Go see it. Now. It has to be my new favourite Bond movie. Daniel Craig is simply incredible.

Bonds in order of Awesomeness
1. Craig
2. Connery
3. Moore
4. Brosnan
5. Dalton
6. Lazenby

Awesome movie, however, the Poker scenes sucked, they were not intense or exciting.

1. Craig is not as good of a Bond as Lancaster would lead you to believe. You can't rate someone as the best ever when they've only stared in one Bond movie.

2. The poker scene could have been better. For example, that was asking for a celebrity cameo, Phil Ivey anyone?

3. The jury is still out on whether or not if its acceptable to re-invent the Bond character every time there is a new actor.

4. What did Brosnan do to get booted?

Boom comes the truth...

1. Craig is not as good of a Bond as Lancaster would lead you to believe. You can't rate someone as the best ever when they've only stared in one Bond movie.

You can rate someone as the best Bond ever when every other actor to take on the role has been mediocre. When Daniel Craig was cast as Bond he was immediately the best actor to take on the role, and with this movie he is burdened with a Bond first; depth. This is the first Bond movie that paints 007 as a dynamic and ruthless hitman as well as human being. Before he was a cheap laugh in a nice suit with incredible luck, a gun he didn't use enough, one liners that came all too frequently, and the formulaic tough but sweet Bond girl.

2. The poker scene could have been better. For example, that was asking for a celebrity cameo, Phil Ivey anyone?

For an individual with passive or casual knowledge of the game itself it can't be said that the scenes were particularly bad. They serve the purpose of directing the story accordingly and considering that much of the story focuses elsewhere, it shouldn't be a surprise that the poker scenes were not gruelingly crafted by the director.

3. The jury is still out on whether or not if its acceptable to re-invent the Bond character every time there is a new actor.

I'd say Moore and Connery played the same guy. I haven't seen the first film with George Lazenby. Dalton played a darker Bond but at the same time the movies he was in were so ridiculously over the top that his more brooding Bond was inherently more comical due to his enemies. Brosnan played a decent Bond, I feel one of the most well rounded. I think the problem isn't with Bond being reinvented, its just that a movie franchise that spans 20 films is certainly going to see different writer, directors, and actors leave their mark on the films. It's more than the actor that defines Bond.

4. What did Brosnan do to get booted?

Pretty involved story with this, I'll break it down best as possible. After the last film Brosnan did, "Die Another Day" (I think that was it), Brosnan wanted a new angle for Bond. He felt that the films were formulaic and weak. Their was an edginess that needed to be added in order to make the films more entertaining and bankable.

This is where Quentin Tarrantino gets involved. He proposes a cheap, dark, action oriented spy thriller that will be grounded and more personal than Effeminate. Tarrantino's pet-Bond-project is shot down ultimately.

Brosnan, upset with the fact that a well-known independent director proposed to the studio exactly what he wanted and was denied, drops the Bond franchise accordingly instead of playing the soulless Brit in what would have been another boring Bond film.

There's some rumor as to whether or not Batman Begins fits in during all of this. Considering director Christopher Nolan's take on the Batman and his reinvention of that franchise, followed by immense success, it seemed to some that reinventing Bond in much the same way (grounded, dark) would help "jump start" the stale franchise.

I guess what works for Batman works for Bond.

*Sorry I shredded your post Shindig, but that's the first time I ever have!

In real life Charlton Heston wouldn't shoot you. He would render you unconcious after bludgeoning you with his mace-like set of testicles. Fear Heston. Respect Heston. The Ten Commandments isn't the best movie of all time, but it's worth watching once at least.

I saw that last weekend. I thought it was really good. And I agree that Daniel Craig was a really good Bond.
I didn't think the poker scenes were that bad. They could've been better, but they didn't make you fall asleep or anything. But overall, I'd really recommend watching it.

If by almost 60 you mean he is 53 years old and is in better shape than most 40 year old men, then yes, you are correct. -_-

I personally think Brosnan looks younger than Craig.

I'm not a big Bond guy, but for one he's only 53. Anyway, I think he didn't do any of his stunts. I could be wrong on that, but I'm pretty sure the most he did was jump 15 feet and land on some grass or whatever light stuff he didn't puss out of.

I was practically sweating in my seat, fingers tightly gripping the armrests, and cringing at the whole interigation scene.
Just watching that alone made my balls hurt.

Holy Crap! I never knew Brosnan was that old! I liked Brosnan, but Craig's Bond is so much more in-depth.

I immediately thought of Batman Begins (another excellent movie) after seeing Royale, two very similar re-booting methods with similar results.

With the last couple Brosnan movies, especially Die Another Day, things were just getting boring. No character depth, a ridiculous plot, and the same old stereotypical Bond. The Bond series either needed to die (no pun intended) or be reborn. I'm glad it was the latter.

I still want that sweet brief case, complete with smoke and throwing dagger.

You, my friend, have nothing to contribute to this thread. Insult your opponent's opinion, not your opponent (that's called a logical fallacy).

You know that it's rated PG-13 right? Either that, or you have some seriously restrictive parents.

That was one of THE most grusome kinds of torture (Of course that weren't in Saw) that I have ever seen. That said that ended up being one of the funniest things in the movie. The ending scene rocked too. They finally ended one of the Bond movies right.

I am 14, but my mom (Geddon goers) is really touchy. If it is PG-13 or higher she has to see it first before I can watch it. Still haven't seen Waterboy. Other than that I can only watch movies that are rated PG-13 or R if they are rated that for violence, and thats all.

Hmmm. If I recall correctly, there really isn't anything innapropriate language wise in the movie. The "nudity" is the sides of Daniel Craig's legs during the torture scene. I took my 10-year-old brother with me for crying out loud.

That sucks for you Cole, my parents let me see The Terminator when I was seven... And no negative side effects yet (looks at blood on hands), nope. But really, Royale is not that bad at all, although the bathroom fight scene at the beginning is satisfiable brutal.

One gripe I have about this film is the pacing. It has lots of tense moments but the real action sequences occur at the beginning and end of this film. The in between is a mish-mash of intense scenes and unecessary downtime. Good overall but not great.

A lot of stuff in this post *deep breath*-
1. Is there anything sexual in the movie?
2. Is it worse (sex based) than the other bonds?
3. If no to #2, than what about compared to Die Another Day?
4. There is another movie with "James Bond" in it that is called Casino Royal.
5. The old Casino Royal was british and a spoof of other bonds, but the plot was similar (from what I've read on the net).
6. The old Casino Royal wasn't bad, (Miss Good Thighs).

Okay.... That is pretty much it for a while.

2. No
3. Not as sexual.
4. Sure.
5. Yes, is this a question?
6. I haven't seen it.

Two things. This movie should have been rated R. The violence is serious, especially at the end, there's some pretty vivid scenes and other scenes where certain acts are merely implied. As for the sex, I thought this was definitely the most straight-forward Bond movie when it comes to the content. No, you don't see anything, bu their is the ocassional light romp and skin shown. No breasts, butts or wang, but the overt nudity is made up for with clever dialogue implying sexual activity and some carefully placed bed sheets in a scene or two.

This movie kicked some ass.
