Yeah, so i'm making a really odd bow type thing, and i'm wondering what has a good seal on 1-inch PVC

Note: I will try and post the final product, but I have a horrible camera

If you can't figure out how to size an o-ring to seal inside a given dimension you're not likely to be able to figure out the rest of the project.

 

That said, look into using the same u-cup seal that snakerbot used as a rod seal in this thread.

The ID of your typical 1-inch SCH40 pipe is around 1.050" and a "1-inch" OD u-cup seal is likely to be close to sealing well enough to work as a plunger head when put inside a 1.050" ID tube.

 

Otherwise the tried and true plunger tube is 1-1/4 SCH40 pipe, which has an ID of 1.380" and accepts a variety of seals, including foolproof 7/8" ID skirt seals.

Well, Monty's broke, so I can't spend to find good seals, and I have already tried O-Rings and rubber washers

I even cast a plunger head out of silicone (that turned out very bad. very very bad)

Also, I'm lazy(town)

Boltsniper used to do 1" 200 PSI "Thinwall" plunger tubes, and used 1/2" PVC endcaps with orings for plunger heads. Look at any of his old projects.

What i suggest you do if you do is to go to a hardware store (like ace or macs) and bring a sample of 1" pvc with you to find the right O ring.

 

a method i found to work nicely is to turn down 1/8 polycarbonate circles mounted on the drill press. I clamped a piece of wood down on the table and then just turned it down with a chisel like it was a wood lathe. then just fine tune it until everything fits perfectly sandwich the 3 pieces together and put ur O ring in between.

 

i used this for a seal in 3/4 schedule 40 pvc and it sealed up really well.

The O ring from a nerf strongarm will seal reasonably into sch.40 1inch pvc. This I know for sure as I will be making my first SNAP out of it. I'm not 100% sure on this, but a half inch cpvc end cap may work. A sanded down half inch pvc end cap may also work if you're desperate.
