I have read some of the topics about the Crossfire, but I'm not sure I completely understand all of the terminology and the abbreviations that the nerf community uses.

My question is how to successfully enhance to gun. So far I have added a Maverick spring to the stock and now the pin between the slider is bending and the gun is extremely hard to cock. Also I'm not completely sure how to remove the air restrictors (i hear their removal increases range) or even what they look like. Furthermore, I'd to know if anyone could link me to a Crossfire modification page that involves basic house hold items and would exclude things I'd have to buy.

From the NerfHaven Modification Directory, under "Crossfire," comes this: A minimization and barrel replacement with minimal materials.

Not mentioned there is sticking pennies behind the spring for a little more power. Any more than three and it becomes extremely hard, if not impossible to cock.

I just cut the back of the air restrictor piece off, so I was left with an orange ring with an O-ring on it, and glued a CPVC barrel to that.

Well, about the metal pin thing, drill a hole through the places where it sits and put a fairly strong thick nail in there. For the air restrictor, I took it out kinda riskyly: I cut about a centimeter up from the O ring, took out the peg and air restrictor, the hot glued and ducktaped the o ring thing back on, but I think there are better ways to take out the air restrictors.

I'm still confused on the benefits of removing the ammo holder on the Crossfire. Also what is a zip tie? Is there an alternative to it?

It makes it easyer to put in a pocket or holster, zip ties are those plastic things that sometimes hold nerf guns in the package, like they have a little loop on one end and then you put the other end through it and it stays.

You're kidding. You don't know what a zip tie is?

Ask anyone who installs stereos in cars, or an electrician or tech geek. The zip ties are those plastic things used to bundle wires together, held by a tiny ratcheting buckle that holds the tie together. In the case of the aforementioned compact mod, the zip-tie is going to be used as a cocking loop in lieu of the normal slider and the pin you had mentioned as bending on you.

I myself also installed a Maverick spring in addition to the stock Crossfire spring. That's about all the performance you'll want to squeeze out from the Crossfire, from the "tension and boost" department. The cocking pin on mine isn't bending (yet), but that could be because I'm still doing some R&D on it, and haven't really wrung it out in a Nerf warring situation.

If you decide on a barrel modification, read the instructions carefully. The outside plunger sleeve design means that the stock barrel, the end of it, is the primary support for the barrel within the frame. I cut off a little too much, and ended up with a barrel that flew out of the weapon. I ended up bonding a 1/2" CPVC coupler as a strong point for the barrel to be mounted on the Crossfire frame. Here's a picture.




About the ammo holders, the only thing I can think of is that removal makes the Crossfire overall easier to stash in a pocket (unless you have cargo pants, which can hold just about any pistol), and for the people who insist on trying to make their Nerf weapons look more "real", removing the ammo holder makes the profile look slimmer and more "gun-like".

Me? I prefer the ammo holders...although this blaster is a bit small for my hands, it's fun to have a fairly powerful blaster in a neat little package.

I wrote this article back in 2004, after reading about so many broken blasters after modification. It should serve as fair warning for the younger ones and newer modifiers about fixing up blasters and the consequences thereof. It's just a part of what we do.

I have not been able to get it to stay on for a long period of time but..... i attached a nf plunger rod to the cf plunger. I bought this stuff called Power poxy to attach them for good, its specifically for plastic.

I was thinking of doing that to me broken mav. Also, is there any signs of it breaking off?
