buy one the next day. This spawned an outbreak of "Nerfy Goodness" amongst my friends. As it's been stated, peoples reaction's are gonna be along the lines of "What the hell man? Nerf guns, those are for like 6 year olds." The answer, promptly hand them a gun and let them play for ten minutes. The usual response is them looking worried at Wal-Mart the next day buying a NF silently praying their girlfriend's are home watching TV. Perhaps I'm being to specific...

Summing it up, usually people treat Nerf guns with puzzled reactions at first, but the outcome is usually along the lines of monthly (or whenever) wars.

Good luck.

I always liked nerf guns when I was little, but I didn't know the name for it. So my friend got some and told me about it and I went to Toys R Us and bought it. I didn't think it was nerdly because I was only 12 when I got my first nerf gun (a Maverick by the way).

When I got out of nerfing for a few months, I invited a new friend over and he randomly took one of my nerf guns and shot me... that started a small nerf war and got me back into finishing my homemade... which I still haven't finished! I haven't worked on it in a couple months...

Nick. First off I'd advise you to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation as can all be seen here. And my brother and I can definatley come. Lets move this to private messages to not flood the boards though.

*PS* I forgot to tell you this is one of the few people I have (recruited) in my town he is my brother's best friend.

My friends don't nerf or do mods all the time like I do. but they are supportive about what I do. They are my REAL friends that don't car what I do. But on occasion, they say you have too much time on my hands or say go fix your bike. So it's all good.

Yeah. My friends are the same way. At first they were like dude what the fuck are you doing to that thing? And I would explain to them I'm modifying it. They would be like wow how the hell did you figure that out. So I would tell them about this site. And I would tell them to look at the Modification/Paintjob Thread. The next day or so they would all bring NF's, FF's, and DTG's to my house to mod them for them. Now when I "recruit" people I hand them a NF and my at2k. They play with me and my friends and see how fun it is. Then it keeps going on and on.

I started by modifying what guns I had on hand and showing them off to my friends... this intrigued them, and we started having Nerf wars... with me providing all the guns and ammo.

Now I charge for loosing my ammo, providing an incentive to make their own or not loose it (which was my major pet peeve). Those that didn't get or have their own guns got a stock Nitefinder from me and a 45 minute lesson on how to modify it.

I'm liking what a lot of you guys are saying. It seems like so many people come on the forums and post asking if people in their area are having wars, which is so ass backwards. The days when your buddies stage a raid on your house to get you back for shooting them when they walked in the other day were hilarious.

I tried showing Nerf to two of my friends. One of my friends picked up on it and enjoys it almost as much as I do. My other friend calls it gay and sticks with paintball (He's a HUGE Mil-Sim guy).

So, really, it's all in your friends preferance, show nerf to them and let them decide if it's cool or not.
