A standard mobstable, I guess. PM me with questions on construction.

Alright, right now I'm in between Ovid and Fleming. Fleming is about a mile from the Grosvenor Metro station (which probably won't be very good for walkers, but for bikers, won't be too much). Does anyone know how crowded Fleming usually is? Based off the pics on the MoCo Dept. of Parks site for Fleming, there are some trees, so cover might be better than Ovid, but we'd still need some mobstacles.

It all depends on what is convenient/preferred by everyone else....thoughts?

Disclaimer: I am not attending THIS particular DCNF, so do what you want with my input.

That being said, I think a location can make or break a good war. I have been to wars at great places and at pretty shanty places. Overall, I think a good rule is to have AS MUCH cover as possible. To me, this creates a much better war than a large field situation does. As for mobstacles, they are really nice but if you really think about how much cover they actually add, I do not think they are worth making considering their cost/maintenance.

Alright, idea in the subject of mobstacles:
Instead of using expensive PVC brackets, we can stack (free) large Priority Mail cardboard shipping boxes(tape/glue them as well), and put rocks inside of the to prevent being blown away by the wind, and put some tarp/something hard outside of them to prevent being penetrated by stefans. Thoughts?

Trees are free and you don't have to carry them. Also the more time you spend fussing over mobstacles, the less time you have to actually get out there and nerf.

I can't make it out to Clarksburg. It's just too damn far.

I agree with this, and would also be up for Chaos' free stacked box idea.

Me, and my 1 are definitely unable to make if at Clarksburg, and i'm sure Christian would be too. Including Dizzyduck that's atleast -4 players if at clarksburg, which considering the size of how it is now, take quite a chunk of the fun from those who can make it. How about just whichever of those 2 locations is more doable by the group is what we do ?

Alright, so right now the location is between Fleming and Ovid. What works best for everyone?
If we do decide to go with Fleming, I have to check it out first to see how crowded it usually is.
The only pros/advantages of Fleming I see are that it is more accessible, and that it PROBABLY has more cover than Ovid, although we could easily creat cover at Ovid with mobstacles.

Flemming does seem to have more cover with trees.
Depending on the amount of people that are there on the weekend, if it is low, I think we should have it there.
But that is just my 2 cents.

Fleming is a better option for me but to be honest, I don't really see much need for cover with the ranges of most of our weapons. It's a nice extra but it's not really necessary when dodging is an effective tactic in and of itself.

First post still says Clarksburg, please update or verify.

Also I'm back to "definite" assuming the war is at Fleming, and a "no" if the war is in Clarksburg.

Alright, location is still Ovid for now, and I will check out Fleming ASAP. If it's big enough, the features are good, and it's not crowded, I will change location to Fleming, as the location seems to work for most people.

I'm the same as Dizzy and pretty sure Christian and my other friend are.

Fleming Definite yes, Ovid: definite no.

A bit of an update. I will try to check out Fleming tomorrow. If I can't make it, can anyone else in the area check it out?

I probably won't be able to come and would appreciate it if you change the date. Also, I would much prefer the war is held at Fleming.

No date changes, please. It wouldn't be fair to those of us who have had our schedules set around the war happening on the 17th.

I'm not really, but I'll try and ask Christian to.

I know this might be a little short notice, but I found a park, near Friendship Heights . I would have to check it out more but it looks nice (trees, not a lot of people, benches).
Like I said I will try to check it out some more tomorrow.
On google maps, type "River Road an Western Ave" then go to "street view" under "more" and twist the frame a little and there you got it.

Fort Bayard park ?

Near bus routes, and still in Montgomery county.

Fort Bayard is in DC.

I'd recommend avoiding hosting a war in the District itself; DC cops can be really anal when it comes to Nerf with the handgun ban and everything.
