I did that my first time around, too. : o) It would be pretty cool if you could get brass in 10' segments like copper though, wouldn't it? ; o)
Yea, as N34 said, I'd try shortening your barrel. I checked out the link you gave, and 6" seems like a little much...
One thing you should do is, if it's the new edition, get a better spring. That mod uses the one of the older ed'tns, which came with a good spring: and if your plunger isn't advancing as fast as his is, that explains the poor performance.
EDIT: Just thought of something else: The thing about Crayola's markers is that they are smaller on one end than the other. I'm betting you have the thin end facing forward, so the dart moves around easy in the back -- but can't get out the front because it's too thin.
Try a different brand of marker. I think Crayola is the only brand that is thinner towards the front.
