first start with your stock supermaxx 5000
Posted Image

next open it up and gut the internals
once you have the internals out hot glue the spring on the firing pin and plug the pump
Posted Image

next get a 1/2 inch PVC coupler and put a small piece of sch 40 PVC in one side to give the coupler a better seal with the tank
Posted Image
Posted Image

next dremel the front part of the shell so the coupler will fit
Posted Image
Posted Image

finally screw your gun back together

Nice job, but this isn't really anything new.
However for the write up, it is clear and concise and straight to the point. Those qualities are very important to a write up and you executed nicely.
Not to say it is a bad modification, but had you done something more original this would be much better. Keep up the good work though!

How the hell did you get an sm5k in that good condition? It even has stock larami darts! If you unboxed a NIB one, I think I'm gonna cry

Isn't the whole point of this website to modify nerf blasters? Not just collecting them and keeping them in boxes?

Yes, but if he wanted to modify one, he could have simply sold the NIB one, and bought one out of the box.

@Thespnakerlives
Good job. Very simple and easy to do. You should definitely go further with this.

You should check out DanB's "thesis" on trigger mods.

I will always say this: get some other glue on that coupler. A good twist will rip that thing right off, because hotglue isn't a serious glue.

The words of arrogant youth.

When you get a little older you'll learn to appreciate and respect certain things that you take for granted now. You'll look back and say, "Man, was I young and dumb."

As far as modding a coveted and extremely rare blaster in excellent condition, much more respect would be given if it were modded by a more seasoned modder. You could be assured that it wouldn't have been just a simple singled coupler mod (if at all).

Many modders here, including myself, just cringed at the sight of this. Not so much that it was modded but that it wasn't taken further. Go for broke as they say. Go big or go home.

At least it can be easily reversed. (Damage done, though)

Treat it well spanker. I don't know how you got one but I hope you know you were VERY lucky! Don't take that for granted.

I'll be interested to see what you do with this once you become more seasoned and experienced.

I agree with the general response. The mod would have been much better if you had gone FARTHER. Especially with that rare of a blaster. Not saying it was bad though. In fact the write-up was quite good. Explanitive while still simple. I look

forward to seeing what you do with that blaster in the future.

On a side note: Nice soundtrack on the video ^_^

Sincerely, Lancer

YOU JUST HAD TO DO THIS ON A SM5K
WHY.... JUST WHY

On another note, if this your first writeup, I suggest either putting something new or unique.

Sorry, but I don't really think you have the right to call me arrogant and dumb, even if I am 16. That is pretty rude. You don't know me in real life.

It is just my opinion. 5ks are coveted by the community, but that is subjective. Just because there is an opinion (notice I said opinion, not scientifically proven fact) held by most of the community doesn't mean that all individuals MUST share that opinion. If he wants to open his 5k and do those mods to it, he is more than entitled to. Of course it would be cooler to see more original "cooler" mods done to it, but that would be said for any Nerf blaster this type of thing had been done to.

Instead of ripping on this guy for modding a Nerf gun (gee, on NerfHAVEN? A haven for Nerf mods?) be more constructive and HELP him figure out what more extensive mods to do, instead of just saying "You ruined a child's toy, do something else to it" try "there are more extensive things you could do to it like *this*, *this* and *that.* Good luck."

We are playing around with kids' toys. Must we really take ourselves SO seriously?

Anyway, almost no war host anywhere will let you use it with a plugged pump

Spanker, Look up FlaminCows. He's a Sex Dwarf, and has the balls to compete against a plugged 5k, and recently moved to New Orleans. I know he doesn't have a lot of time to nerf right now, but I know he really is itching to play. All you have to do is play responsibly.

On topic, good start. Definitely try and take this further. They're good blasters if they fit your style.

Nerf is serious business, where's your full spectrum scope and ghillie suit?

This mod is a good start though one day you'll probably look at it and think you'll want more out of it. The SM5K/SSSM5K is just about as powerful as you'd want a blaster to be (and can put out more than anyone would want when you push it to it's limits). I found putting a hopper on mine worked fairly well. Most people still stick with the brass breech but it comes down to personal preference; whatever works for you, works.

I don't remember who started this thread, but I'm going to give them credit for making this dude super mad. I love you, original poster.

As I've previously stated, MakeItGo (or maybe it was Curly? I don't remember) is the master of missing all points, forever. That is why he is getting mad over a modification of a Nerf gun on a Nerf modifications forum.

Unfortunately Shreveport is in the other corner of the state. Although I'd make the trip for a decent war. Might even be able to round up a few guests.

And in the interest of staying on topic, Nerf guns are more fun modified. I've destroyed my fair share of valuable blasters, but this blaster hasn't been harmed in the slightest. I think the OP just wanted to break into the community with a write up and show off his excellent condition 5k at the same time.

But seriously dude, unplug the pump. I have no qualms getting shot by a 150' shooter, but some kid could pick that thing up at a war when you aren't looking and pop the tank or break the trigger. And frankly they hit great ranges without a plugged pump.

Some of us would like him (and you) to understand the ramifications of taking something that might have sold for over $80, and turning it into something that could have been obtained for maybe $35, and now doesn't have a resale value to speak of.

That may be so, but it isn't like he did something like saw the thing and half and made it unusable. As already stated, most of the things he did are reversible to some extent. And frankly what he did to it already isn't so bad. He sent me a PM asking for suggestions and we already went over the whole replacing hot glue with epoxy and/or superglue. So other than that it isn't like he did anything wrong. All there is left to do is improve it. But I don't think really anyone has suggested anything other than unplugging the pump.

Spanker, I can make a few suggestions as to ways of "taking it further."
If you could somehow relocate the tank further back, you could either minimize the shell (probably with much hate from some people) or you could have space to have a hopper inside the shell if you cut a hole for the clip.

If that doesn't seem your style, you could integrate another airgun into all that empty space in the shell between the tank and the trigger. Probably something backpressure, with the tank coming out the side and the blast button somewhere else. Or possibly an SSPB or a Jolt.

If you felt like it you could also build parts of a raider or recon stock into the back to make it more "comfy."

If you don't feel like the pump fills up the tank fast enough (although it looks fine to me) you could try a pump replacement.

Good luck.

You did a good job. It would be wise to do a bit more research into other's findings on NerfHaven and elsewhere. The mod directory doesn't always have everything either.

Don't feel pressured to mod things to please others. Besides, in it's current state the involuntary convulsions of others will make them easier to hit ;)

This thread is the worst. The only thing to get outraged over is that this forum is apparently populated with....::shudder:: toy collectors. The OP put a coupler on a 5k and did some other shit to it. Now he can possibly use it at a nerf war. The coupler is on the end where he could probably attach a hopper, and the trigger has fewer points of failure (do those things even work with a plugged pump as is? That little spring probably can't even crack the seal). It's his gun, and he can do whatever he wants with it. I just hope he didn't spend the ridiculous over-inflated prices that the fucking collectors are asking for, when he could've gotten himself a 4B or something.

No one here has the right to give anyone shit about the quality of their mods on the basis that the blaster they're working on is too 'valuable'. The purpose of this site is to provide an online discussion forum for people who nerf, and attend nerf wars. It is not here for traders, collectors, buyers or sellers. The next person who gives anyone a hard time about this sort of thing is getting a few weeks off, no warning.

Oh, and welcome back Bob. The next time you feel the need to correct someone, or give someone a lecture, I will resume fucking with you for my own amusement.

...I like the OP, though. A very clean guide with pictures, and this tank configuration actually allows you to mount a hopper without cutting up the blaster. I find it odd that such a ruckus was raised about this particular modification. It is very non-invasive by SM5000 standards.
