I'm starting a project, modding a Magstrike and extending the clip so I can shoot a storm of darts. I will remove the pumped-air bladder in favor of a pressurized tank. I want to be able to use this blaster for humans vs. zombies missions and be able to use many of the modded 20 clips without refilling the tank. How long do different tanks usually last and work? Which should I use for this project? Are there any that are reasonably priced? How often do I need to be worried about refilling? I'd like to minimize the bulk and weight of the finished blaster as well, hopefully keeping it roughly the same size as the before-modded Magstrike. In the future, I'm also thinking about modding a Magstrike with a larger air tank and clips that could function as a machine gun, useful for holding positions against zeds. Let me know if you have any advice, especially for the first project.

I take it that you want to shoot off at least several magazines before having to pump up your tank. If this is the case, you are going to have to use an external hard tank that you will, most likely have to carry around on a backpack. Or you could also do it like this.

It really depends on the volume and pressure of the tank you're using.

Which (tank) should I use for this project?

That's really up to you. Figure out what the advantages and disadvantages of particular tanks are to your expected use for it.

Are there any (tanks) that are reasonably priced?

Absolutely. These work very well and are extremely inexpensive: they range from about eight to eleven dollars.

How often do I need to be worried about refilling?

Once again, that all depends on the tank that you use. The bigger and higher the pressure the tank is, the longer it will last before needing to be refilled.

I'd like to minimize the bulk and weight of the finished blaster as well, hopefully keeping it roughly the same size as the before-modded Magstrike.

These air tanks are very light weight, so I advise using one of these and just bolt it to your blaster like CaptainSlug did in the above photo.

As a piece of advice, the moderators don't really like threads like this where one asks about what one should do or which item one should buy, so I advise you to research this quite a bit more. Here are some threads that are packed with information that will be useful to you.

CaptainSlug's external air tank and twenty round magazine mod This is a rambling work-in-progress thread, so be sure to read all of the posts.

Magstrike Modded for external air supply

Magstrike air tank mod revised This is an update of the thread above this.

DIY: External Air Tank

Understanding Air Guns This does not pertain directly to your project, but it is definitely very useful reading for one who wishes to understand, design, or even modify air guns.

Where you playing? If you are playing on a college, contact administrators to see if HPA/CO2/compressors can be used on campus. I know some colleges will not allow it with no questions asked.

If you want something cheaper (and can use a compressor), I recommend this: Tire Compressored Magstrike
SGNerf made one too
I made one that ran off 2 9.6v 2000mAh RC batteries and it can burst fire until the end of time batteries run out.
