Really, experimenting and ideas are fine, but think about the idea before presenting it here; I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that idea just sucks.

The practicality of 1/2 FBR with wings really is overlooking the obvious. Do real bullets have wings? What does? Take a look at a tomahawk missile and its wings as a size comparison to bullets.
I've given some thought to this idea as well and you're thinking on too small of a scale. Now if you were to make lets say a titan missile with spring loaded wings you could have something on your hands which could kick ass.
Think larger grasshopper

Do you mean with an integration or what? Because size doesn't have anything to do with performance...-NerfMonkey

SGT. loser
that will never get old.
The concept sounds like waay too much work and it would most likely just hurt your dart's performance rather than improve it. now I challenge you to prove me wrong.

Very small and very light objects generally cannot "fly" or glide on conventional wings. There's a size threshold at which you can no longer make an aerodynamically stable wing.
Nerf ammo is also traveling so comparatively slow that it's quite difficult to do anything to improve over-all performance on a consistent level. A better use of your time would be practicing your dart consistency and adding as good of a cone of glue as you can possible make on the end of each dart.

The purpose of a dart is to hit the person you shot it at. Hitting someone who knows where you are is hard enough at 60 feet. I mean, if you really need extra lift to keep the dart going going so much further, it would be going so slow, and with so little force, that a person could either dodge it, or get hit and not even know.
This is the reason people do not like nerf balls: They can go very far, but not consistantly, accuratley, or quickly.
It's a good idea, but sadly, many good ideas have no purpose in Nerf. Like sights, or laser pointers, this idea would not give any advantage, and might even be a disadvantage.
I like the concept, but it wouldn't be practical.

Pat

Basically, it was a glorified Blastfire-type system, in a case that looked like an F-16 fighter, and shot four fixed-delta-wing darts (micro-sized) from four stations mounted on top of the wing structure.
It sucked.
Heavily.
Obviously, Hasbro learned that winged projectiles are a novelty, but not too appealing to the young 'uns. I took my son's one and tried to make a cool weapon, only to ruin it beyond hope. It's serving a practical purpose in our local landfill.
So...that said, I'd like to see you make a spring-loaded, micro-sized, winged type dart, to be fired from a Nerf-type weapon, and provide nice pictures and maybe even a video of it in use. I'd be willing to give you a modified NiteFinder, postage paid, if you can pull this off.
There's been a tad too many topics on ideas and fantasies, and not enough practical goods being pumped out.
NerfHaven needs less dreaming and more benchwork.
C'mon, people.

Piney, I accept your challenge. It might work and it might not. If it does (if I read your post correctly,) you owe me a modded NF.
Oh, did I remember to tell you the part about if you back out, I suspend your account for an indefinite time?
Yeah, that's it.
I'm going to rebuild one of my "good" NFs if you do pull it off. We need pictures, step-by-step tutorial, a video, and a follow-up.
Game on.

As an interesting side note, I found a patent online for a model airplane whose wings snap open after it was thrown, allowing it to glide; the patent even refers to the airplane as a "dart".
No, I'm not going to post the link...find it yerself.

No!
Try it first!
Don't wanna hear it, go make YOUR idea, post it and then come back!
GO OUTSIDE YOU FORUM WHORE!

bigpinecone, I'll give you a friendly piece of advice...if you hadn't read the Code of Conduct, you really ought to catch up on that before posting again. It'll save you lots of grief.
There's a part there that mentions not bringing back an old topic thread unless you have something useful to say. While I can understand enthusiasm, "Rock on" isn't necessarily as useful as say, perhaps, a prototype dart with retractable wings that you have made. If not, it's best to just sit and be excited without adding to your post count.
General Cole, I'm one PM away from doing the deed. Cool down, you're a good Nerfer and such, but horrible at following instructions on a discussion forum.
lastmanalive, you are bringing back your old self. If you don't want to see BS on the boards, begin by restraining yourself from some of your own incomplete "projects". I've heard (not just from you, but from many) of plans, intentions, and of ideas. That's not what NerfHaven was meant to be founded on. It was founded on sound ideas and concepts that were taken to completion, or at least showing evidence of forward progress. That's why folks like Boltsniper, Carbon, Carrtoon, Captain Slug, Renegade, Forsaken_Angel24, Falcon, and many others have developed a keen reputation amongst the team at NH, as well as the admiration of many members, as you know.
Look at Nite_Walker. He just joined within a couple months, and he's already contributing something interesting. Crude perhaps, but it works for him, and it's some PROOF that he's hackin' away. Puggy is another maniac, posting some pretty weird stuff...but better weird stuff than just "I'm gonna", or "I wanna", or "I am submitting this SHITTY MSPaint...."
Okay, you guys have me on a roll now....watch your back.
