So do I, and I just got back this weekend on sunday from a 40 person war

I can't imagine anybody having a war that huge and not taking at least a few pictures.

You don't have to know them to know they contributed to/influenced the NIC. What Stefan or you or CX or whoever are like in person has little to do with the fact that I know how to make cheap homemade darts, use brass effectively and, uh...make a bigass Crossbow integration.

You missed the entire point of my post. You're unable to make a fair evaluation of influence because you have no idea where the things you take for granted originated. To consider the dart Stefan's greatest legacy is crazy, and to attribute the integration to anyone except spoon is retarded. This community has a very short memory but that doesn't mean you're not feeling the ripple down effects of things these guys did almost a decade ago. It's not very equitable to attribute these contributions to people just riding coattails because you have no clue as to who got them started.

I'll have to go with Yakman because his site was the first one I ever found. It also had very good write-ups with easy to follow steps.

I don't think it was really one person that was the most influential. Each person came up with different ideas and everyone else improved on it. So each one of them made small things and thats why there are so many ideas.

Every mod writeup I've done was based on what Yakman did.

Everything is derivative of someone who came before - unless you were part of the community a decade ago.

I think it's more useful to acknowledge the people who have had the most influence on you rather than trying to make a historical judgement on behalf of the community.

I'll go ahead and tip my hat to the following influences back in '01 when I signed up:

Desire to get out and actually nerf: Vacc, Spoon, Barney

My approach to modification: Yakman, Zero

My desire to run a forum that doesn't suck: Hal

But most importantly, the internet. Without it, where would we be in the first place?

Who ever took a nerf gun, looked at it, and said "I think I'll cut this off, put a piece of brass on it, stretch the springs inside, if there are any, And put a rubberband on the back of this thingy" Is the most influencial to me.

It didnt start like that. Maybe some guy just broke his nerf gun, or his kid's nerf gun, and opened it up and fixed it, and realized there were air restrictors, and he could improve the performance? Brass and other barrels came later.

When I first started nerfing and even when I first started posting on the list-serve I, and pretty much everyone I'd spoken to, still used stock guns. I think the first mod I ever did was cutting the tip off my original bow N arrow. I could list off probably a dozen site that inspired me to some degree, but noneof them exist anymore and I always felt I could do it better. The first real mainstays I found were Nerf Reviewed, and Die hard. I met spoon in an email that I wrote him about how much I loathed Eric from Nerf Reviewed (which was a focal point of the list-serve for years). The next week I got an email from Stefan telling me Spoon had recomended me and asking me to join the listserve.

I think what inspired me was the fact that everyone was so into it. You weren't a modder on the nerflist. You were a nerfer, and eventually you started modding. Spoon inspired me to use my first crossbow, Stefan sent me the first package of stefans I ever shot, these were all milestones for me, but that's not it. I admire people who get other people excited about nerfing. There are still people today who do that. Those are the influences I value. As for anyone who wants to know what I've contributed....fuck you. I've been here since the beginning, and god willing I'll be here when this all goes straight to hell... and maybe one day I'll write it all down. Until then, I'll just take all comers.

The earliest thing I remeber was Foam Weapons Arsenal,which was like early 90's I believe. I remember modding guns before I went online and found nerf.cent.org and nerfreviewed, just using simple banding. Anyone who has knowledge of simple mechanics and got into nerf had at least some interest in modding the gun initially. Its truly amazing as a community what we've been able to come up with and in many ways, how much we may have affected the designs of nerf toys. There were some other really old ones I can remeber like Nerfland,the old nerfworld and a few others.


Many thought nerf was going to die after NO shutdown(basically) or when Eric Stryker stopped putting up new reviews, (by the way his personal page and video game pages were excellent as well) but really as long as there's interest in nerf type guns, there will always be a community.

In life there are only 2 things that are certain, human stupidity and nerf, but I'm not so sure about human stupidity,since Bush will leave after another 3 or so years.

I'd have to go with Boltsniper, no I've never met him but his site is what really got me interested in homemades, and after seeing his newest creation I'd have to say that he has influenced me personally the most. Don't worry Stefan darts and Nerfhaven are close too.

My first ever Nerf war was with my older brother, David. He was the first one to get me and my friends and his friends to an organized Nerf war in our house. He was the first person that I knew of to modify darts to make them more accurate and fly farther. My friend Adam (Nerf Psycho from NO) was the first to show me how to modify Nerf guns. Then there's my nephew Ryan, who got me back into nerfing and ultimately influenced me to get back into the Nerf forums.

Then my family got AOL, and Adam and I both joined NO. It seemed that everyone was talking about this "bad-ass Nerfer" who was like 20 or something. That was Spoon. That made me think "People are still into Nerf when their 20? Hell yeah!"

So there it is. My brother and my nephew, who nobody else on here knows. Nerf Psycho, who I'm sure a few people on here remember from NO. And then there's Spoon, that guy that everybody seemed to be in awe of.
