nerfer - Ok, let me get this straight, you have Zoolander in your top 5 as well as Happy Gilmore(I like it, but it's not a great movie) and you're critiquing others on their picks, which actually won awards worth mentioning? I'm not going to say that there are no good movies that didn't win Oscars, but come one, get centered.
Flurry - Same goes for you - Harry Potter, Napoleon Dynamite?

It's not personal guys, but none of those four movies surpass The Pianist. It's not on my top 5, but it's for sure above those 4.

This is a very tough decision for me and may need to be edited many times:

1) Charlie Chaplin and Lon Chaney films(My two favorite black and white stars. A lot of their movies are two short to really consider movies. Plus, I don't have any particular favorites.)
2) Citizen Kane
3) The Shawshank Redemption
4) The Last King of Scotland
5) The Boondock Saints

Edit: Shit, I guess I have to go 6

I was dubbed Rambo by Talio because of how I acted at my first war. Looking back, it wasn't really that Rambo-esque though...I had about a dozen guns each round and I didn't get many kills. Rambo usually has few weapons and kills everyone.

P.S: Napolean Dynamite was the stupidest ( I know it's not a word but it has to be used here, anyone agree?) Movie. The whole movie is stupid and honestly the movie raters gave it like 2 stars out of 5.

The Pianist on the other hand won like 4(?) academy awards? Therefor Proving better right off the bat.

My list of favorite movies is several pages long so I'll just pick 5 obscure ones.

1) Rosencrantz and Gildenstern Are Dead
2) Ikiru
3) The Best Years of Our Lives
4) The Lost Battalion
5) Tuskegee Airmen

I would like to point out that this is AN OPINION THREAD. You might as well try to argue with someone that their favorite flavor is not Vanilla or that their favorite kind of dog should be Labrador Retrievers. Just because a movie won awards doesn't mean it correlates to being great or being worthy of being someones favorite movie.

I've never seen The Pianist or Napolean Dynomite, so I can't say if either is really good or not.
In no order, my top 5 movies would probably be:
1) V for Vendetta
2) Talladega Nights
3) Zoolander
4) Happy Gilmore
5) I have no idea what would be the 5th... Too many to choose from... (Date Movie, Naked Gun, The Prestige, Ocean's 11...)
I'm just going to keep it at top 4.

3, and interestingly enough, the director Roman Polanski won, even though he has been a fugitive of the US since 1978.

Um... Er... I'd have to say me.

Napolean Dynamite was as lame as shit (even though my dog's looks pretty muscular). I had to turn it off after 30 minutes because of how ridiculously stupid it was. I couldn't even force my self to look at it after that. Don't take it personally, though. Some of my friends think it is "the greatest thing since twinkies" (honestly, they taste like chicken).

On topic, I don't watch that many movies, so I'm goign to have to think about it and get back to you,

Ok, Oscars aren't always the final determinant whether a movie is good or bad, a lot of the best movies don't even get nominated. But, generally, I think that if a popular film that doesn't get any nominations, it's generally a bad sign for that film. I mean, one of my favorite directors(top 3 for sure), Kubrick has never won an Oscar for directing. Something which I think was truly unjust.

But if it's based on personal opinions, I can say Zoolander sucks, right?

Also, you are obviously very stunted in your movie knowledge. I guess I can't blame you for not knowing Chaney and Chaplin, some of the older members' parents weren't alive when they were acting, but:
Citizen Kane(1941, not a reason you shouldn't have seen it, or at least heard of it) - no. 1 on AFI top 100, and no. 23 on IMDb's top 250
The Shawshank Redemption(1994)- Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins - no. 2 on IMDb's Top 250 movie list
Kubrick - Stanley Kubrick, director of Full Metal Jacket, Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Spartacus, The Shining, and at least 10 other good movies
The Last King of Scotland(2006) - Forrest Whitaker gives the performance of a lifetime perfecting Idi Amin's tyranny(won Best Actor for said performance)
The Boondock Saints(1999) - Willem Dafoe, Billy Connolly - I don't think many people that have seen it would argue against it being one of the greatest action films

Looking back on what I've just written, I realize you might not know many of the actors I used to defend those movies, or Kubrick's movies. I can only hope your tastes will mature one day...

They don't have to be funny to entertain you. Don't you like action? I agree that many dramas aren't that entertaining, but I also believe drama, as a whole, is a greater genre than comedy.

The Shawshank Redemption entertains me time after time. Once, I watched it 3 times, back-to-back-to-back and it didn't get old.

And your age comment shouldn't be an excuse either, I'm only 16.

Oh, I forgot about Saving Private Ryan, that's a great movie.

1.) Star Wars: The Original Trilogy
2.) Ocean's Eleven (The remake)
3.) Star Wars: The Prequels
4.) The Count Of Monte Cristo (the newer one, never saw the old one)
5 [Tie].) V for Vendetta, & Transformers: The Movie (the first one)

Also, as far as major awards making somethoing a good movie, that's just not the case for me. I find that many of the movies I love get mediocre to bad reviews, and no awards, while many that I don't like get praise and tones of Oscars, Academy Awards, etc.

Which is not to say that none of the above movies got any awards. In fact, I know that at least Star Wars: Episode IV did. But many other movies in my top 10 (or 15 or 20, etc.), have received no awards or are even regarded as bad movies by many people.
