In this guide, I will show you how to convert a stock sonic dart into a hopper compatible, accurate, Stefan. I put this in the modifications thread because the process involves modifying a Nerf product.
Administrators: if you think this would be better suited for the homemades thread, please move it. I also have to say I have no idea why some of the pictures are huge, while some are small. I resized all of them to 640 by 480. Oh well. :sigh:
Anyway, back to the guide. You will need…..

Materials:
Sonic Nerf darts
BB

Tools:
Tin-snips or scissors (I used tin-snips because I couldn’t find a pair of scissors)
Random tiny interchangeable-tip screwdriver
Something to cut on. Like a piece of wood.
Flat-head screwdriver and a blowtorch. You can also use a soldering iron.

First, cut the dart’s tip off.
Posted Image
Then, cut off the rest of the rubber.
Posted Image
You will now need the random tiny interchangeable-tip screwdriver. I have absolutely no idea where I got it.
Posted Image
Posted Image
Next take the BB and place it on the hole at the top of the dart.
Posted Image
Using the random tiny interchangeable-tip screwdriver, push the BB into the hole.
Posted Image
One of the nice things about the random tiny interchangeable–tip screwdriver is that it has a beveled tip, which keeps the BB from rolling out from under it.
Posted Image
Now, trim the rest of the tip, as pictured.
Posted Image
You do this so that the darts will not get stuck in a hopper.
Posted Image

It is now time for you to cut the dart to length.
Posted Image
I cut mine to 1.5”. But you can make them as long as you want. Heck, You can even leave it the stock length! (the darts will still feed!)
Posted Image

I melted the hole closed so that the BB won’t pop out and kill someone.
Posted Image
And with that last bit of fantastic advice, I have concluded my dart making guide.

The darts run through hoppers great, as I have had no misfires.
Posted Image
They get about 75-85 feet flat; with my overhauled Element, and a six dart hopper.

Note: I still can’t get my darts to feed properly, does anyone know what they like to eat? : )

I hadn't thought of this method; I just pulled the top off mine, cut them into thirds, and hot-glued a BB into them. Nice idea though. It isn't good that you only get 1 Stefan per dart however.

If you were to cut the dart slightly shorter, you could use the extra foam for a second dart.

Nice man. One thing I've found is that if you add a straw to a streamline it expands the outer diameter of the dart enough that it has a perfect airgun fit in petg. and yes you can get 2 stefans per streamline. Making these in bulk is not cost effective cause stock darts are so expensive, but if you have a bunch laying around I don't see any reason not to make a whole bunch of war ready stefans out of them.

Edit: your darts probably aren't feeding properly cause they're a little too long?

I was just making a joke there at the end. :) The darts really do feed great. Maybe I'll make a demo vid.

Wow, this is very simple, yet it looks like it will work great. I'll have to do this to the darts I'll be using in a deodorant clip hopper.

I meant how you used the leftover rubber head for the tip.

Awesome! Incidentally, are you looking forward to this new AirTech line people keep talking about? It's going to be like the SuperMaxxes but BETTER!

Jesus, Beaver. Get your shit together. Do I really have to do this?

I never understood the fascination with modifying stock darts, and even for a modded stock dart, this seems like a time consuming process for very little payoff. Not to mention that by using a black dart, the one possible advantage of using a stock dart is lost.

Oh, and you gave your dart a clenched asshole. With a soldering iron. That makes you the worst kind of butt-toucher.

^That just made my night.

I never understood the appeal either. Buy FBR, cut blanks and add weight(s)/padding. There's no need to make it more complicated than that.

I have been making the conversion to homemades recently, so I thought I should do something useful with the large amount of stock darts I have. Think of it as recycling! It's not like I would buy stock darts to cut up. This is just a useful method for cutting down all of those dart piles in your closet.

a good alternative to your "random tiny interchangabletip screwdriver would be a small punch for leather or whatnot.
I know not everybody is going to have one, but I suspect they may be more common.

Why not just make homemades that shoot stock darts? Or trade some stock darts for FBR. A stock dart costs roughly $0.25, whereas a black/grey foam from Ace costs about $0.25 per foot, which depending on how long you make your darts, is $.02-$.07. And that's with a $5 investment, there are certainly better deals if you're willing to spend more money.

Last time I checked, it is just about impossible to get sonic micros to feed through any type of hopper. Belive me, I have tried. I did see a while ago where you made a hopper that could feed velcro darts, but velcros don't get stuck in PVC like sonic darts.
