I'm in the proccess of possibly getting some brightly colored closed cell foam backer rod manufactured for the nerfing community to hopefully buy so that we can FIND our fricken darts at last! ^_^ I'm just trying to see if it is something that most would be interrested in purchasing-- at the same reasonable backer rod price of course-- to make their darts with. (I'm assuming yes will win)

I have my ways. Pulled a few strings at BackerRod Inc. Talking to the Vice President tommorrow who seems interrested if there is a market for it.
I actually think if you take away whatever "coolness factor" you would look for in color. I think Dayglow ORANGE would be the most practical color for finding darts. yeah we can start a poll later on for color. I really need everyone to vote though.

loghelp is $.057 per foot. I'd pay that much for good consistent 1/2" FBR of any color.

I'd pay 2 or 3 times that for dayglow orange.

Over here it's $4 for 20 feet... so, $0.20 for 1 foot. I guess I'd pay a few cents more, but not much. Maybe $0.30 max. I'd prefer red ones so I could make 3D's awesome airjet micro-lookalikes.

I'm definately up for buying some... I'd do about 20-25cents per foot. Since my store has it for 12cents per foot.

If you seriously have this power you should get them to make it straightend instead of curved because its a pain to straighten all of those darts! Orange is definately my choice because one its cool, two gray sucks, and three any other color would be hard to find or look like a nerf dart.

Yes like the color of my sig

That would be awsome if you could get colored foam backer rod!! I would like lime green the most though, or like bright yellow. ^_^

Cheese, problem is, the foam backing rod is more easily packaged in longer segments when curved than when straight. I think that's why they make them into little rolls. Also, it's easier to store in long segments when it's in a roll.

But if you could pull strings so that they produced it Straight, AND bright orange, I think you would make ALOT of fans from nerfers everywhere.

I would love dayglow orange because I would be able to find my darts so easilly. No more looking for darts on my lawn like looking for where I dropped my contacts.

However, while negotiating you need to remember to manufacture orange baker rod takes some money. So you need to explain why it would be useful in its usually applications, i.e. window-sills, door-jams, foundation cracks, etc.. Once you have gotten that covered I will pay up too $.75/sq.ft..

Good Luck! ^_^

Now, I'm not an avid Nerfer, so I doubt I'll be picking any of this stuff up myself, but I certainly have lost enough darts to have a good feel for what is easily spotted.

Grey, naturally, blends very well with pavement, and any earthen background, light or dark.

Orange is dandy in almost all cases, but what about in the fall? I've lost my fair share of orange Max Force Mega Darts to leafy backdrops. Light or dark, I've had issues with them. Same goes for yellow, as nice as it is on every other background. Neon yellow would differ a bit, but not much in the fall.

Green seems unmentionable, but the bright green used on Larami darts is actually pretty easy to spot on any background.

If I had my choice, I'd go with a light/sky blue, as neon/bright as possible. Unless you're playing in a McDonalds play palace or something, there's no chance in hell you're losing those. Hot Pink is the close second, though many may have an obvious aversion to that.

But maybe I just have a poor idea of the general colour of dayglow orange.

colored foam would be a blessing! Day glow orange is perfect.

I just got my clan started of about 10 people (plus or minus 3 or 4 some days, including my pastor :P , he even painted his NF and RF20 flat black after we dicided we were not going to do that!) any hoo...

we have probabbly had 6 wars.
this last weekend we played 3 consecutive afternoons in 3 different locations.

we started with about 1000 darts... as of today i think we have 20.

please tell me this is not normal.

*you know what? Call me crazy, but wouldn't FBR companies make more money if we just kept loosing our darts?

as is what im most realistically going to be able to get a mass hold of is red 1/2" backer rod closed cell. It does cost more than normal due to the dye and would probably be like a commercial bag of 20' + a buck. So that would be 5$ per 20' so 25 cents a foot sold through me or something along those lines. Im not certain yet but within the week I will have news folks! Im excited.

edit: if i play my cards right there is also talk of it being 2.5" precut peices. but we'll see.

i think dayglo orange would probably beat green since the average nerfer loses the most darts to grass, so as far from green as possible is good.
my grey backer rod costs $0.15/ft...i'd pay twice that much to be able to FIND my darts, so i'd pay $0.30/ft. maybe even as much as $0.40 or $0.50 if thats the cheapest it can be gotten, but that's pushing it.
if quantity is a question (like they want to know how big a run of colored stuff you want), put me down for 50 feet. again, i'd go up to 100 feet if it helps the availability; too many or too expensive findable darts is better than unfindable cheap ones.

I would definately buy colored foam. Hot Pink would probably be the easiest color to find while looking for darts, because nothing in nature, except for maybe flowers, but most people probably wouldn't like that, so a neon orange or blue would most like work well.

I don't want to mess things up for ShortShit, but I found this while searching Google for 'foam backer rod.'

Scroll down on the page, and you can purchase white FBR in 1/2" diameter for $2 per 10 feet. (Same price as store-bought gray FBR) I might try to order some, because white is also easy to see.

I've actually encountered some of that once in a fishermans shop and it seemed a bit on the skinny side much like the skinny 1/2" light grey backer rod you see around, but im sure that varies by brand... Let us know if it works out definitely! I will still persue the red, as I think many may fancey red and it wont cost a considerable amount more per foot. More info to come this week, and let us know how your white worksout if you get some.

Hear hear! Every color would probably have it's faults, but every color is better than the current grey.

heh I wonder who said no!

-if this were to all come through and I could get my hands on it PRECUT (probably 2.5")(which I think would mean pre-straight as well) would that be preferable?

What're the chances I could get some pink 5/8" down here in Alabama?

Pink would complement the hearts I have on the tips nicely.
