*Sigh* you were talking about how hunter should stop taking things so personally, so I told him to go cry it out.

Oh, and for covering fire, isn't the purpose of that just to allow someone to get where they need to get to? And those thing spray out bullets for a few seconds, which should be ample time to get the person where they need to get to. If you use another gun, the person you're trying to cover is more likely to get hit since the opposing team member can take pot shots in between the seconds you take to reload your gun, while as if you're using a wf/rf20/pc they can't. After you're done, just switch weapons, no big deal. Unless you're supposed to cover a person for greater than 10 seconds. Which in my opinion either means the guy is a turtle or something. Maybe it's just me, but I think an automatic is better for cover fire, since it sprays bullets everywhere. The point isn't to hit the guy, it's to keep him down for a while. I just think the other guy would pop up in between shots, so I'd choose an automatic for the job. But whatever you can work with I suppose.

\/ I also somewhat agree with him \/

...the Xbow has ONE shot. it has a HORRIBLE ROF and shouldnt be used as a cover weapon, whereas, a SM1500 or a AT3k/2k have great ROF's/range, so even w/ the pumping they will get off way more shots way faster. your example is void. It does have a good rep(CB), its true, and it is quite fixable, and the maxshot is more advanced-- and less easy to recontruct true, but the maxshot is NOT shotty! have you opened one up? It uses high grade steel springs and pins etc. Its a well manufactured gun. It is less 'pretty' to look at, agreed.

I guess if you want to do it that way. But here's how we play without full auto weapons:

4 man tactical team, two people lay down suppressive fire long enough for the other two to flank. Then those two suppress the target while the first two move. It's quick, it's fast, and it's efficient.

Now with full autos, all the enemy needs to do is wait for the "braaaap" and then silence, since you're reloading. That gives them enough time to pop out and fire out a couple rounds. If you've got two people putting a dart at their head every 1-3 seconds, they don't know when you're out, and they don't have time to jump out, find you, and fire.

And Shortshit, you're right, the crossbow isn't the best gun for suppression. I wasn't refering to the crossbow, I was talking about spring vs pump guns in general. You need something you can load and cock fast.

Oh well if you have TWO people using one shot guns, then it makes sense. I was thinking 2-man groups where one had to support the other for a quick run to the next bunker or something.

But hey, it's all strategy and theory talk anyway, right? You find out what works on the battlefield!

Agreed. Different times and scenarios call for different strategies. I'm sure both of our strategies would work with the right conditions.

Oh, and what about those paintballs? Anyone check out that link and have any?

i like monkeys. put a dart in it's mouth, then slap it in the ass real hard. 200 ft MINIMUM!

talk about spankin yer monkey, yo.

anyone have any feelings about the supermaxx 1000? i have one i'm gonna try and do some stuff with, just curious what's been done.

nerf guns are an odd market. as katachi mentioned, i've sold crossbows for over $100 stock. same for vortex firestorms. it all depends on who the customer is. hell, i sold a 3 shot secret shot for $40!

anyway, i'll agree that my crossbow price is rather steep. mainly cause it took so damn long to make. i lost blood to that gun (and failed a class). i'll probably just hang onto it as a conversation piece that leaves welts. the game i made it for is sort of an assasin type of thing, both nerf and melee weapons. we had a lot of whiney people playing who would even yell "ouch" over a ten foot hit from a stock secret shot.

i'm lookin at the night site right now, and thinking it's got WAY too much stuff on it. if i end up messin with it, i'll post some pics.

yeah, i've been modding for a little while, but my designs tend to be a bit rough. i've seen some much prettier work on this forum. bottom line, it's the skill, not the time.

Sm1000 is a great gun, I had one, until I put it in my x-bow. However, never to fear, I can always get the second one from my friend. It's a great gun, but hard to modfiy and keep the same ROF.

Hey! I used a Monkey Spank gun! They don't call me Monkey Spankerelli for nothing!

Ompa, first: this had nothing to do with you, so why are you even commenting. Second: stop talking about me, third: I know he was just joking around, I don't usually say bite your forked tongue... I'm not that lyrical. If I was mad and taking it personally I wouldn't be nice... YOU WOULDn't LIKE ME WHEN I'M ANGRY and such... :(

Now lets stop talking about it, as we should have done until Ompa here stepped in. :P to you Ompa... :P to you!

Uh, I was joking like the rest of the people here... Anyways... Does anyone have any better ways to increase x-bow plunger efficiency besides masking tape? I've found that the head of a DT3 plunger fits well, but it increases the friction by way too much, even with lubrication... Has anyone else tried this before?

even with lubrication...

heh, In my own... personal.. studies, I've found that anything can work with enough lube... ;-) You should probably try using more lube... yeah...

edit: sorry I had to do it lol

ask Necrotech Inc. when he 's on next time, he knows more about the mechanics and engineering behind the airflow and seals :( Enough for the two of us to fabricate our own gaskets and o-rings.

i had a few ideas for that, but have only tried one.

i don't really recommend that anyone try this. it's benefits aren't really worth the risk. all i did was gently heat the seal and push back on the cup, widening it. it'll hold that shape once it's cool. being wider, it'll allow less air to escape while moving. this increases friction a little, but not that much.

i found that the spring out of an arrowstorm does more, anyway.

if you're gonna try to stretch the seal, use the minimum heat you can, and make sure not to mar the edges. that'll kill performance real fast. also, NEVER do this with a black rubber seal, only do it with the white ones. the black rubber will gradually dissintegrate and/or swell after being heated enough to stretch, especially if you try to oil it at all.

the last caution is that xbow seals seem to have been made out of a less durable material (maybe age, maybe weaker plastic). i've seen them crack in half or otherwise irreperably distort with very little stress.

i had thought about doubling up the seal, but that would require having a second donor gun. i'm hoping to design a seal that solves all these problems soon.

For shits a giggles, I took whoevers idea it was to mod a gun to shoot the 40mm(?) blowgun paintballs. Basically I just took the 8" section of one of my blow guns and wraped it in tape untill it fit snuggley into 1/2" PVC of my x-bow.

The results:

So powerfull most of the paintballs exploded. The ones that did work ( 5 out 15 ) went fairly strait and accurately to a wood target set up 80' away. They most probably could have went farther, they had alot of velocity left. A longer barrel would probably fix this.

For shits and giggles I put spear tipped blowgun hunting darts in.......
The dart went in one side of a cardboard box 1' in all dimensions set at 80' away, went THROUGH the box, out the back, and stuck into a wood fence another 60' away from the back of the box.

The squrrels in my back yard have a new enemy.

Dead serious. I also think my paintballs were a little old and slightly disfigured. The paintballs are kinda hard to get blown down the barrel before fireing. I would suggest breech loading. Id rather just use stefans though faster to load, not messy, cheaper. Its still fun to mess around with though.

Eh, I found .5 paintballs as well at my local Dunhams. Stale paintballs really mess things up, they burst alot easier. That's probably why they were bursting in yours. Looks kinda neat, I might have to try the hunting darts in mine <_< .

ahaha new idea new idea! lol when making DARTS, put in your regular weight, PLUS a MINI painball closer to the surface of the dart, so the FIRST time you use the dart it spllatters, and the second time its just normal! that'd be fun! lol
