I picked up a blue SM3K at a yardsale awhile ago, and since it was too bulky to do a bolt-action spring clip mod on it like I did to Pratt's SM1K, I figured I could do the same PVC-CPVC nesting mod I did to my Sm1.5K

So I did.

It took a little over two hours. Dremeling out the PVC and sanding down the barrels was the hardest part, but it was worth it. It is now capable of ranges just over 110'. Since I didnt do the best job on centering the PVC stubs, three of the barrels arent terribly accurate, but the others are very much so. I'm pleased with it, my only regret being that it's really bulky...





The pump kind of exploded, so I had to do a patch job with a metal bar. It doesnt detract from the comfort at all.

So... is that like an 8-shot breach loader, or do you ramrod? Just askin' 'cause the pic suggests breach loading...

I wouldn't call it breach, but it's close. (I don't ramrod at all anymore, for any of my mods). Instead of a normal breach where you drop the dart in and then pull the barrel back for a seal, you take a barrel out, load a dart in the back, and then shove it back in. I havnt tried it where you drop a dart in the PVC and then slide the barrel over that...I'll have to though.

Yea, that's what I meant. I didn't know what else to call it. I generally do it your way, but my friends tend to like the other ("real?") way since then they "don't have to hold two things at once, or worry about losing the barrel." Psh. Whatever.

Real nice mod. How're you measuring ranges?

Also, I would just fix those three not-perfectly-accurate barrels if I were you. You'll be much happier, even if it is more work.

110 what now? I've had at least three of those guns, and before the pump handles failed (they always do), I could only get around 60 feet out of them. At most. Are you measuring flat distance, from shoulder height? If you were angling the shot, from your roof, then those ranges would be completely normal. Maybe I'm being over critical, it could just be an excellent mod, and you happen to angle your shots slightly. Sorry, those ranges just don't sound reasonable to me.

I heard it over at another forum, I think it was NHQ and he said the ranges were at a 10 degree angle. I never modded one of these so I really can't judge. Maybe it was because your barrels weren't as long as his.

Nice modification. I think the duct tape makes it look really sloppy though. I am assuming you used it to keep the Pvc peices in proper place.

Here is my suggestion.
Take the barrels out and take the gun to your local hardware store.
Check in the plumbing department.
Look for short peices of 3",4",5" piping or whatever slides snugly over the PVC peices that are on the gun.
If the 3" is slightly too tight find a 3"inch end cap or coupler and saw it down to the appropriate size. Then spray paint the peice Blue,Orange,yellow or purple. (to match the color scheme.) Then slide it on and epoxy.

The duct tape was an afterthought, and the only real purpose it serves is an extreme measure to keep the PVC in (in case of large amounts of stress on the seal).

The larger PVC over the entire thing is a good idea. I might try it...thanks!

I measure ranges with a yardstick, end-over-end from my starting position, but sometimes I will use a 16-foot tape measure.

The ranges are what they are. Believe it or dont. Its really not my problem if you dont, though...

I intend to fix those barrels.

Very nice! I need to do this w/ my Blue SM3K, but are those PVC pipes fitting into couplers? Where's the CPVC then? Or is it CPVC loaded into PVC?

The CPVC fits into the dremeled-out PVC, which act as couplers.
