You nest brass in brass or brass in PETG to increase the range in a springer. By having a small size of brass at the back, it is much tighter on your darts. This inch or so of smaller brass will cause pressure to buildup more before the dart leaves the barrel, increasing range. You still need a long enough section of brass/PETG to make use of the extra power. This is mostly used only on springers, because the plunger builds pressure slower than in an air gun. In an air gun, the air is already as pressurized as possible, meaning that a tighter barrel would be more detrimental than anything upon release.
The other kind of nesting would be when you nest your barrel in 1/2" PVC or something similar. This is really to protect the barrel more than anything, and to allow you to use a coupler system. Doubt you were wondering about this, but what the hey.

Thanks! By the way, can anyone tell me what type of barrel can be used to fire stock and stefan darts with a good ratio of stock vs. stefan range?
Try CPVC, PETG, or brass nested in PVC.
Does anybody know if ABS is good for barrel material? If so, what size would fit in a recon?
As far as I am aware, there is not a size that fits our darts.
This guy can see the future!
hasbro in a nerf war!!!!! dude the will cancel it and confinscate are guns

I wanted to get some info from everyone using CPVC for barrels. The Home Depot and Lowe's stores in my area have been (until recently) exclusively carrying Genovo Flowguard Gold CPVC. I find that it has a nominal ID of 0.47-0.49" depending upon the piece I'm using. Yesterday I found that the Lowe's store had regular Genovo pipe, which was almost a dollar less expensive, and also has a nominal ID of 0.50-0.51". This makes me very happy, because I can now use Slug style stefans, when I couldn't before. It's also FAR less expensive, with the same dimensions (5/8" OD, 1/2" ID) as the polyester tubing (from McMaster-Carr) that CaptainSlug recommends so highly. So my question is, what brands and ID's are the rest of you working with?
I am going to look at the label and ID on my pipes, since I noticed a dramatic change with the CPVC they were carrying as well. My first pipe was WAY too tight, seemed like it would fit nanos. However, my next pipe (and all pipes after that) which had a changed printing label and bigger OD and ID, snugly fit my darts. Not only that, the foam I bought that same day fits perfectly in BOTH pipes. I don't remember the price, but my last two pipes were cheaper, and they are staying consistent with the FBR they have (not Frost King, but much, much better as compared by me) to the point where there is no major difference in the pipe. The only time it is inconsistent is when I make darts in the cold garage.
Oh yeah, I think it says Genova for the brand.
Short version-
The range of the ID has become fairly uniform for our purposes, because the ID of our pipe is becoming as consistent as our darts.
But you may want someone from the East Coast or, better, someone in the middle of the country. I am pretty sure West Coast weather is different from East Coast.
Should I add or did I miss something?
Edit- Remember, people, it only applies to the CPVC users.

They have the same OD. The difference is in their ID.How does 1/2" sch. 40 PVC compare with 1/2" sch. 80 PVC in terms of outside diameter?

I don't know if this has been posted before, but Smencil tubes fit 3/8" FBR really well. And the top cap works great as a coupler.
Yes, it has been posted before. Here. Just a note on using the smencils cases as barrel material.... When I tried to cut a smencils case with pipe cutters, the whole thing cracked instantly. It is an extremely brittle barrel material.

Its tight for most darts and the streamlines, but that is good for springers.
Read the damn posts.
