Yikes! Sounds like boltsniper may be in the running for the top prize in the future. Glad to have you on the team bolt.

Naw. I don`t think I have much more running than the lot of you.

After a "guilt inducing" IM from CX I got my machines going.

^_^

Welcome to the team, you've already submitted your first WU!

Your collection of processors is fairly impressive by Team NH standards. I've been (barely) leading the 7 day totals for the last few weeks with only the following:

Athlon64 3000+ (Julie/home)
AthlonXP 2000+ (Me/home)
AthlonXP 1800+ (Mom, only runs about 8 hours per day)
AthlonXP 1700+ (Test Box/work)
??? Mystery Machine ???

I don't know who that 5th box is, cause everything I had that's not listed above has a Group Policy prohibition on the F@H client at the moment. It seems to be a decent box because it turns in a WU at least once a week so I won't complain. Thank you mystery donor.

Yesterday I added a P4 2.8 (Dev box/work) back into the mix, now running Debian instead of XP. Next week I'll add an Athlon64 3200+ (Server/home) once I finish building it up.

Dear Shinny,

Bring it.

I've got more than you can even dream of.

Love,

C

Nevermind it showed up. I'm quite certain it was 2600 frames, dude. My new WU is 250 frames on my laptop, so I guess it evens out.

I THINK i may have finally gotten FaH to work properly, at least on this comp, turns out XP has a beef with any service attempting to make an outgoing connection on a LAN that wasnt Owner started, whatever the hell they did to this os in SP2 is plain crap

ANYWAY...WU #2 is now done on this comp, if all stays well i should be able to get #3 and on to submit properly

Both of my systems have taken a dive in performance lately. As opposed to being in a hard pitched fight for second, I am going to have to do my best to hold onto #3. Baelnonrn has gotten back up and running again, and looks to be full steam ahead. Although the charts don't track it now, he should start to be on pace to overtake me again. I really just need to install this thing on my roommate's machines without asking.

Has anyone noticed a differing in performace on your machines over a period of time? I know when the machine goes idle, I get the best folding results. However, on a broad scale, my laptop isn't folding like the beast it used to be.

Over here.

I've had corrupted files, lost data, CLIENT_DIED messages for the last three work units on all three of my machines. Weird. And I keep all three of my comps (office, home, laptop) on, 24/7.

I uninstalled F@H on my laptop, and re-installed the console. When it sought out a FAH core (78, I believe), it showed the core as corrupted or missing data, so it downloaded another one...it's happily humming along on a 147 point work unit, probably to finish sometime this week.

My house comp had a decent size work unit (p890) get deleted at 98%, and the console said it was an I/O error.

[02:44:26] .
[02:44:26]
[02:44:26] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FILE_IO_ERROR
[06:27:19] Completed 4900000 out of 5000000 steps  (98)
[06:27:19] - Checksums don't match (work/wudata_08.xtc)
[06:27:20] Premature end of file when checksumming (271376 bytes left)
[06:27:20] - Could not calculate checksum (work/wudata_08.xtc)
[06:27:22] Checksum not what expected.
[06:27:22]
[06:27:22] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FILE_IO_ERROR
[06:27:25] CoreStatus = 75 (117)

[06:27:25] Deleting current work unit & continuing...
[06:27:29] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[06:27:29] - Presenting message box asking to network.

That, after folding non-stop for 11 days. That sucked. Heavily.

I had a pretty simple unit folding until last night, when my son restarted the computer after installing a program...and the console did not read the files properly, so it deleted that one and d/l another...this one is a simple one that was folded once before so it should be duck soup for the home machine.

My office machine is doing okay, it's folding a fairly large one. I went from the GUI client to the console, and I miss all the colorful protein structures...I'm switching back. Performance increase with the console was minimal.

I dropped SIX PLACES! :( Such is folding and life.

I never thought I'd be so inspired to request hardware upgrades and additions from my main office, but the requisitions are going in Monday (tomorrow). Hmmmm!

EDIT; added Shindig's quote.

Paste up your log file from immediately before and after the reboot. What error did it give you?

Hah, the client first started going up, and when I last checked it, it a was at like 10. I came back an hour later, and it jumped up to the old position (or something simmilar), so I'm all set.

Sooo, I added two CPUs.
One's doing a 400 framer, the other a 5000 framer.
I'm most definately quiting the 5000, 104 days to completion is lame.

No that's how long you get to complete it on time. You'll finish it long before that unless you don't turn on your computer.

104 days is the deadline it must be turned in by. Unless you're running a Pentium 166MHz, I don't think ANY work units could possibly take that long. While we're at it, frames are not a good measure of work done so it's not particularly interesting to note how many frames are in a WU. Points are a much better approximation. Not directed at you in particular, a lot of people use frames to indicate size when they don't compare across cores or even very well within a core.

The longest I have personally seen a computer work on a single WU - and keep in mind that at one point I had 30 of them running - is about two weeks.

I fnished a 2600 frame WU about as quick as a 600 frame. Stay with that WU, you'll get many points.

Thought I'd make up for lost time with an over-abundance of pretty graphs.

So we're in 951st place now, congrats to all on passing the 1k mark!

I'd like to welcome PissBacon to the team. He's moving up pretty quickly and is already in 29th place.

The highest ranked mover since last update is Davis into 8th place. The other movers are Flamebo into 9th, rawray7 into 12th, Hunter into 15th, Hyperion into 16th, RenegadeNerf into 22nd, Jakethesnake into 25th. Congrats to all on your climbing point totals!

One of the unfamiliar graphs up there is an expanded team member comparison (top 18 only, unfortunately) sorted by points submitted over the last seven days. It provides interesting, though fluctuating, information on where you might be headed over the coming days. Links to all the stats I post are provided in the first post in this thread.

Notable teams we've passed in the last two weeks:

Mississippi State University - ECE
UC Berkeley
SuSE Linux Users
Harvard
Team deviantART
Pepperdine
Folding@Mensa
Vanderbilt University
University of Pennsylvania
VT Biochem
Iowa State University
London Metropolitan University
Duke University
Clemson University
Drexel University
The University of Texas
University of Illinois
University of Minnesota
Penn State University

Have I mentioned how much you guys kick ass?

I've been sending email after email for Wester Michigan University to get involved in the project but they seem to have little interest. I already mentioned our areas struggling economy that yo-yo's with manufacturers layoff's in down economic times and how interest in biotech resulting from a relationship with stanford's folding@home project would change Kalamazoo's economic landscape for the far better. I mentioned a ton of other advantages in just about every area inlcuding the fact that it would cost the university nothing compared to what it costs to run the blow-dryers and microwaves in every dorm. I'm going to talk to my Biology of cells and molecules teacher to see what he says about it and see if I can leverage his power to change the university's policy and that I could install the program on all of WMU's computers. Any other ideas besides the fact I also showed them how a group of less than 1/100th computers can pass up harvard?

One in fifty people qualifies for Mensa membership. It's mostly the jackasses who actually join. I don't see them caring about stuff like this all that much.

I appreciate their half-hearted attempt to cure disease and have enjoyed surpassing them.

I'm kinda lost and it's probably answered in the thread, but I don't have time to read ~20 pages. You just install the program and it runs calculations and shit and then it uploads it, and you help with protien folding and stuff? You don't really have to work after you install it? Sorry to be so late to jump on the bandwagon.

I edited the first post with links to most of the questions and answers, but basically that's correct. You go to the download page, type in desired names for yourself until you find one that's not taken, download the client of your choice, and install it. Enter 45293 under team number and set it to run as a service. If you really want to just install it and forget about it, I'd suggest the basic console installer. After you're done configuring it, just reboot your computer and it will fold proteins in the background without you even noticing it's there.

Ok, two more questions, does it save a lot of stuff to my harddrive? Also, when configure it, i have to be on the other username because I don't have admin, so when I reboot and go onto my username, it will run on mine or just the admin's?

Thanks

The hard drive footprint is very small. I'm pretty sure you have to have admin access to install it as a service - which would launch it for any user of the machine. If you don't have admin access, you can put a shortcut to the exe in your startup folder instead of installing it as a service. Then it will just run when you're logged in.
