Bond movies aren't successful for their merit as great film. If I want to see a great film, I'm going to go for American Beauty, Schindler's List, or anything Shakespeare with Kenneth Branaugh. Bond is successful because it's entertaining. The 007 franchise invloves lots of innuendo and action. The opening chase scene is amazing, the dialogue is witty, the plot is plausible, but it's full of anachronisms. I didn't go to Casino Royale expecting a glimpse into the secret life of British spies any more than I expected a realistic view of Greek warfare from Troy I went for a good fight, and there's plenty of that in Casino Royale.

I enjoyed it, but it takes some suspension of disbelief.

There werent enough 'blow your mind away' gadgets in this bond movie though...
'cept for the car :P ... the car was sweet!
I know that this movie was suposed to be more realistic but come on! Secret gadgets are one of the coolest parts of the bond movies.

Seeing as this was the BEGINNING of the bond character, their are no gadgets, I think that makes senses.

Cole, if your mother is THAT werry of you seeing these types of movies, then the second she sees Eva Green in the very begining of the movie...you won't be going.

It's not that sex oriented...it's just the essense of it. I feel it to not be suitable for a less mature odience...but you seem mature enough for it.

Ronster,

Plenty of "good" movies kick "some ass".

It is the "great" movies that kick all kinds of ass.

I didn't say anything different in my two posts. I gave credit where credit was due but the movie itself could have been better I think.

Okay.

Sorry, Evil. I understand now.

I also felt the lack of secret gadgets was a bit dissapointing, but I soon realized that this is the first Bond. So, he doesn't have access to all the neat gadgets until he is more experienced with his job.
As for anachronisms, this wasn't supposed to be placed in the 40s or whatever, they just did the first Bond story in modern times. It's not supposed to link with all the other Bond movies. That's what makes each Bond movie unique; that when it has a new actor or new director, it takes a different approach.

Personally, I thought this one was the best. Argue with me as much as you want, but my mind is not changing.

I liked this movie, it was very good and fresh.
I have seen all of the bond movies (even Never say never and the british Casion Royale) and I have read all of Ian's books and I would say that this bond is the closest to what the books are like.
I can't wait till the next one.

I actually liked how there were no laser watches, coin bombs, or super cars (the car was normal unless you consider a tray with a gun in it as a gadget). It took the focus away from the tech and on to the characters and story.

Saw it last weekend...and on the return to school, all I had to say to start conversation on this movie was "Too the right! Yes!"

Don't wanna give too much away, but that had to be the funniest part of the movie.

All the tension was aimed in the beginning and end of the movie really. And isn't this supposed be apout a casino hince the name "Casino Royale"? Why did the casino part not be edgy? He was out of the game for what seemed should have been the best part. I was very dissapointed. I expected x-ray eyed disqualification and cards other than Aces and Kings for peet sake.

I guess I give it credit for "Too the right!"

The parkour part in the beginning was awesome. Bond got owned pretty bad by one of the founders of parkour. The only bad part about the scene was the editing. The landings and some other stunts were cut where they shouldn't have been (in my opinion) since it make the stunts look a little on the fake side.

All hail precision jumping and Nike shoes!

I saw it today and it was great. Just one question what happened to his balls in the torture scene? He got hit there but what were the effects?

He was in a wheel chair for a few weeks/days (unknown due to passage of time in the movie) after being bed ridden for some time.

I'm guessing weeks but probably months.

My dad is a doctor and he told me once about a hockey player who had been wearing a nutcup and a hocky puckhit him down there. The puck shattered the cup and kept going.the nut cup had to be surgically removed, he was in the hospital for almost three months. He wont be able to have kids.

Being in the hospital for only a couple of days after taking a significant shot to the testes is improbable.

Well, that's good for Bond, meaning he won't really have to fully commit because of kids. Hehe.

Not sure about the rest of you but it felt for me like quite some time had passed between the torture scene and when he was back in action. Considering how much his character developed and his intimacy with the lady-friend grew. Bless her heart for sticking with him through that ordeal. Bond must have an 8 inch cock or something.

That was simply incredible. I, and half of the audience, actually "lol'ed" at that. Just the image of the guy jumping through that little hole and then having Bond just slam through a wall was awesome.

IT was a pretty sweet movie buy it wasnt a James bond movie as it ignored the two rudamentry rules:

1.THE SONG- The theme song was not Casino Royale it was "do you know my name" or something lame like that, and a woman with an opera talent octave range did not sing it.

2.LOVE- Jame Bond DOES NOT FALL IN LOVE, I cannot state that any simpler.

But other than that it was pretty sweet evenb though I totally called the winning hand card for card. Although I still think he should have won with aces and eights. The villain was freakin sweet to say the least, he CRIED BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

The song was "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell. Hands down one of the most talented rock singers ever. Cornell has a range thats un-fucking-real. Check out some of his older Soundgarden tracks, its obscene what he can do. It's a pretty badass Bond theme song I thought.

I can't bieleve everybody liked this movie.. not to bring up old topics but it was a HUGE dissapointment. The first problem is theres no gadgets.. and you might say because hes the first bond, but I don't care I think there should be at least one. The action is violient, I dont see bond as being voilent, i see him as using his gadgets and gun to get out of things. Secondly, the whole movie was based on a poker game.. not saving the world, not stoping some virius, not saving everybody from nuclear fallout. The whole movie was based on not letting some guy win a poker game.. who writes this stuff?. Thirdly, They didnt use the bond music intel the end of the movie on the credits. And the ending didnt make sense at all, he shot some guy, it ends.. woohoo!.
