[Axelion burnout]

The Manta Ray is one of the coolest offensive raiding weapons I have ever seen, with its build in shield and barrage of four darts at once it is something to be scared of.

This modification is really easy, all you need is.

1. Manta Ray
2. Phillips Screwdriver
3. x4 Crayola Barrels or 1/2inch PVC
4. Duct Tape

The first part of this is for anyone who wants to stretch their springs in it or replace them with new ones...

So if all you want to do is make it shoot micros relatively well, you do NOT need to open it up!

First off flip it over and take out all 5 of the screws on the bottom.


Then you want to flip it back over to the top and take out the 2 screws that are hidden under the stickers.

Set the shell aside for now...

Remove the remaining 3 screws that are on the topside of the grip.


Here is the part where you can take out the plungers and stretch your spring or replace them if you want to... i prefer not to, but thats just me.


Alright... this is the part that does not require any disassembly, so if you already took the Manta Ray apart to stretch the springs you now need to put it all back together... Horray!

Now you need to go and make 4 Crayola Barrels ( i wrapped mine in E-Tape, for the looks), at the skinny(non business end) of the Crayola Barrel you need to wrap it with enough Duct Tape to make it about 2 millimeters wider than it already was...


Now, heres the complicated part, literally jam the end of the Crayola Barrel with Duct Tape into each barrel on the Manta Ray. You really want to put these in here tight, and if you desire you can add a ring of glue around the barrel before shoving it in there.

Or you can cut the PVC to 4-5 inches and glue those into the Manta Ray... but i did the Crayola Barrels(ran out of PVC)


Thats it! SUPER EASY!!



And as for the ranges(not spring stretched, firing one dart, stock micro suction) oh and a slight tail wind.

1. 50
2. 47
3. 45
4. 51
5. 48

Average: 48.2 Feet

Eh, not bad... considering the fact that this is more of a raiding weapon it should do just fine!

Very nise mod you might want to (re enforce <----cant spell.) the internals manta rays have been know to brake easly. I dont know exactly what parts break easy but hopefully someone will post them.
I think its the plunger tubes and catchs.----Sean

Nice write up.

I modded my Manta Ray in a very similar fashion. Instead of Crayola barrels I simply took four sections of 4-5" CPVC and hot glued them into place. Same results, but a higher distance average. About 58+' average compared to the 48'. Not bad at all.

HAHA... yeah I would have done that but I really didn't want to run to the hardware store on a holiday weekend, and I just used a crap load of CPVC on my SM3K Blue, which will be the next write up that I plan to be making!! I know, excuses, excuses...

Nice mod, You may want to try making the seal between the plunger tubes and barrels better becasue its not airtight. The part that breaks easily is the orange plunger rod, which is where mine broke. I would reommend reinforncing them with metal strips.

Is the plunger rod something that breaks on its own? or is it something that if I had stretched my springs it would have a greater chance of breaking?

I honestly just got this from my friend yesterday, so I'm not really worried about it right now because it was just sitting in his closet, never really got any wear and tear.

The plunger rod breaks because of the stress on it when cocking the gun. The two rods are not very strong and can bend or break if you drop the gun while its cocked. Just be care with it and you should be fine. Its much easier to reinforce now then after they break.

I would add a new spring instead of stretching the ones that come in the gun. Stretching eventually makes the gun perform worse, because it weakens the structure of the spring. Also, if you want looks, go out and find some Kyrlon (sp) Fusion Paint. They usually stock it at local hardware stores, i got mine at lowes. Anyways, point is, it looks better than electrical tape, it costs less than 15 dollars, and it fuzes (hence the name) to plastic and doesn't flake off. It's nice stuff i tells ya

Couldn't you add another spring on the bothe sides of the plungers to increase ranges too?

Also, don't use crayola barrels. they instantly add at least forty tacky points to your gun. The same thing goes for tape.

Dude, Crayola's and E-tape work really well. I'd rather have a gun that kicks alot of ass and looks like shit, than a gun that looks amazing and performs like shit. What ever floats your boat. Back to the mod. Awesome job, clear write up. I did the same thing to my manta ray about 3 months ago. Good Job.

But crayola barrels taper, so they DON'T perform as well as a tight PVC barrel. And E-tape will never be as good as glue, not ever.

as far as the mod goes, the manta was my introduction to nerf, so seeing it modded haphazardly kind of hurts. It's the right idea, but if you're serious, you should put a little more time into it.

This was my first write up dude... i was just doing something simple that even the beginning Nerfers can pull off. The only reason i didn't do PVC barrels was because i didn't have time to run to the store, and I was exited about modding this gun. I believe I mentioned that... I do plan to add PVC to it in due time though, thanks for the comments, i will take them into consideration on my next write up.

All I can say is that i'm trying to give people some ideas on how to mod their gun... they don' t have to do it exactly the same as mine.

I guess i sounded a little harsh, my bad. I was more trying to explain that the reason i was being so harsh in the first place was that I liked the gun so well to begin with. The writeup istlef was good, my comments about the crayola and markers were more for other people reading the thread later on. The problem i have with electrical tape is that in order to make it flat you have to stretch it a bit, and it ends up being a stick mess. And everyone knows that sticky messes are bad.
