Hi Nerf guys
I'm sure many of you here already know about meetup, and use it on occasion.
For those of you who never heard of it, it's a site where you can search for "common interests".
The people there create pages to find & attract others with a common interest in anything; from hobbies, activities, games, etc.
I've been a member there for a couple of years now, and am in a few groups (softball group, card games group, geeky people groups, etc).

The depressing thing though, is that there's no official Nerf meetup group.
I searched "Nerf", and expanded my distance up to 100 miles, and not one groups' name showed up.
This isn't because there's no event coming up soon or anything because I checked the Nerf Wars schedule, and there's a few within 50 miles coming up in the next few months.

Now personally, I would like to join up in one, just to be alerted via email when someone updates a group event on the site, but I'm no group leader.
There are several of you here that goes to hundreds of these events, and hosted them as well.
I ask that someone (responsible), create a group on meetup.com and post it here for the members to signup. I'm sure it'll get hundreds of members easily.

The events won't be limited to just a single State. Anyone from the group can create an event, and ask for it to be posted on the "upcoming events" calendar.

For those of you who are lucky enough to do wars every other weekend. You can create you own page for your usual friends to check on updates, and it'll allow anyone who are new to it to search for your event dates and just join in.
That's how I found out about a local softball meetup group last summer, and I've been playing with them every weekend since then.

Anyways, here's the link:

http://www.meetup.com/find/

I hope some of you will consider creating one for the forum, or at least a small one for your city.
It would be nice to have one in NYC, a random activities group I was in had a Nerf war in Central Park a few months ago.
Since the park is a few miles wide, we had no problem finding a spot for ourselves. The joggers and police didn't bother us, and it felt nice shooting a modded Nerf gun at someone again.

I'm in NYC, I'm down for some blasting somewhere, and I got some plus ones I could bring. Theres going to be another war in Long island you can take the LIRR to, it's an NiC type but it's still fun even showing up with a SAMBO load out. I've done it before, and usually there's loaners. Anywhere here's the thread for the long island one, http://nerfhaven.com...showtopic=25632

Hi Doggy, as a fellow New Yorker, you know it's freezing right now (20-40 degrees every day).
If you make a page on the meetup, I'll definitely join in, and we can create upcoming events for the months ahead.
Like for the summer times.
I've been working on a few projects a while back. One is based on high accuracy I came across on youtube, and the other is just another replica from a game.
It would be great to meet some other NYers for weekend wars. Let me know if you do create a meetup group.

20-40 is actually quite balmy considering how cold it's been in the past several weeks. I was at the beach last week, yeah it was 26 degrees, but that was outright warm compared to the -20 windchills from the nights before. The impact of temperature is completely relative to the conditions. Anything with two digits and no wind is sitting pretty right now in the NY Metro area. Once you get up and running in the first round of a winter war, you won't notice any cold. The coldest war I've been to was 10 degrees and I had to take my jacket off during the heat of some of the rounds.

If you are willing to take Metro-North to the end of the line (New Haven), the CT group has regular wars there. It's a very open and laid back community, we'd be happy to pick you up at Union Station.

I'd go to regular wars in Central Park if there's some level of organization beyond those mass events that usually take place in the park. I like to nerf with people who can follow rules, take their hits, contribute to the community, etc. We could make a Meetup group for the area, but NH and the local FB groups have been the primary means of community-building. They've worked pretty well, so what does Meetup bring to the table that improves the experience? People won't want *yet another* place to check for the same information.

Right now, it's pretty meh because it's hard for people to try and call hits because of their coats. I mean we could find a place and I could bring some dudes because right now there isn't really anyone I know free right now (lots of school stuff, Midterms right now) In the spring or summer is a lot more of a better idea since the cold is not really ideal. Bump this or PM me later, but right now is just performance modding season.

NYC is not a good idea for that, I play more younger kid demographic mostly because I don't have anything else. Too many bystanders tourists and that guy who always starts talking to me about how guns are bad and I'm bad because I have a nerf gun (these are exact quotes, I say blaster) but if what you say about Central park is true than that'd be great since It's mostly been indoor friends house wars.

Yeah it's true about Central Park. It's so big no one cared about what we were doing. A few 20y/o-30y/o were interested, but we didn't have enough extras to let them join. We managed to have about 11 ppl meetup that afternoon.

Woah 11 single dudes or were there plus ones? I know 4-5 +1's that are pretty worthy of being standalone but just follow me. Anyway, would we be playing SAMBO or NIC style wars in Central park, because SAMBO is what most of my friends are.

The 11 was all together (6 ppl from the page who brought 1-2 friends each), and they just played with stock everything. The people never heard of a modded blaster before they saw mine. My fave moment was when it got dark, and I was tired. I warned this teen if he tried to capture our flag and shot me while I was guarding it, I'd find him after the games and shoot his butt cheek point blank. He thought I was kidding. Haha, he never got shot with a stefan by the shotgun (foam ball shotgun with the strong large spring) before. He should have just taken the flag w/o tagging me.

Damn, no mods. My friends do light mods or pest me into doing stuff, they mostly have basic 5 kg springs. So sometime in the spring, spring break? All of my plus ones would be free.
