Also, The Who would have been awesome. Even though there's no Keith Moon, it would be awesome anyway. It would be cool to see if they still have the energy they had back in the day.
The only thing I wish would have happened would be a performance by Robert Plant. I know it's too much to ask for a Page/Plant reunion, but I'd like to see him perform some of his new stuff.
Glad to hear it turned out ok. Damn, I wish I saw it.

Haha...Peter Townshend...what a guy. It's good they pulled off their stage antics. But I take it Pete didn't bash a guitar, eh? For a benefit and all...

I hate hippies, with every inch of my soul! I could see the stink cloud resonating and carrying over the state line, and we have dupont. If you can overcome the Dupont cloud of death over the state of Delaware, then you have found the true source of pure evil.

I smell a ban.You wouldn't know good music if it bit you in the ass. Screw you, you probably can't drive for you're life. Where would you go anyway? Nobody loves you. If you have a problem, SUCK IT UP you little fruit. I don't see you trying to stop poverty. They may not listen to the music, but they'll listen to the people. Go back to you're bottle and quit whining. If you don't like it, go a head and ban me, do what you want. I don't care.
*sniff*
No, no, I farted.
Anyway, I'm sad to hear I missed all of this...
Edit: The music I mean, of course

I agree! It doesn't make a shred of a difference. Did it change anything back when they did Live Aid? I rest my case...God damn hippies! Yeah, we're going to play music and cause a massive fucking traffic jam right through my mother fucking city for no apparent reason. Guess what? No one fucking cares! Especially politicians. Dave Matthews, go back to Red Rock mother fucker, because your dumb ass did this over a holiday weekend. No government is going to drop a continents debt because you played Crash into me or that a group of guys got together and played Dark Side. It just doesn't work that way.

Thank you Talio for spewing those words of intelligence.
As for that other kid, you're obviously 12 and don't know how the world works so I'll let you slide on your over idealistic comments.

AND Hunter? wow, you guys kill me.
Does anyone even know what it takes to make a change in the world? What the hell did woodstock accomplish? And if I see one more commercial on my buddy list for One.org I'm going to go nuts. Celebrities need to stop trying to get the masses to do something about it, and start doing something themsleves. As much as I don't care for U2 all that much, I still have to respect all the work Bono has done with AIDS foundations and other organizations in Africa.
Talio is right though. NO ONE CARES. Hippies are the worst kind of people. They are always "against the man" but don't do SHIT to change anything. They have all these "big ideas" that are just that; Ideas.
ABOVE ALL ELSE, here's my main problem with Live 8. Um, does anyone know what the point of the concert was? It seems to me that like after every few songs announcers would come on and be like, "hey don't forget there's poverty in the world and you should do something about it, but right now give it up for the Who!" Rock stations and the news only reported on the musical acts. What about the actual summit?

OMC, I agree with you. Celebrities have much more money and clout in the community that even an entire group of concert-goers might have, so it's more effective if celebrities do something about it.
Talio, you were a BIT harsh though. I will say though, it made me laugh.
And how does Talio's post make him a conservative capitalist bastard? I just don't understand that.
\/ Talio below, very well said. You pretty much summed up everything I think about the subject in a very comprehensive post. And yes, classical owns all. Suck it pop fans, Chopin and Vivaldi kick your ass. Even though I do listen to a bit of pop.\/

You guys who chimmed in to call me an asshole for calling bullshit on this live 8 thing missed the friggin point. The turnpike was backed up 4 hours on Saturday, meaning massive polution and headaches. So what they did was show complete disregaurd of everyone else who doesn't give a shit about Africa or mediocre music and fucked up the enviroment and flow of daily life for everyone. Get the fuck out of my town you self centered pussies. A very small percentage of the people in Philly went to this thing, yet it fucked up the flow for everyone else, and for what? Nothing god damn it.
And really, whats with all the pussy, half assed carity these days. First these damn awareness bracelets. It's dumb, you paid what, 3 bucks for a piece of rubber? Why not just send the money to the cancer fedoration? Is it too hard to open up the phone book and find the donation line? It's a fad and alot of people fell for it, yet I garantee there were a couple extra hands in the pot on those things. Then we have Live 8. Free concert in the city, causing alot of problems. No money really generated, but a shit load lost. The bill for that thing would have to be in the hundreds of thousands if not millions. Electricity alone would be enough to fund Ethiopia for 4 months. You god damn retards! If you wanted to do something, charge emission. There were concerts all over the world, with huge names for big costs. Book stadiums, put the same bands in, charge 40 bucks a head, and bingo mother fucker, you just made a large fortune. Then, give the money to African nations.
Also, does anyone realize that Africa is a continent that really doesn't want our help? You've got civil wars all over the place. You think we're just going to step in and end that shit because you sang a pretty song? Hell no. We've sent help to them and they shot at us. We try to get a vigilanty dictator out of the Sudan and get one of the biggest failed missions this country has ever seen. People, there's not a whole lot you're going to do about it.
Besides, is this really the number one issue we have right now? We are at war people. I mean, fucking war. These people want to help, join the military. There had to be a million and a half people who went to that concert. Sign em up! We've got insurgents out the ying yang and people my age dying left and right. Africa is the least of our worries. We've got suicide bombers every other day in Isreal.
Now I'm not bitching about any of these problems, but what I'm saying is that you can't change the world. I know your Mommies say you can, but you can't. Millions of people went to this Live 8 thing and nothing happened. If over a million people can't change the world, then something tells me you might need just a little more power to do anything.
Yes, I'm a democrat, but I'm not a whiny Democrat. I know there are problems in the world, but damn it, there always has been. You can't do anything about it. This is life. Shit happens and you have to deal with it. No bullshit feel good stuff. You are weak, no matter how strong. I'm not trying to say be a douche bag and do whatever you want. But I am saying, if you really want to change the world, you need to try and not fuck things up first. Live 8 fucked things up.
Talio.

Now, back on topic, i unfortunately missed live 8. I am quite annoyed at the fact, and i hope they release it on video or dvd like they did Live Aid.

As for Yazz, you are retarded. Open your mind. Not everyone needs to listen to Classic Rock. If they want to listen to classical, or pop, let them. Who are you to judge them by their musical tastes? And if you are going to make a retaliatory post, at least have the sense to put together a logical retort. Saying Bush fucks hairy ducks (which, by the way, isnt possible) isn't going to change anything quicker than Republican hippies.

Talio, I think it was a huge stretch to say they don't want our help. In fact, I think that was complete bullshit.

Talio makes a point about the ineffectiveness of this little concert and you talk about his dick size. Talio talks about air pollution and gridlock fucking up the place and you call him a fag. He's talking about an issue and you're making it personal. You know what your problem is? You have a cock the size of an inch worm. Thats small if your wondering. Classical music is like being castrated. Pop suck balls too. CLASSIC ROCK ALL THE WAY BITCHES!!!!!! Classical music MAKES you republican. Bush can fuck a hairy duck, assuming he hasn't already. He's made too many problems to stay in office, so why is he there? Because of facist, fruitcake, republican girly men like you. You little fags let him get away with everything.
Look, asshole. I totally agree with your politics, but you're the biggest dickwad I've had on my forums in a long time. If you don't watch it real close you're going to get suspended by the Leftist Commie Democrat of the Admin Team.
Oh yeah, you're a fucking embarrassment to Liberals everywhere.

So while that kid probably died you guys all got to see your precious Jay Z!!
So make poverty history... yeah right. What about our own fucking country, go spend a day in Harlem or something and tell me that Africas the only place with poverty. Right now we are in debt $7,836,495,788,085.86, work on your own fucking country before you attempt to help out a country that doesn't even want our help. Remeber, someone dies of poverty or preventable diseases every 3 seconds, snap, snap, snap so lets have an 8 hour concert. Lets see, if my math is correct 9,600 people died during the Live 8 concert. Here's an idea, have everyone in the country donate a dollar to the poor little kids in Africa and then thats what... 300 million dollars that can go to a bunch of starving kids. Don't try that shit on me with a free concert to raise awareness. Fuck you Bob Geldof.
Don't take any of that post seriously, its just there to make you think. I don't like to get all political becuase I don't have much of a political stance and could really care less what other people are doing as long as I'm still alive and have a couple bucks in my pocket.
Oh and Yazz, Talio is a big guy I highly doubt he has a small penis. I bet you'd be pissed off if you had to drive through that mess. I bet it twice as bad in London.

Chopin and Vivaldi definitely kick collective ass. Hell, Chopin has a vodka named after him, biatch.
I gotta disagree with you about the traffic thing. Yeah, they fucked up daily life in Philly for a concert that accomplished very little. But you know what else fucks up traffic? Other concerts. And baseball games. And basketball games. And retarded fucking drivers who can't stay in their own lane and kill 3 people on the thruway. A lot of your criticism of this concert is spot-on, but there are lots of things that screw up daily life and cause traffic in Philadelphia or any other major city, and many of them are things like other concerts with a pure profit motive. Even if this concert failed miserably to raise awareness, it's still a better reason to fuck up traffic than a $80 ticket Lindsey Lohan concert.
You pretty much summed up the problem with this shit when you mentioned the awareness bracelets. It's not about helping people, and it's sure as hell not about raising awareness - it's about showing people that you care about people less fortunate and are therefore worthy of their respect. How many people actually saw a livestrong bracelet and said "Holy fuckin shit man, there are people with cancer out there? Goddamn I gotta go buy them a baseball hat" It's the same thing with Live 8 - it's an opportunity for people to use the pretense of raising awareness as a way of showing the world that they're aware, even if they're not doing a goddamn thing. And if you think about the collective cost of this, how many vaccines would this thing fund? It's not as glamorous to inject a 4-year old, but it's a helluva lot more effective use of a dollar.
Eh, that's not a clear issue. The presidents of Sudan and Kenya recently released statements essentially saying that they need the help of the G8 if they're to escape complete poverty. Then the president of Libya, Gaddafi, said that they should stop begging and work together. Seeing as it's a continent, not a country, there's lots of different views regarding the west.
The mission that you're referring to is probably the operation in Somalia, not Sudan. Yeah, we were shot at, but that was partially by the soldiers of the guy we were trying to remove (those were the guys that downed the helicopters), and partially by civilians who saw the Rangers and Delta Force as distinct units from the Red Cross who were feeding them - they only saw the Rangers when they were shooting people in their neighborhood. They don't exactly have a free and expansive news service there, so they had no way of knowing that the Task Force was there to enable distribution of food. My point is that we can't use the confusion and anger of 10,000 Somalians as a reason for not trying to help Africa. Even though that mission ended in disaster, for a period of a few months we were very effectively fighting the famine that had killed 300,000.
I gotta agree with your assessment of people actually doing something. What happens when you have everyone raising awareness? Nothing gets done. Millions of people watched these concerts and nothing happened. But if millions of people donated $20, you'd have millions of pounds of food. Or if millions of people joined Doctors Without Borders, or the International Red Cross, or Oxfam, and volunteered to work in less-than-desirable areas, you'd have the beginnings of a solution.
Yazz, you're an idiot who happened to stumble upon the right side of politics, and in doing so have embarassed every liberal on these boards, including me. You deserve a punishment that fits your age. Go to your room.
