Well, I was doing some mods to my LS in hopes of making it an extreme nerf gun, but instead I ended up almost exploding the thing.
Let’s take a little tour first.
1. New O-rings
2. Restrictor removal
3. Copper Barrel*
4. Improved breach
Here is what it looks like from the outside

Posted Image

The back stock is missing, because I have had it open way too many times in the last month, and haven’t put it back on for ease of opening it again.
It looks much better with it on.
The holes in the barrel are to compensate for the spinning dart problem some people were having.
It aids in the dissipation of any extra force before dart ejection.

Then, here is what happened on the inside.

I didn't have it completely opened up at the time I took pics. So many screws. If you happen to notice, the parts with the red arrows should be connected. Unfortunately they are not. The carriage separated from the breach making it impossible to cock the gun.
I was trying to mod the end of the bolt to fit flush with my brass barrel. In doing so, I believe I had cut too much off the part at the top, in combination with two way overpowered springs, causing it to separate.
I was trying to improve on the design below by adding an o-ring

So now, I have a very broken LS and no clue as to how to fix it. I have tried gluing what’s left of the bolt nub back on twice with no success. I am thinking about now hacking part of bolt off to replace it with something the same size made of metal and sturdier, giving it a more solid connection to the carriage, but I’m not sure what materials to use to create a bolt and connection nub like seen above.
If anyone has a suggestion on how to get these back together, or a different way to cock the gun, feel free. I’m open for suggestions, and can answer any questions or post any more pictures necessary.

Thats what I got so far, lets see what you have.

*good call, I didnt really think about it.

Looking at it now, my picture looks so dodgy compared to what mt LS actually looks like now.
I would've used an O-Ring myself if it didn't need to be so precise for it to seal properly. By using foam or Neoprene, the whole seal can squash up against the barrel and seal properly.
While I was doing my mod, I was being very cautious of how much I played with the bolt, because I knew this sort of thing would happen. To fix it, I would suggest putting two steel pins (1mm wide) through the top into the bolt and gluing it. You can try epoxy, but I think superglue would do fine. A piece of advice I would give would be to combine a steel or aluminium bolt/reinforcement with the glue, never just the glue on its own - always. If not, then just as often as you can.

Also, have you replaced the spring? It seems very unusual that the bolt broke with a stock spring.
But yes, anyone who has done a modification similar to this, I would recommend you reinforce that carrier immediately, for peace of mind. It's not absolutely necessary if you haven't reaplced the spring, but this is the one flaw in modification of the longshot - just like the Crossbow's plunger rod.

That barrel doesn't look like brass, I think it's just copper. That barrel is incredibly long - does it work/how far does it shoot? Unless you have nested brass inside that copper, I can't think of anything else.

It looks cool. like a Sn1per rifle. As for your LS broken parts, i don't know you may have buy another one too bad there kindof pricey.

As to the broken piece, Epoxy is the only thing that I know of that would be strong enough to fix that. You can get some JB Weld at a HomeDepot, Lowes, AceHardware, or where ever you got that pipe for the barrel. It'll cost anywhere from $2-$10, depending on where you get it, but it's better than spending $30 on a new longshot.

Well, I thought about it during work today, and have come up with, what I think, is quite an ingenious idea. The basis is taking a slightly larger pipe than the current bolt and building in a new carriage catch. Not only will this improve the strength and reliability of the bolt connection, but also give an excellent place to house an o-ring in order to seal my barrel to bolt completely.

Below are the plans I have sketched up:
The outer pipe would have tabs cut and bent up so I can put a support block up there.

My only concern right now is that there will not be enough room between the bolt head and the barrel for the darts to fit. I might have to slide the sheath up a bit and take part of the bottom off, much like the original bolt end.

**I did replace the spring with a too short, but overpowered, industrial one.... plus the regular one. I shouldn't have done that.
The one time it shot, it bounced off my wall, some 30 feet away, all the way back to me fairly strong. It also made quite a loud noise, on account of the short spring.
So, now I'm looking for a good replacement spring as well if anyone has a suggestion of a SPECIFIC one I can buy.
Also, I’m very familiar with JB weld. I think I might have to use it in this new idea I have. Thanks for reminding me it exists AssasinNF. I love that stuff.

That would work, but it wouldn't. You see, to be able to cock the gun, that carrier (piece that broke off) retracts allllll the way back the the plunger tube - no room for a reinforcement barrel sheath like that. The idea would still work if you simply shortened that sheath up to the base of the carrier.
I would highly recommend changing springs. If you can, try to use a Maxshot spring, or a BBB spring. My friend used a Nite Finder spring and the original in his. It works fairly well.
Don't worry about the darts not being able to fit - they will if they're Stefans and at least 2" short.
So that copper barrel does work at it's length? Wow. That's amazingly long.

Yeah, there is only about a 1/4 inch of room when the plunger is fully retracted. By no means is my drawing to scale. I haven't had time to take out all those screws and mess with it again. I'll have to take some measurements and check out the hardware store before this project gets off the ground, but I'm fairly sure I should be able to get it to work. I hope I don’t have to redesign the entire breach structure while I'm in there. Who knows, maybe I'll replace the bolt/plungertube completely.

I'm not actually sure that the barrel does work at its current length, like I said, I only shot it once and I wasn't really paying attention about how it shot on account of the horridly loud breaking noise; but seeing as its only about 3 inches longer than the original gun, I'm confident it will work and hopefully eliminate these spinout problems people are having with overpowered guns. I still have to nest a smaller short barrel into the beginning of that beast to get a better seal on the dart. It's currently a little bit loose. We'll all see what happens when I get it back together, but then again, that test has to wait until I actually can fire the gun again.

If I keep the same distance in the breach as the stock gun had, I should be able to use the full size modified darts that I have made.*

Does anyone know where I could pick up one of these BBB springs, or have an extra one to sell? I haven't seen any of the BBB's anywhere in the stores, and I don’t really want to cannibalize a new gun I have to buy.

*modified taggers with 1/4" slingshot weight.
