Man, that thing looks great. I really like your designs. Can I ask what you are planning to do next? It will probably be a springer right?

Don't worry about the things you don't know. Do sheep expand in the rain? Who discovered how to get milk from cows? And what was he doing in the first place?

I came up with the design and drew it up anout a month ago. That didn`t take long at all. The final configuration is amazingly close to my original sketch.

FIDO - I am working on another pistol. And yes, it will be a springer.

I'm not sure if you said anything about the shells but how long are they? Do they just have peices of couplers on them?

EDIT: Oooo..oooo and what about the magazine/clip whatever, is it 1 1/4" half peices of pvc with balsa wood?

The shells are 3 1/4" long and yes, they just have section of 1/2" couplers on them.

More pics. Mostly during various phases of construction. I did not do any editing on these so they are massive and may be slightly out of focus, dark, overexposed, etc. They may illustrate some portions of the gun not already shown

Here's a question...when you cut pvc and have to fit it, such as with the stock, do you just eyeball the shape of the pipe it's being fitted to, or is there some kind of mathmatical process to getting a good cut?

Here's a question...when you cut pvc and have to fit it, such as with the stock, do you just eyeball the shape of the pipe it's being fitted to, or is there some kind of mathmatical process to getting a good cut. To avoid making multiple parts because of mistakes I usually rough cut a piece large and then slowly remove material until it fits like I want it.

There is really no mathematical process for it. If you are cutting the pipe to make a custom angle....like the bottom portion of the stock.... then the angle you cut needs to be the same for each pipe otherwise the joint will not line up. If you are making a cut to butt it a section of pipe...liek where the pistol grip joins the receiver or where the lower portion of the stock meets the lower receiver.....then you need to cut it long to account for the curvature. The mitre cuts you can cut with a mitre saw or justt freehand it with a dremel like I do. You`ll get good at judging where and how much to cut over time.

Added a sling.

Finally broke something today. Took about 300 rounds. Nothing major. The tang that retain the ejector broke and it came out. I didn`t notice until the round failed to eject. It was an easy fix. I actually made a few extra ejectors in case it happens again during a battle. Other than that the entire rifle is still going strong.

The next thing I would like to do is to make another bolt set that will use CO2 rather than the spring. The spring and plunger gives great ranges and I am more than happy with it. Don`t get me wrong. I jsut figure why not..... It should be pretty easy to make another bolt group that could be simply swapped out for the spring/plunger setup to convert between the two. With the CO2 I would expect to get ranges a little less than my previous rifle due to the shorter barrel....maybe 130 ft. Of course I could always make a longer barrel that could be swapped out as well.

I get to try out this thing this weekend. I`ll be sure to let you know how it performs in battle.

The plans are coming. I`m putting together an Excel file with detailed drawings of each component as well as some tips and notes. Should be done shortly.

Battle tested this past Saturday. The rifle performed great. I had absolutely no probelms with it functioning....which surprised me actually. I expected something to break or sieze up or something..... We ran about 15 or so rounds of assault, alternating offense and defense. 4 to a team. We played in one of my friends basement. About 1500 square feet. Plenty big. I made about 30 shells which took forever but I wanted to be prepared. Before each round I loaded up 5 in the magazine and stuck one in the chamber ready to go for a total of 6 in the rifle. The rest I dumped in my cargo pockets. On offense I took second in line with my machine gunner in front (2 RF20's). He was able to lay some cover fire while I took more placed shots. I mounted a cheap red dot single power scope on the rifle which worked great for fast acquisition. Most shots were taken within 30 feet at which range the rifle is extremely accurate. The longest shot I took was probably 45 feet. Once I used the full mag I had 2 choices. If I had some cover and some time I would reload the mag. Most of the time though I didn`t......in which I would just rack the bolt back, lock it, grab a shell from my pocket, toss it in the breach, and release the bolt. This worked very well and was very quick. The only awkward part about it was bending over to pull a shell out of my pocket. I think I might make a bandolier for the shells to wear across my chest. I really only used about 15-20 shells per round, but it was nice to know I had plenty on hand. The sling came in handy when transitioning to a different weapon or performing a task.

At some point during the night I hit something that cracked the balsa that makes the sides of the magwell. Didin`t effect the finctioning of the riflle....jsut cosmetic....but it did piss me off. Already fixed and touched up so no biggie.

My team dominated the other team like 11-4. Not that it matters ^_^ We all had fun though. I can`t wait to do it again and try the rifle in a bigger area.....like outside.

Awesome bolt. Were there any other homemades in play or all actual Nerfs? That sounds sweet. I haven't been to a big war in so long...

I wouldn`t call it a "big war"...only 8 guys. The only other homemade we had to use was the CO2 rifle which we unanimously decided was unsafe. Aside from me everyone else had genuine Nerf guns.....modified.....but Nerf.

I could get 200 PSI PVC at Home Depot or Lowe's for like $2.38 for five feet. Pretty good deal, if you ask me. Bolt, the biggest war I've ever been to was less that eight people, but you're right, that's not that big when you compare it to wars like YANO, Armageddon and SENO.

I have made quite a few modifications and improvements since I finished the rifle. Here is a list of changes/additions:
-- Moved the front action spring mount forward to create a stronger pull on the bolt.
-- Added a section of 1/2" CPVC to the rear of the plunger. The spring rides over this section and it helps to prevent the spring from buckling.
-- New rear site with a smaller aperature
-- Wrapped the pistol grip and fore-end eith electrical tape to give it more grip
-- Added sling mounts and a sling
-- Mounted 2 more receiver cover mounts to increase rigidity of the receiver cover when optics are mounted.
-- Lengthened charging handle for easier/faster operation
-- Mounted an inexpensive red dot scope.

I`m still working on the plans and they are about 2/3 done. I am trying to be as thorough as possible. I am writing them up in Excel and will post the file as soon as I`m done.

And as everyone knows, money makes the world go round. It's also the root of all evil, therefore the world going round is evil, and we should stop the rotation of the planet.

The groups of people who have to pay for it and people who don't have it are remarkably similar in size.

I can understand if you are 12 and have your own PC (lucky bastards) and not having Office or Excel. But I would think their parents PC would.
