With the Panthers/Range Masters out everyone seems to be ignoring all of the other Buzz Bee products (or more likely they were already doing that)
Here is a new blaster that isn't actually bad when you compare it to the Nerf equivalent: the Maverick



As the darts fire, the clip comes out the top of the blaster


It holds 10 shots compared to the Maverick's 6
It come with a clip unlike the Maverick (but, like the Maverick the clip/modified clip is specific to this blaster)


the air restrictors in the clip are very easy to remove. It took not even 5 minutes to go through the back with a pin punch and punch them out.


It is a direct plunger blaster, primed by pulling the yellow stock shaped thing back


the actual plunger volume is considerably bigger than the maverick (using no maths or science at all I would guesstimate it to be about double)
the plunger rod actually has a 100% seal stock
note the foam on the front of the PT, it creates a moderately ok seal between the PT and the clip

ranges are similar to a Nitefinder (about 60 feet)

Yes, I was dry firing, I live on the 7th floor, and my darts are in my car.

So, in all, for $10 bucks, it is a much better alternative to the Maverick

The clip advance mechanism works similar to that of an RF20 or Magstrike
when the yellow part (I hesitate to call it a stock) gets pulled back, it also pulls back the white ramp shaped part you see in the left half of the shell (look at the internals pic). The four white dots in the black case on the right half of the shell are spring loaded and hold the clip wherever it is until you prime again. Finally if you look at the shot of the clip showing the removed ARs you can see the advancing tabs on the top side of it (I just realized that is the only one of these pictures that show them, sorry about that)

Nice maverick alternative. I must ask, how large is the handle. Buzz Bee has a tendency to make very small handles, and is it comfortable to hold in average size hands?

As I said, similar to a NF, I was unable to measure, so that is my rough guestimate it is definitely in the general vicinity though
the prime is actually slightly easier than the Maverick. I think that might have something to do with the fact that you can get a better grip on the priming handle.

I have one of these, and I really like it. There is an ar in the front of the plunger tube that just falls out if you poke it with a small screwdriver. Nice Mod!

How close is the size of the PT to a nite finders? It looks about the same size.

60ft. is oustanding! In addition to is fugly features, the only draw back I see is the moderately low rate of fire due to the priming mechanism being in the back of the gun. What sort of ROF are you able to pull off with this? I bet if you were to cur off the bottom of the "stock" and slap on a spare handle or grip, this blaster could really compete with almost any blaster currently on the market in both range as well as in ROF

I might pick one of these up soon if I feel like it.

That sounds really awkward. Also, it reminds me of Katy Perry.

Edit: Because I don't think what I have to add is worth posting again, I'll just add to this post. I have a Buzz Bee Jaguar, which I used to great effect in pickup HvZ today. Mechanically, it's very similar to the Cougar. The clip has six barrels and is vertical, not diagonal like the Cougar's, and it primes with a top slide similar to, but smaller than, that of a Firefly. Otherwise, it's pretty much just a smaller Cougar. I don't have a tape measure, and I suck at estimating distance, so I can't post ranges to compare. The Jaguar's handle is much better than most Buzz Bee handles, but it's just slightly too small for my hands, and it's shaped in such a way that I can't really hold it tightly with one hand unless I use my middle finger for the trigger and my index finger to stabilize. It works well with an approximate Weaver grip.

Overall, my experience with the Jaguar suggests the Cougar is pretty good. I still think the priming handle would be awkward to use even if it wasn't attached to my chest.

Short answer: yes

I think it is about half the size, similar diameter, half the length (give or take, again no maths were used to arrive at this measurement)

As far as pure ROF, I just tested it, I was able to load the clip and fire all 10 shots in 9 seconds (that is, of course, borderline spray and pray
I think ill just put a firing video in the writeup... give me twenty minutes or so

I think it definitely needs some sort of re-barreling, after I took out the ARs the darts are only held in for about a half inch. So, theoretically anything is better, only problem is you need to brass the clip, so you would need 20 inches of brass (2" per barrel)

I was going to look into PETG (but that's less because it might be the best choice, and more because I haven't done a PETG barrel yet)

I doubt that CPVC would fit in the stock barrels. Although one could cut the original barrels completely off, the clip advancing hardware would be hard to replicate. Brass is probably the best bet, as PETG is most likely too wide.

Actually, hamoidar is right, the barrels themselves are too close together for CPVC to fit

I got one of these at the Thrift Store down the road from me. No mags of course but I never got around to opening it yet. Now that I have some info (even though it's completely throwing the rapid fire function out the window) I might single mine. If it's getting 60's WITH mags then it should be a nice singled little secondary.

This is very similar to the Photon Burst Power Blaster (and Sawtooth, Electric Eel, etc), which had an 8-shot captured clip and fired 60-70 feet. And has been around for years.
