Before I start making it, has anyone in the nerf community tried something similiar to crafting a treatise similiar to a Nicolo Machiavelli or Sun Tzu's the art of war masterpiece?

I once wrote a handbook on my mercenary group's tactics... but it was low quality-styles. If you need info-sketches I can do that (assuming you're asking for help.) I like drawing generic people doing specific things.

Machiavelli's writings, which are the foundation for modern political realism, were based on politics so I'm not sure why he was mentioned in your post.

As for something similar to Sun Tzu's "Art of War" (which I am currently reading), I'm not sure what exactly you have in mind.

But here's 40 articles/editorials, primarily based on tactics.

I hope this isn't what you had in mind really.

Perhaps you should attempt something comparable to Carl Von Clausewitzs (sp?) "On War". Von Clausewitzs' work is considered a masterpiece just like "Art of War", only more relative to recent times.

I just started book 1 in Machiavalli's art of war, I was using its impact as a marker for how interesting it is.

In Sun Tzu's version I wanted it too look like the same format Sun Tzu did i.e

Gathering Forces:

1. One must use a diverse team of many specialties in order to succeed...........

Evil, your tactics are far beyond any I've read, maybe I'll just let you have that area.

I think you may have more success if you try to adapt Sun Tuz's principles to nerf, rather than try to reinvent the wheel. The Art of war is a great text and has broad application in any situation where you have to face an opponent. My Contracts professor asserts that the reading is very helpful when adapted to negotiations.

But the military princples should carry over to nerf fairly well.

Vassili wrote an article on the Art of War's relevance in Nerf. It's on FF and NW.

I've always found Miyamoto Musashi to be more to the point.

I know about Von Clauswritz? Anyone know of any more modern war theorist, like a swartzkopf esk... strategist. Sun Tzu is a little too oversimplifed in my opinion. The best I've read on strategy is Games and Decessions, an introduction to game theory. Machiavelli has the best rhetoric I've read so far, its almost like a really good Tarantino movie script.

Wow, evil, that is one extensive tactics page. I'm considering printing it out for reference. Good job, it's clear you have a lot of experience. I think you also convinced me to make a blowgun...

And we still did our fair share of damage. Nuff said.

Sun Tzu is a little too oversimplifed in my opinion.

Simple plans and strategies often work more smoothly than cumbersome strategies which involve more details. The more details involved, the better chance of something going wrong because there are too many variables to rely on. In other words, everything might have to go right for you (which can never be expected when you're actually warring). So as I see it, Sun Tzu's work seems like the perfect piece to analyze simply because its simple.

Although someone has already done it.

Machiavelli has the best rhetoric I've read so far, its almost like a really good Tarantino movie script.

I hope its directed better at least.

Ya i've discovered that too, Evil. Its best when you train your team with simple rules for behavior than devise complex stratgies with many variables.

Yeah, I remember that too. He he.

I also seem to remember a few wars after they actually all had guns where we had similair "Horsemen V.s." wars that went fairly well in our favor as well....

I once wrote a 17 page Nerf War rule book containing the rules to all the different Nerf games we play and a list of penalties for certain scenarios. It was a pretty basic format and had fairly awful diction as I was only about 10 or 11 years old.
