After I made the AT2KLR, I started thinking about doing a pump action nitefinder. After realizing how difficult
it would be to load it, I decided to put a breech on it, I then ditched the pump action idea, because it
was so difficult to seal the breach (it was made of cpvc). I just slapped a piece of 1/2 inch PVC
on top, and got this breech.



It was really hard to get a seal on this whole thing perfectly. Basically you open the door by pushing
down on the front of the barrel, until it opens like this;

You place a dart into the slot here;



You then close the breech so it looks like this;

You push the cover on the breech back so it becomes airtight, Then fire. It gets normal ranges for
a nitefinder (on the nitefinder, it gets misfires every 1/7 shots). But I tried it on my AT2KLR, and it worked like a mother flipping charm.
It was amazing. I call it The Evo Breech.

I like the idea, but it seems like a pain in the ass to make something not that practical and/or great looking. It also looks like it would eventually round the edge of the PVC from bending it so much, but I don't really work with PVC so I wouldn't know...

Nice idea! If you sanded down the edges and really tweaked the amount of e-tape this could be really efficient.
Off topic: Would you happen to be the kid at NJW 8.5 with the firefly?

Why yes, yes I was. The firefly was "accidentally" maliciously destroyed in an attempt (which worked by the way) to use the spring inside of a jolt. Thanks for the ideas though. I might consider them in the future.

My computer screwed up, so I apologize if this is a double post

Is there some sort of hinge in it? If not why not just pull it out and put it back on each time? or rotate it? doing that will be less damaging to the PVC barrel

(I really like the idea though, its like the Barrel Break)

No there is no hinge. And you are correct about the fact that it could mess with the
PVC. I guess that I could pull it on and off.

In my experience, PVC will only deform if it is under a lot of stress for a long time. His breech should be fine.

You would be just as well off simply front loading the barrel. The point of having a breech of this style is to position the dart as close to the power source of the blaster at the base of the barrel without having to use a ramrod. Your design does not do this.

This...isn't very practical. There's no hinge, so it would probably fall off the first time you tried to reload on the run, and (as Phree Agent said) you're losing power because of all that dead space. Just use a speedloader and you'll get an improvement in ROF and range.

As questionable as the posted breech is it certainly is an interesting design concept. If done properly you could have a cool looking "shot gun" type breech. In fact I am sure some of our more industrious builders on here could make the folding barrel action also prime the gun. Not nearly as fast as say a pump action, but it would certainly have a cool factor to it.
