Turns out my first custom-wound spring was made with the wrong kind of wire.
Lesson learned, but I don't really have time to order new wire and wind another right now. I have researched how it might be possible for me to mold my own high capacity magazines. But it's something I will attempt at a much later date. Because frankly making one using the method I listed in this thread is really easy to do if you take your time and use the right tools.

So Captain, is there a special type of wire to use for custom made springs? It would save alot of us time if we used the right wire, instead of using a half-ass spring and replacing it after a few months.

Try going to a gunstore near you and buy some ak47 mags real cheap (I can get crapola ones for like 5 bucks) for the spring inside and for a case from an ak mag. Might come in use in the later future. I plan to save some money up and buy a few mags when I ever get successful design plans for a drum clip.

I used .033" black oxide coated steel wire when I should have use .033" stainless steel spring temper wire. To make a spring you need wire with the right hardness.

Unless you know for a fact that it will fit in and work as a replacement for the longshot mag spring, don't post this as a suggestion.

I cant express enough how important it is for you to cut the two clips using a good tool. I just tried this with a hacksaw and It's impossible for me to align the two enough to get it to work.

Theres a very simple way to fix the badly cut clip. It involves attaching 4 strips of brass, 2 on each side. The strips force the clips to line up perfectly. Ill post pictures tomorrow if needed.

Or you could just give the clip a little squeeze to advance it if it is uneven.

Blasphemy. I think you need to throw yourself against a wall, drive to store and buy yourself a brain.

i thought of another way 2 make the clip better. u put it on top of the gun so gravity feeds it but u hav an opening on both top and bottom. the bottom opening is 4 the darts 2 actually go in 2 the barrel. the top is so u can load darts into the clip without taking the entire clip out. u can just pick up darts and put them in the clip. idk how it would work with the bolt sticking out at the top. i didnt want 2 try this out on my own cuz the only mods ive ever done is adding rubber bands 2 stuff

1. Your post quality is terrible and trying to decipher what the hell you were saying was painful.
2. Your idea is crap since you obviously haven't examined how the parts interact. The hardpoint for pulling the bolt back is on the top of the bolt and makes it impossible to load from the top of the gun.

If you don't know what you're talking about, then don't say anything.

It's only easy if you have a table saw. Otherwise it can be difficult.

I have a question Cap. Slug. I have this Spray trim Adhesive and was wondering if I can use that. I mean, I can allways reenforce the clip with anything else from outside the clip. I wanna use this glue spray because it has a better chance of not leaving a seem on the inside. Also, could you show me what kind of washers, bolts and nuts you used.

Thanks

No. You need a structural adhesive like super glue (cyanoacrylite) or a solvent adhesive like IPS Weld-on #3. If you use either of those and have squarely cut halves you won't even be able to tell that the pieces were not originally molded as one unit.

I just used short #6-32 screws, #8 washers, and #6-32 hex nuts.

Its OK. I instead used something thats like a cross-breed of a glue gun and a soldering tool. I basically melted the two parts together and used the same raw plastic to reenforce it. I'll get pictures later.

Does it blow hot air out from a small tip, and have another to feed a thin rod through? Sounds like a plastic welder, but not sure for certain. I've been looking to buy one for some time now, but they're expensive. Post some pictures of it if you can.

Yes thats exactly what it is. Though its kinda hard welding the pieces without making a dent on the inside of the rail. I ask my fater to do it since he knows how to control the tool better than me. I leaves the clip strudy but ugly. Tape should cover it.

Hey CaptainSlug I do have access to a table saw but I would like to know what sort of blade I should be using to avoid sending my mags halfway across the room or even worse cutting off a finger.

Plywood/OSB/Plastic/Veneer blades work best. The 180 or 200 tooth count ones.

I hate to bump old topics but I feel like what I have to say may help some people: To make your own springs harder to bend, put it in some boiling water for a couple minutes and drop it in some icy water with some tongs. let it get to room temperature and repeat as necessary. Now the wire will be less bendy.

Hope I helped someone.

EDIT: Damn. Didn't see those posts. I guess this is a mini write-up know. Apologies.
PS: If someone could tell me how to delete my posts that would be great cause I keep making stupid mistakes like this.
