I am taking these assassin games pretty seriously now and considered making a silencer.

Posted Image
I followed These directions and made a couple changes. This led me to building this.

Posted Image
The silencers first peice is made up of a coupler that has been filed down around the outisde so it can fit inside a peice of 1" I.D. Pvc. The sticker was put there to increase the straightness of the silencer while on the barrel.

Second peice is a 6" peice of 1" pvc.
Third peice is a 6" peice of 1/2" I.D. Pvc.

Posted Image
Fourth peice is an old towel that was used as the muffler in between the 1/2" and the 1" Pvc.

For the holes on the 1/2" inner pvc pattern went as follows:

1 row of spiral port = Barely silenced anything.
2 rows of spiral port= A little better.
3 rows of spiral port = It will have to do.

End result: Will effectivley silence any gun outside the guns range. AKA Bullshit.
In an optimistic look it was able to deaden the sound by 50% within range.
In a Realist's opinion why would you build a silencer to not fully silence?
The gun would also misfire 1/15 shots because the dart would hit the 1/2" pvc and come out spiraling out of control. Weighs in at about half a pound.

I knew I needed a bigger inner diameter peice of pvc to prevent this. So I decided to go and use the 1" pvc to be the new inner barrel in the new monster silencer.

Peices needed to build the Monster silencer.
18" of 1" pvc
18" of random black piping found in the plumbing section. (they sold it in small lengths)
1/2" pvc coupler.
The female end that comes on all bars of Pvc. 2 peices for front and back.

Step one. Take the coupler and sand it down so it can fit inside the 1" pvc snugly.
Step two. Cut two peices out of the female end of the 1/2" pvc and go to the hardware store and find the black piping that it fits perfectly into.
Step three. Buy that tube and cut it into 18"
Step four. Drill a shit load of holes. The more the better. Go ape shit.
Step five. Take the two female ends and epoxy them on both sides of the 1" pvc for perfect stability.
Step six. Wrap in between the two female parts evenly in toilet paper then paper towel.
Step seven. Make sure it is nice and snug in place and pop the coupler in.
Step eight. Take out that good old 5 minute epoxy and seal everything up and wait 24 hours.
Done.

I would like to say I didnt want this thing to be so long but with a larger ID you need larger lengths of pvc. I tried making one that was only a foot but it didn't do anything. This thing weighs in at about a pound and a half so you want to be holding it while its on the barrel. This for stationary guns only. Where people are set up in $niper positions. Bushes trees etc. I tried many different hole patterns and going ape shit on holes was most definitly the best route to go.

Here is a comparison in size.

Posted Image
Here is the part where the coupler fits onto the barrel.

Posted Image
Here is where I went ape shit on the holes. I made big holes and little holes.

End result:

Pros: Silences sound completely. a friend shot at me from 30 feet with modded Titan and I could only hear the dart whiz past my head. Makes Assassination hits more professional and gives you the opportunity to grab your next primary and take out another person if need be. (If they dont know where the shot came from, this gives you another chance to get someone else with a different gun.)

Cons: This thing is bulky, heavy and a little flimsy. Takes practice to get used to it. Player must be in a stationary, comfortable postion. Almost no possible advantage in wars.

Overall: I am pleased with the results. It does completely deaden the sounds of the Titan and the loud Supersoaker/nerf gun. This was the target goal. Remember before you post that this was designed for Assassin games and not wars.

Next primary? Is that like a secondary? :D

Seriously though, I've made a tonne of silencers, well five, but they all work well. They work well because I didn't follow those instructions. When you use something like a sheet of foam or tissues or towel, realistically, the only thing that slows the airflow down is the gap between the ID of the PVC and the flat of the "absorbant". This is because the tissues or towel or foam can't flex enough to absorb anything. Sure, they seem soft on the touch, but they can't move so easily.
The way my silencers work are not because of their size, but exclusively because of the way they are built. You need a gap between the inner PVC and the outer PVC. So instead of lining the whole thing with an absorbant, add stips of it. Every half inch or so along the inner PVC should do it. This will help the inner PVC create a much more effective baffel because the escaping/expanding gases have somewhere to go instead of just having its impact softened. The smallest silencer I have made for a Nerf gun is 6" in length, 1 1/4"(OD) and 5/8"(ID) wide. This woked effectively. The largest (by width) I have made is 1 3/4" at 5 7/8" long. The largest silencer (by length) I have made is 8 3/4" at 1 1/2" wide. Both of these work as effectively as each other. I use the longer silencer when I want accuracy and the shorter one for room clearing and small spaces etc.

I hope this gives you some idea of what should be going down.

I have left space between ID and OD so its not packed super tight with towel/toilet paper etc. It still didnt do much at all. Do your silencers completely deaden the sound? I mean completely like the only thing you hear is the trigger pull. I will try it your way. If you are right I wish you would have posted this a while ago. It would have saved me alot of time, materials,,hole making etc.

In a game of Assassin there is no limit to the amount of guns you carry. I said next primary in the sense of grabbing your next primary like weapon.

I probably sound like an idiot but how do you load the gun after you put the silencer on? Or was the titan clip fed?

The silencer goes onto the existing barrel with and 1'2" pvc coupler. To reload the gun you would need to take the silencer off and then load the barrel in whatever fashion loading system you are using anyway. There is no point to having a breech loading barrel because chances are they are going to hear you pumping anyways giving away your location.

I had always shyed away from constructing nerf silencers because I never thought they would be trully practical. nerf guns are relativley quiet as is, plus the legal reprecussions of being caught in possesion of a functional firearm muffleing device are bad. For looks though I might make a threaded pvc tube painted black with fake trademarks.

Suppressors can be useful in different nerf scenarios. Some people, such as myself, value stealth when playing in indoor wars.

As for the legality of possessing a suppressor, a nerf gun does not fall within the legal definition of a firearm. It's the same with airsoft guns. It's not illegal to own an airsoft suppressor. Though I'm in Canada, I doubt it's any different down south.

Hmm, I thought that anything that could theoreticly suppress a firearm was illegal without proper regestation(including a $200 fee) and that was why paintball supressors are illegal. Seeing as most supressors are based off of zeros design which he got from a paintball site it would make all others illegal. 'Course I could be wrong on the exact wording of the law.

And as everyone knows, money makes the world go round. It's also the root of all evil, therefore the world going round is evil, and we should stop the rotation of the planet.

I have read up some time ago on silencers and supressors and such and have heard lots about the requirements of the laws and the infamous 200 dollar fee. I'm Canadian so I don't know what exactly relates to the US (depending where you are). So...I read a story where some guy made a silencer and decided to send away for proof of legality for his "papertowel roll" creation. Doesn't seem worth it to me for a 25 dollar nerf blaster.

I really do not believe that a nerf gun is considered a firearm in any sense as it falls under a loose definition of a "toy". Also airguns can't really have suppressors because of the velocities involved with the rounds fired, which are of course a nerf round goes nowhere near as fast.

So instead of worrying of the legality of owning a silencer for a toy, why not just enjoy the benifeits, which BW already said it's not for wars but for assassin games. I have also heard that for something like this (keep in mind I'm not in the US) that the feds have come and have taken designs for a suppressor and whatever and confiscated the designs and then test the thing to see if it could use on a real firearm, or something that would shoot a "lethal" equivalent.

So about building a suppressor that works for nerf guns, but would break apart under the huge pressures of lets say a paintball guns. Think torisional weakness (long slits along the sides instead of just holes. Just a thought.

Connor: Oh, is that right, Rambo?
Murphy: All right, get your stupid fucking rope.

Do you mean with an integration or what? Because size doesn't have anything to do with performance...-NerfMonkey

I have made a silencer on my co2 Titan, and a plugged Titan. I made a 14in cpvc barrell and cut holes going in a spiral along the last 4 inches. Silences it completely, adds a spin to the dart and increases range.

THE DEAD WALK THE EARTH!

Oh wait, no, it's just this necro'd thread from 2006. That may just hold some kind of record.

Between this and your "I haven't tried it but check this out" Stampede thread, take a few days off and read the Code of Conduct.
