Is there a way to make my 1/2" stefans thinner? They're slightly too wide for my cpvc, but it's the only brand of fbr that is available to me. Thanks

Have you tried stretching them? That usually makes them contort to a smaller shape.

Before I cut out my darts I throw 2' sections of FBR in the dryer for a couple minutes, and when its hot I stretch it out a bit. Makes them thinner, and straightens 'em out.

My general Stefan making process:
-Cut about 50 2" pieces of FBR.
-Put in drier for 30-60 seconds.
-As taking each out, stretch as best you can, lining them up in rows.
-Make each stefan, dipping in ice water for 1 second after each application of glue.

I found a really good method of strightening/shrinking stefans darts is just after you make them put a bunch of them into a long cpvc barrel (or several small ones) and leave the cpvc tube in your car trunk for a day or two. The heat stretches and strightens them out and makes them conform to your cpvc ID. And remember, don't cram them if they're too big, twist them gently down.

Might just be the one package. I bought four packs of the same brand of 1/2 inch foam once, one of them was thicker than the rest. I just used a blowdryer to heat it up and stretch it out

Try taking brass, then putting the darts in the brass and heating the brass up. Since it's a metal, hence probably a good conductor of heat, it should spread the heat more evenly around the dart, resulting in a straight-er dart. I think. It's what I do, and it's worked thus far.

I cut my foam in 3 ft pieces and hold one end with my hand and run the foam through my other fist. This straightens and streches the foam at the same time. Once I get it to fit in cpvc I go to the next piece. Or I found a great method of shrinking it. Put the darts in the freezer for a few hours and when you take them out they will be thinner.

Davis, your method takes to long. You should streatch it all at once instead.

Love, how do you get the fat foam or multiple darts all the way in the cpvc?

For the fat foam squeez the tip in and twist the rest of the dart down slowly, then ram rod it to the opposite end of the cpvc, then fill up the rest of the tube his way.

Don't use CPVC?

Don't you think it will be irritating always having to resize your darts to fit your barrels rather than just getting the proper barrel size for your FBR?

I've always been a proponent of buying enough FBR to last forever, then finding the perfect barrel material for your FBR.

Its not that irritating because its not hard to stretch, cpvc is cheap(for some of us who don't have jobs), and I can't find brass anywhere. I have gone to multiple hobbies shops, checked at hardware stores and called a lot of hobbies shops but no one has brass. Also copper is to big for my darts and PETG can only be bought off the internet.(theres some on ebay now though)
