Greetings everyone, I would like to begin my own homemade project soon, maybe within a few days, but for now I've been working on concept designs and believe I've fallen on one I like. I will not be attempting anything too fancy as I'm not that familiar with custom building parts and guns, and as such this will be an air powered gun, possibly by a bike pump, and definatly a single shot unless between now and than I can figure out more (maybe use a coupler for the beginning of the barrel in case I want to add on). I originally wanted a bullpup design but decided against it, so the shape and look will be similar but front loaded instead. I've finished a first concept of the build and would love to hear everyones ideas and opinions on it and how to go about making it work and if there is anything I could do better. Here is the design I have thus far:

Again, all ideas are welcome, I have a general idea what I want thus far and can change this design to meet the end goal (but not too much :P)

Thank you.

The Haven generally isn't wild about concept/planning threads, and is more about works-in-progress.

What you're describing is a pretty basic ball-valve homemade. You have a plan, you have an idea of what you're going for...go and build it and report back. If you have problems, post your progress with a question. I'd recommend looking through the air-powered designs in the Homemade Directory, as those will give you a good idea of what's been done, and how to approach your own problems.

Thank you for the input, ill keep that in mind for future projects. For now i do have some images to share of my current progress:

This is the the gun as is, its just the lower part including the air tank (larger 4-way connector) and to the front is where the air will pump in:

Currently until i can cut more pipe im letting the glue set. Here is whats done so far, also shown is the glue used, the ball valve, and the pipe that goes into a T section is going into the last open spot of the air tank, that is where the air will be going to the barrel.

Last for today will be what im considering for an air pump. I know how i want to fit it in but need to wait and see till tomorrow

As you already may know that is off a nerf hornet.

You'll most likely notice that a ball-valve isn't the most effective trigger.

This is a great homemade that isn't much more complex than what you're attempting to design.

Thank you for that info Durka, I'll look into other types of triggers, I looked on here too late as I've already placed it in a location i wanted it, but it can be sawed off easily as it poses no issue with the rest of the gun. my main thing now is dremmeling a bit off the tip of the hornet pump to make it the same width as the rest of the pump. the end where the air is pushed into the gun is a tad bit wider compared to what I need, but if I dremel it down enough it should fit correctly, I wont glue it in yet as I'd like to get some tests for air flow and see if it pumps well enough, and if the gun holds air well enough (and releases it the way I want). I'm also considering a bike pump once I find one around here (thought I had a spare one around here someplace o.O). Either way, for now enjoy some images of the current progress of the gun:

To be honest, I held it, shouldered it, and held the ball valve in the open and close position and tested its opening/closing, and I was rather comfortable with how it feels and operates, now to get it fully functional ;). The gun is a single shot for now, and it has space on the end for a coupler to be fitted onto it for other pipe sections to be added, thats where I'd love suggestions especially, as well as if I took it to the drawing board again (once I get this one firing) for a rebuild should I decide to step it up a notch in what it can do.

I'd venture that you're going to want something with more output than a Hornet pump....it'll take a while to pressurize all that pipe otherwise.

I tried the hornet pump after sanding down the end to make it sit a bit better, but still got no results. I'm currently looking into air pumps and fell on this:

http://www.amazon.co...28149406&sr=1-6

although I am somewhat hesitant on this option it does seem useful (if not i need a new air pump anyhow...). I am up for suggestions and reccomendations, as I'm seriously considering the air pump and just rigging it to my gun. aside from that my other option was:
http://www.amazon.co...8149650&sr=1-50
or
http://www.amazon.co...28149594&sr=1-3

those were laughable at best to me but hey, battery powered (and cheap) air pump? all I'd need is a pressure gauge and to cautiously test it. they are just ideas at a glance, to get a thought for what I would also be willing to attempt. but I think a hand pump would be better yet.

I wouldn't use either of the fish pumps. I do not think they are capable of producing very much pressure. Dual action pumps are nice, but require a little bit more effort due to both motions compressing air.

I was thinking the same, especially since its a good price. Now to see where I want it, depending on its size in person it may make a difference on how I mount it...I did also consider a homemade one but at this price and I can get it by fri/sat. I may just get the dual action one. As it goes, I felt it was better to ask first, and besides, if it fails, I can still go to Ace Hardware...

Throw a full-sized bike pump on it, and use one end as a stock so that you can prime it through it's full motion. No other hand-powered solution will give you as much volume and compression on each stroke. Otherwise, hook a compressor up to it - it's already illegal as shit for war use, so you might as well go for broke.

Well I suppose I could do that, have it latched to the gun, use it as a stock and than use its hose that normal bike pumps use and attach it to the hole on the guns front so I dont have to make any unneeded cuts/holes. Ill consider this idea too vs the double action pump, if I got that it'd be mounted to the front of the gun under the barrel and probly epoxied ot something to it with possibly a tube between them if theres not enough space. I like the stock and pump idea, but (go figure) I like the foreward pump action/grip.

I can't tell for sure because the picture is a little washed out in that area, but did you cut off the check valve part of the hornet pump? That would explain why it doesn't work.

Well I found a nice bike pump with a pressure gauge. Working on making it fit/connect.

Also, I used some electric tape to make a pipe fit into a larger pipe so I coul make a barrel attachment. The wide end is the end of the barrel.
